Brit rock band loses two members after they suddenly quit the group

Metro08-05-2025

A British punk rock band has announced two of its members are stepping down.
Formed in 2013 in Hastings, Kid Kapichi began when Jack Wilson and Ben Beetham began writing music together.
They were soon joined by their schoolmates Eddie Lewis and George MacDonald.
Their first major release – the self-titled EP Kid Kapichi – dropped in 2017.
In the years since they've released two more EPs, with their debut album This Time Next Year coming in 2021.
That was followed by Here's What You Could Have Won in 2022 and There Goes the Neighborhood last year.
The band have also performed at the Reading and Leeds Festivals and have supported Nothing but Thieves and Liam Gallagher.
However, this week they announced guitarist Ben and drummer George were leaving the band.
In a statement posted to Instagram, they shared: 'After dedicating the last decade of their lives to Kid Kapichi, Ben and George have taken the difficult decision to step down from the band.
'We've experienced all the highs and lows of being in this project together, and nothing can take away from all the victories we've shared. But the time felt right for them to go on and explore pastures new. We wholeheartedly wish them the best and our friendship will remain strong going into this new chapter.
'However, this is far from the end. Jack and Eddie enter into a new phase of Kapichi with fresh energy, ideas and attitude. More on this coming soon.'
Ben and George went on to share their own message to fans.
'It's with a heavy heart that we make an announcement of parting ways from Kapichi: a band, a family, a brotherhood which has been at the centre of our lives for the last 12 years,' they began. https://www.instagram.com/p/DJWLoGCNq3F/?hl=en
'The truth is if you treat a band with the energy and focus it requires it doesn't leave much room for other things; and that means when you venture into fresh ground and give your all to something new, you owe it to the project to let it carry on without you rather than dilute yourself and give it less than it deserves.
'The 4 of us have shared this band for a long time, but beyond that we share a friendship, a history, a community and so much more that carries on even though our time in the band is ending.'
They went on to explain how it now felt 'like a perfect end to this arc that we can share one more musical exploration together and celebrate once more in the place it all started'.
The band then announced one last show with original line-up, which will be held at the De La Warr Pavillion at Bexhill-On-Sea on July 12.
Wrapping up their message, the two leaving the band added: 'Thanks from the bottom of our hearts to every fan, friend and family member who has supported us throughout this journey. It's been the wildest of rides. And thanks to Jack and Eddie for accepting this decision with open arms.'
The band were quickly flooded with messages of support from fans.
'I can't lie, I'm gutted to hear that Ben and George will be leaving, but I'm super excited to see what the future holds for all of you! Best of luck lads,' Lottie commented.
'Endings and new beginnings, the fruitful cycle of life. Love you boys, a very special crew. Best of luck in all the new ventures,' Gareth shared. More Trending
'Ahhh no, you guys were one of the first bands we ever went to watch and were amazing, good luck all of you with the future,' The Entitled Sons added.
When sharing the post, remaining members Jack and Eddie said this was 'not the end' for the band.
'We welcome this new era with arms akimbo as we move forward into these new and exciting times with a renewed sense of enthusiasm and passion' they explained.

‘People don't know this' – Michael Owen breaks silence on ‘well done he's 13' meme 26 years on from humiliating teenager

