GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Treysen Eaglestaff scored 27 points and Eli King blocked a final shot in the paint to help North Dakota defeat North Dakota State 79-77 on Saturday.
Eaglestaff went 11 of 16 from the field (5 for 6 from 3-point range) for the Fightin' Hawks (11-18, 5-9 Summit League). Deng Mayar added 13 points while going 4 of 6 and 4 of 5 from the free-throw line while he also had seven rebounds. Mambourou Mara had 11 points and went 5 of 7 from the field.
Jacari White led the Bison (20-10, 9-6) in scoring, finishing with 26 points. Jacksen Moni added 14 points, six rebounds and four assists for North Dakota State. Masen Miller also put up 14 points and two steals.

Shohei Ohtani gets 1,000th career hit with go-ahead home run
LOS ANGELES -- LOS ANGELES (AP) — Shohei Ohtani hit a go-ahead, two-run homer for his 1,000th career hit and struck out a season-high eight over four innings Wednesday in the longest mound outing yet this season for the Los Angeles Dodgers' two-way superstar. The right-hander made his eighth mound start of the season after not pitching in 2024 while recovering from elbow surgery. He closed his outing against the St. Louis Cardinals by striking out the side in the fourth and walked off wiping his face on a 90-degree (32 Celsius) day. Masyn Winn tossed his bat in frustration after going down swinging. Ohtani threw 54 pitches, 37 for strikes, and gave up one run and two hits. Ohtani's 39th homer traveled 440 feet to center and scored Alex Call, who doubled leading off in the third, to give the Dodgers a 2-1 lead. In the first, Ohtani swung at the first pitch and reached when first baseman Alec Burleson booted the ball for an error. Ohtani retired the side in the first and second innings. He touched 100 mph on a four-seam fastball to Iván Herrera, who struck out swinging in the third. Jordan Walker singled leading off and stole second, the first swiped bag against Ohtani this season. Brendon Donovan's bunt single scored Walker, giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. Ohtani had to leave his last start at Cincinnati with right hip cramps on July 30. Chelsea striker Marc Guiu joins promoted Sunderland on loan
SUNDERLAND, England (AP) — Newly promoted Sunderland signed 19-year-old striker Marc Guiu on a season-long loan from Chelsea on Wednesday ahead of the new Premier League campaign. Guiu made 16 appearances for Enzo Maresca's team last season and scored six goals — all in the UEFA Conference League campaign. Chelsea won the third-tier competition. Guiu became the second-youngest player (18 years, 350 days old) to score a hat trick for Chelsea. That feat came in a 5-1 victory over Shamrock Rovers. The Spaniard also played twice in Chelsea's run to the Club World Cup title. 'I see myself as a powerful striker, who can make a difference on and off the ball, and I pride myself on being a natural goalscorer,' he said in Sunderland's announcement.
