In cricket, a diamond duck refers to a dismissal where the batter is out without facing a single delivery. It is one of the rarest and most unfortunate ways for a batter to get out. This usually happens through a run-out, where the non-striker is dismissed while attempting a run before facing a ball, or occasionally if the striker is run out from the non-striker's end during a miscommunication.
The term 'duck' itself signifies a score of zero. It originated from the shape of the number "0", resembling a duck's egg. Various types of ducks exist, such as the golden duck (out on the first ball faced) or platinum duck (out on the first ball of the innings). A diamond duck is worse in some ways because the batter doesn't even get the chance to play a delivery.

Diamond ducks are particularly painful for top-order batters or star players because they occur before any contribution is made.
In team strategy and batting partnerships, these dismissals can disrupt momentum and confidence. They are also notable in statistical records and can be used in commentary to highlight the chaos or pressure in a particular moment of the game.
More Than a Team: The Rise of CSK & the Whistle Podu Army
Because of its rarity and the circumstances often surrounding it—poor communication, panic running, or sharp fielding—a diamond duck can become a talking point in post-match discussions and is often replayed in highlights as a moment of drama or misfortune.

IPL 2025 Final, RCB vs PBKS: Mood in Ahmedabad completely dry ahead of title clash

The mood in Ahmedabad is 'dry' ahead of the title decider (Image courtesy - Pratyush Raj of in Ahmedabad : Outside the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, there are big cutouts of two captains Shreyas Iyer and Rajat Patidar. The handful of fans hoping to see Virat Kohli were perplexed to see the image of Rajat Patidar. "Who is he?," asked one of the fans outside Gate No. 1. The vendor, who was busy selling jerseys, replied angrily, "he is the captain of the team whose jersey you are buying." The poor guy had no clue about Rajat Patidar, and murmured, "wasn't Kohli the captain?" Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! The vendors aren't particularly fans of the sport but they have a lot of hopes riding on the proceedings and the outcomes. "There isn't a buzz this time around. We failed to sell Rohit Sharma's jersey ahead of Qualifier 2, and now we are struggling to find buyers for Kohli's. We don't care who wins as long as we are selling jerseys. Hopefully, we will have more sales on Tuesday," said Krupal, before he started chanting the rates of the jerseys. On Sunday, hardly 50,000 people turned up to watch the Qualifier 2 match between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians. There were no buyers for many of the hospitality boxes as they were empty. The IPL final, which was shifted to the world's biggest stadium in Ahmedabad, has failed to create any buzz in the city. Hyderabad and Kolkata were supposed to host the playoffs as per the original dates but the venues were changed citing "weather conditions." The rain, however, has continued to follow the business end of the cash-rich league as there was a heavy shower ahead of Qualifier 2 and a light spell is expected on Tuesday as well. Even if the weather permits and the match goes ahead, it would be interesting to see whether the title clash will be able to fill the Narendra Modi Stadium. In the pre-match press conference, both captains chose to keep cards close to their chests. Shreyas Iyer spoke about lack of sleep while a soft-spoken and very un-RCB-like captain Rajat Patidar reserved praise for the fans and vowed not to get bogged down by the unreal expectation. The PBKS players, tired from their rain-affected marathon match, didn't turn up for the training session. Captain Shreyas left the venue after the photo shoot but RCB did train for around two hours. Tyreek Hill trade still in play as Dolphins weigh cap relief amid offseason turmoil

Tyreek Hill's $29M gamble ( Image credit: Imagn Images) The Miami Dolphins are making headlines with a bold financial commitment to wide receiver Tyreek Hill, locking in $29 million as part of a lucrative contract restructure. This high-stakes decision underscores the franchise's belief in Hill's long-term value, even as the star receiver faces personal and professional challenges. Dolphins bet big on Tyreek Hill despite dip and drama Tyreek Hill, known for his electrifying speed and game-changing plays, saw a dip in his 2024 performance, posting career-low stats in receptions and yardage. Despite missing the playoffs, Miami is doubling down on their faith in the 'Cheetah,' guaranteeing him $65 million over the next three seasons and solidifying a $90 million package through 2026. This move gives Hill the most fully guaranteed money ever earned by an NFL wide receiver without extending the contract—a landmark financial commitment in the league. However, this decision comes on the heels of a turbulent offseason. Hill's personal life made tabloid waves after his wife, Keeta Vaccaro, filed for divorce following an alleged domestic incident. Although no legal charges emerged, the episode cast a shadow over Hill's public image. From a team-building perspective, the Dolphins' restructuring creates cap flexibility while also betting on Hill's leadership and bounce-back potential. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pare a neuropatia: descubra como NeuroFit Undo It's a message to the league, Miami isn't panicking they're investing in their core, even amid controversy. Trade buzz grows as Dolphins weigh financial fallout in Tyreek Hill saga Still, trade speculation lingers. According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the possibility of moving on from Hill isn't off the table. 'That could change in a couple of days. Given the realities of Hill's contract (re-done in 2024), it makes sense for the Dolphins to hold Hill until June 2 or later. That's when the cap consequences can be spread over two years.' 'For now, Hill has $28.296 million in unallocated bonus money that will hit the cap. A pre-June 1 trade means all of it lands in 2025. A post-June 1 trade limits the 2025 dead money to $12.728 million, with the remaining $15.568 million landing on the cap in 2026,' he wrote. Also read: 'I've got to prove myself': Tyreek Hill vows to prove himself again as Dolphins fans brace for a defining season This financial breakdown suggests Miami may be strategically waiting for the post-June 1 window, where a potential trade would be significantly less damaging to their salary cap. As the 2025 season looms, this $29 million gamble could either reestablish Hill as the league's most feared wideout or mark the beginning of a calculated exit from South Florida.

But under the calm leadership of Rajat Patidar, they've staged a spirited comeback this season, peaking at the right time. Their 8-wicket demolition of PBKS in Qualifier 1 was a statement of intent, led by Patidar's poise, Phil Salt's fireworks, and a bowling unit firing on all cylinders.