IT IS probably the cringiest moment from Michael Owen's long list. But now he has broken his silence on the infamous "well done, he's 13" gag from Neville Southall. 6 6 Owen featured in a Michael Owen Soccer Skills video in 1999 where he faced a young goalkeeper at an empty Stoke City stadium. The former England striker did his best to humiliate the 13-year-old Jamie Hutchinson, who was given goalkeeping tips from Southall. To his credit, Hutchinson did make some saves. But the video is remembered for Owen chipping, rounding and firing past the helpless child between the sticks - before shamelessly celebrating each finish. The laughing ex-Liverpool man clenched his fists, ran away with his arms aloft, mocked the goalkeeper for nutmegging him and pointed to his name on the back of his shirt. But it was his embarrassing shout of "get in there - game, set and match, Owen" that triggered Southall's brilliant quip. Southall said: "Well done, he's 13," a comment which remains a viral sensation and etched into British football heritage. But now, 26 years on, Owen has opened up on the clip - and revealed not all was quite as it seemed because he was told to play up for the cameras. He told talkSPORT: "I was only a couple of years older than him myself!. It's probably funny now. 'I got back from the World Cup in 98 and there were loads of commercial opportunities, things like that. Virgil van Dijk 'destroys' Michael Owen with brutal 13-word put-down on live TV after Liverpool beat Everton 'I was asked to do a soccer skills video and a soccer skills book. So I had to explain, talk through finishing, volleying, heading, whatever the skill was. Inevitably, you need a goalkeeper there. 'I never picked them and so I turned up to do the show and to talk through how I see scoring a goal and what I think in certain scenarios and whatever. 'There was a kid in goal that I had to score past and when I scored they're like, 'Come on, no, you need to show a bit more animation. Like celebrate when you score, this is going on a video.'" talkSPORT host Andy Goldstein clarified: "So people don't know this, right?" And Owen continued: "People just laugh at you no matter what. Then they take a little extract of anything. 'There's loads of things like that on the internet on me.' 'NOT EXACTLY IDEAL' Hutchinson spoke about the viral video in 2016 and admitted he knew it would not come out too well for him. He said: 'Being the goalkeeper on a programme headlined by a striker wasn't exactly ideal for me. 'It was made clear that it wouldn't make good filming if the goalkeeper was saving all the shots taken by the other kids after they had been coached by Michael.' And even Southall himself did defend Owen's actions earlier this year. The 92-cap Wales goalkeeper - who reunited with Hutchinson a few years ago - added: "I think he was being ironic to be fair, but I think he was enjoying himself and being ironic. 'But the poor kid, he scored a squillion goals past him and I was thinking 'give him a break'. 'On the day, Michael was okay and he's always okay. 'People judge him on that and that's not him." 6 6 6

Dawn French apologises after being accused of underplaying October 7 attacks

British comedian and actress Dawn French has issued a public apology after a social media video she posted about the conflict in Gaza and Israel drew widespread criticism. The 67-year-old Vicar of Dibley star shared the video on X (formerly Twitter), using a baby-like voice to deliver a satirical monologue critiquing what she described as the justifications used by those supporting Israel's continued military campaign in Gaza. 'Complicated, no, but nuanced. But [the] bottom line is no,' she says in the video, before launching into a series of exaggerated, childlike impressions mimicking pro-Israel arguments. 'Yeah, but you know they did a bad thing to us… and we want that land… and we have history… Those people aren't really even people, are they?' Each segment is followed by French returning to her natural voice to declare: 'No.' The video, which has since been deleted, quickly amassed over 4.7million views and sparked a fierce backlash among some. Critics accused French of trivialising the October 7 Hamas attacks, in which over 1,200 Israelis were killed and hundreds taken hostage. Some viewers said her tone appeared to mock victims rather than leaders. In response to the outcry, French posted a lengthy apology on Instagram on Saturday, acknowledging that her attempt at satire had fallen short of the mark. 'I clumsily used a mocking tone,' she wrote. 'My intention was NEVER to mock, or dismiss, or diminish the horror of what happened on 7 October 2023 and what continues to unfold from that brutal, unthinkable, unforgivable savage [attack].' French said her real aim had been to 'mock and point the finger of shame at the behaviour of the cruel leaders on ALL sides of this attricious [sic] war,' but admitted that her message had come across as one-sided. 'I'm particularly sorry that my disgust at Hamas didn't figure. It appeared one-sided and that is wrong,' she said. She added that she had been motivated by a growing sense of helplessness and a desire to speak out against the escalating humanitarian crisis, particularly the suffering of children in Gaza. More Trending 'The images of starving and wounded children have haunted me day and night,' she wrote. 'History has taught us never to stand by and allow this kind of inhumane violence to be wrought on anyone, especially innocent children.' 'I hope you will understand my intention was not to offend, but clearly I have. For which I am sorry and I have removed the video.' French's apology has prompted mixed responses online, with some praising her for addressing the issue directly and others continuing to criticise the original post.
