JCorp Focuses On Empowering Bumiputera Entrepreneurs To Compete Within Regional Supply Chains

JOHOR BAHRU, May 30 (Bernama) -- Johor Corporation (JCorp) is focused on empowering Bumiputera entrepreneurs to compete within regional supply chains linked to the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).
Its president and chief executive, Datuk Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim, said the state government-owned company provides support to Bumiputera entrepreneurs through initiatives ranging from enterprise upskilling at the Johor Skills Development Centre (Johor Skills) to procurement readiness, sectoral certification and financing support through collaborations with Tabung Ekonomi Kumpulan Usaha Niaga (TEKUN), SME Corp and Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA).

He emphasised that these are not standalone programmes but part of a deliberate strategy to integrate Bumiputera SMEs into high-growth sectors such as logistics, digital services, and agri-food.
'Inclusion without capability leads to dependency. We're building businesses that can stand, scale and stay relevant in tomorrow's economy,' he told Bernama in an interview recently.
Syed Mohamed said JCorp is also working with partners to create industry mentorship pathways and market access platforms to ensure long-term business viability, not just short-term participation.
Additionally, he said JCorp has also been planning for areas outside of JS-SEZ and the primary economic corridor to benefit from the economic development.
'We are doing so by planning from the outset for spillover, not sprawl. We plan intentionally for balanced growth, ensuring development reaches areas beyond primary corridors.
'Balanced growth requires intentional design. We don't wait for the market to trickle as we seed development where it's needed most,' he said.

HLC On Rural Development To Drive Integrated, Sustainable Growth
GENERAL KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) continues to strengthen the rural development agenda through the official establishment of the High-Level Committee (HLC) on Rural Development - the highest-level strategic platform that discusses comprehensive rural development policies and implementation across ministries and agencies. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the HLC will be supported by working committees formed around six key focus areas, namely education, entrepreneur development, rural economy, technology and digitalisation, rural tourism, and rural infrastructure. Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, said the HLC will meet at least twice a year, or as required. 'The establishment of the HLC is in line with the aspirations of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), which emphasises integrated governance to reduce duplication of functions, optimise resource utilisation, and accelerate the achievement of outcomes. 'Through this HLC, the government aims to reduce youth migration to cities by creating more opportunities in rural areas, producing more rural techno-entrepreneurs, strengthening the role of the Regional Development Board through new business models and boosting a competitive rural tourism sector,' he said in a statement today. Earlier, he chaired the inaugural HLC meeting at the Parliament Building, which was also attended by Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek and Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing. According to Ahmad Zahid, the key inputs from the meeting included improving facilities and access to rural schools, enhancing the promotion of rural tourism, addressing the welfare of the elderly and people with special needs, and upgrading health infrastructure to improve the well-being of rural communities. He said the cross-ministerial initiatives already underway and directly benefiting rural stakeholders include UP_TVET, a centralised application system for Technical and Vocational Education and Training courses. Other programmes include Inap Desa Tahun Melawat Malaysia 2026, which promotes rural tourism as a key attraction; the Mega 3-Dimensional Carnival (KM3D), a large-scale entrepreneurship platform; and the SBP-MRSM Single Application System, which streamlines admission to boarding schools.

East-West Highway upgrades a priority under Budget 2026, says Nanta
KUALA KANGSAR: The East-West Highway, particularly the Gerik-Jeli stretch, is among the key priorities for the Works Ministry under Budget 2026, minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi says. He said the ministry has submitted a funding request to upgrade several sections of the route, citing urgent safety needs. However, the exact allocation will depend on the government's final decision. "It's not a special allocation, we've included it under regular funding requests for the highway," he told reporters after the official opening of the Sultan Muzzaffar Shah Bridge at Dataran Manong here on Thursday (Aug 14). Earlier, Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah officially inaugurated the bridge. Also present were Raja Permaisuri of Perak Tuanku Zara Salim, Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, his wife Datin Seri Aezer Zubin, as well as Public Works director-general Datuk Roslan Ismail. As part of ongoing safety measures along the JRTB, Nanta said 385 solar-powered streetlights have been installed in high-risk areas and dangerous bends, commonly known as 'black spots'. "These are not for the entire highway, only for critical sections identified through our assessments," he said, adding that damaged guardrails, signboards and road markings are also being repaired or replaced. Nanta also announced the launch of the MYJalan mobile app, which aims to enable the public to report road damage and submit feedback directly to the ministry. "Perak has been chosen as the first state to launch the MYJalan initiative, reflecting our commitment to public feedback and road safety," he said. He added that the highway's condition had been a concern since the start of his tenure and described the highway as not only a vital interstate link but also a key part of the country's road development history.
