Tripoli Business Hub: Libya's first municipality‑led business hub opened
Inspired by the Ministry of Local Government and spearheaded by the Municipality of Tripoli Centre, with support from the European Union, the Government of Italy, and UNDP, the Tripoli Business Hub will provide start‑ups and small businesses with the resources to grow, create jobs, and contribute to Libya's economic recovery, the UNDP explained.
The Supreme Council of Local Administration, Mr Nasr Al-Mahtout, emphasised the broader economic vision: 'By supporting local entrepreneurship, we are helping municipalities lead the way in job creation and economic diversification. The Tripoli Business Hub is a crucial step forward.'
'This hub is a space where Tripoli's youth creativity and ambition can flourish,' said Ibrahim Alkhalify, Mayor of Tripoli Centre. 'By nurturing new businesses, we are investing in our city's future and creating opportunities for our community.'
The Hub will offer co‑working spaces, mentorship, networking opportunities, and tailored training programmes in entrepreneurship and start‑up development, including digital skills. It will prioritise youth, women, and returnees—providing them with the tools and networks to launch sustainable businesses and contribute to a more diverse and resilient local economy.
The European Union's Head of Cooperation, Dr Marton Benedek, described the Hub as a symbol of local innovation: 'This is a space where ideas become opportunities. By supporting local leadership, we give Libya's youth the chance to shape their own future.'
Mr Matteo Levolella, First Secretary of the Italian Embassy, emphasised the shared commitment to local development: 'Investing in young entrepreneurs is investing in Libya's stability. Italy is proud to partner in initiatives that generate jobs and foster economic resilience at the local level.'
'Entrepreneurship creates opportunity and hope,' said Mr Mohammed Salih, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative. 'Through this Hub, we are helping Tripoli Municipality transform local ideas into businesses that drive recovery and stability. Supporting the private sector is key to economic diversification, and this Tripoli Business Hub is one significant step towards that goal.'
Designed by three female engineers from the municipality in close collaboration with UNDP engineers, the Hub reflects a spirit of local ownership and inclusive development. It is part of UNDP's efforts—generously funded by the EU and Italy—to strengthen local capacity, promote economic growth, and enhance community resilience through improved governance.

New CBL Tripoli HQ construction project inaugurated – 11 years after it was announced
Over 11 years after the project was first announced, Naji Issa, Governor of the Central Bank of Libya (CBL), inaugurated the CBL's construction project for its new headquarters in the Gurji area of Tripoli last Monday (11 August), in the presence of several CBL department heads and notaries. In its information and marketing video for the project, the CBL says this comes as a step to bring the CBL's departments together in one integrated independent facility like the rest of the central banks of the world. It said this will end an era in which the employees of the various departments suffered due to their scattered presence in several different areas in the city of Tripoli. The CBL says design of the new building is inspired by the ancient cave homes dug into the Western/Nesfusa Mountains. It is designed according to the latest approved engineering standards to be the first building of its kind in Libya to obtain the golden accreditation for environmentally friendly buildings. Its modern systems, it adds, consider the digital transformation strategy, making the project a symbol of the independence of the CBL, as an independent sovereign institution. Specifically, the new 50,000-square-metre headquarters will occupy an area over 5 hectares with a car park with a capacity of 1,100. It will be able to house the 1,000 employees of the CBL's 30 departments, its training centre, a library and a clinic. Danish architects Henning Larsen win design competition It will be recalled that in April 2014, and as reported then by Libya Herald, it was announced that the design of Danish architects, Henning Larsen, won the competition for the build of the new CBL headquarters. Henning Larsen beat off competition from 22 other international and local designers to win the contract. The project will bring together CBL offices that have been scattered around the capital, since the bank's iconic headquarters building on the coastal side of the Medina (Old City), has long been unable to house all departments. Although no cost has been revealed, it may be indicative to know that a plan published in 2008 to build a new Italian-designed CBL bank HQ on the-then Green, now Martyrs' Square, was costed then at €98 million. Henning Larsen, in announcing their success, have emphasised the environmental and low-energy credentials of their design which involves offices built around a slightly angled atrium. The architects explained: 'By using and re-interpreting specifics of the Libyan nature and culture the new headquarters of the Central Bank of Libya will be a symbol of the new Libya, both for the local as well as the global community. 'We believe that the Central Bank of Libya must project an image of authority, solidity and security. At the same time, the Central Bank of Libya plays a crucial role in Libya's economic growth, and as such, it should project a forward thinking, dynamic attitude, that grasps opportunities.'

An application to transform the former Little People Store on Heol y Deri, Rhiwbina, is yet to be decided by Cardiff Council and is currently in the consultation phase. However, the applicant's vision for the restaurant has been published on the council's website. Shedding light on the restaurant, Mr Thomas added: 'I myself will be making use of my eight and half years of experience in Tuscany to cook real authentic Italian recipes using some produce imported directly from Italy and also using the fantastic local producers South Wales has to offer. 'My idea is to use the very same ingredients we use in the restaurant and actually make them available to buy from the on-site deli. 'For example if a customer really enjoyed the cheese or the wine they had that night, they can then also purchase the same produce at the deli to take away with them after their meal.' Man United outcast Jadon Sancho is running out of time to seal a move away from Old Trafford amid interest from Roma and Besiktas but one issue is putting a transfer in risk Jadon Sancho's huge pay packet is putting a Manchester United escape in danger. The winger has little future at Old Trafford after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim. He was expected to complete a £25m move to Chelsea following his loan spell last season but the Blues backed out of that agreement. Italian giants Roma had emerged as suitors over recent days. As per reports in Italy, the Serie A side have agreed a €23million (£19.8m) deal for Sancho and while United are happy with that fee, Sancho's own demands are holding up a deal, as per Mail Online. The former Borussia Dortmund man banks around £250k per week at Old Trafford, which sees him earn around £13m per year. Roma are not willing to pay that amount, hence the reason for the hold up. They have been attempting to convince Sancho to sign a five-year deal at the Stadio Olimpico to spread out that amount, but he is yet to agree to those terms at the time of writing. Speaking out recently, Roma boss Gian Piero Gasperini has urged more additions but admitted that the club are limited by financial constraints. He said: 'This is a team that has quality and we must try to improve it along with the club. There is great clarity with the club and we share ideas on what needs to be done. 'We'll see what happens over the next two weeks. Koné is undoubtedly a very good player, it would be a loss. We must see what we can do from now to the end of the transfer session, because everyone knows the Financial Fair Play situation.' He added: 'We've not had anything new coming in for three weeks now. If possible, we should get some new players without losing them. 'I have been very clear with the club on what needs to be done. Now we just hope that we can do it.' Away from Roma, Besiktas have also been linked with a swoop for Sancho. And club president Serdal Adali has admitted that he is keen to get a deal done before next month's deadline. 'Just as much as the community wants him, I want him too,' he told Turkiye Today. 'What matters is not only our desire, but also if the player wants to come to Turkey. We have a budget, and we will do our best to bring him here. 'Players like Jadon Sancho usually prefer clubs playing in the Champions League. Whether it happens today or not, it is hard to say. If it is possible, we will get him. Besiktas fans can rest assured.'
