Down run king Tete Dijana came out victorious with Piet Wiersma hot on his heels during the 98th edition of the Comrades Marathon from Pietermaritzburg to Durban on Monday.
On the women's front, Gerda Steyn made it her fourth Comrades Marathon win.
Dijana said he felt like a real winner, and he was indeed, a 'down-run real champion'.
'I was so excited. Very, very excited and also emotional because I remember what happened last year… I was in the best shape, but the devil came, so I was happy that at least the devil didn't attack me this year,' Dijana said.
'I've been getting pressure from social media saying, 'don't let it go again', they used the word again. So I had to fix everything.'

Dijana said he came prepared. His game plan in the morning was eyeing everyone, checking who was leading, but not underestimating his mates.
On Wiersma closing in on him, Dijana said: 'In the last 10 kilometres, I saw he was closing in. Then I accelerated a little bit, and then the gap opened.'
Wiersma, the 2024 champion, said he felt like he was in the best shape of his life and even better than last year.
'I was having a lot of discomfort over those last kilometres. Sometimes I was closing and sometimes Tete was gaining some distance,' Wiersma said.
'He's the absolute down run king, right now. I'm going to try next year to be the upper king again.'
Third-place Nikolai Volkov said the race went according to his plan.
'The first part of the race was based only on my feelings,' Volkov said.
'At one point in time, I was outraced by a big group of 15 people. I decided that I didn't want to go with them. I was still trying to cooperate with my feelings. In the last 20km, I caught up to 12 guys from this group.'
Gerda Steyn clinched her fourth Comrades Marathon title on Sunday.

Steyn said she set out at not too blistering a pace, a little bit more of a conservative approach.
"I really wanted to run the race correctly. It worked out well. It got comfortable for most of the way,' Steyn said.
'There was a little bit of a moment where I realised that Alexandra (Morozova) was closing the gap on me quite significantly in the really last stages of the race, which really made me stay on my toes and make sure that I am 100% focused and getting the most out of myself.'
The champion said she had a time in mind, but not a strict one. She planned on getting in under 5 hours and 55 minutes.
She added that it was an honour to give Hollywood Athletics Club a winner this year.
Second place, Morozova said this is her best Comrades result and her best pace.
'Until the 30th kilometre, I kept the pace with Gerda… but after the 30th kilometre, it became clear that it was just a warm-up for Gerda… I decided to let Gerda run her race and to play my game,' Morozova said.
'I'm really glad I held my second place because at one point in time, I thought that the race for me was almost over.
'At one point in the race, I saw how Dominika (Stelmach) started to close the gap, and I was really afraid that she'll catch me.'
Shelmisth Muriuki claimed third place on her first Comrades Marathon.
'I would like to say that it is through God's grace because I almost gave up at 50km… because my legs were paining, I had blisters… it is just God,' Muriuki said.
'The race was good. It was amazing.'

Cloned - KZN Treasury casts doubt on King Misuzulu's plan for R10 collection from Zulus

King Misuzulu has moved this year's Reed Dance festival from Enyokeni palace to Mashobeni Palace. Image: Bongani Mbatha/ Independent Newspapers KwaZulu-Natal Treasury, the funder of the Zulu kingdom's cultural events, has poured cold water on the proposed monthly R10 contribution from Zulu people to make King Misuzulu and the royal family financially independent from the government. Reacting to the proposal, which has sparked public debate, provincial Treasury MEC Francois Rodgers said he did not know any legislation that permitted such revenue generation. 'I am unaware of legislation that permits such a manner of revenue generation,' said Rodgers. Last week, Rodgers announced that he would not allow additional funding for this year's Reed Dance festival after the king moved it from Enyokeni royal palace to Mashobeni palace. In so doing, it left behind a R140 million amphitheatre complex, which years ago, was specifically requested by the royal family. The complex was fast-tracked to be ready for this year's ceremony, however, the king announced that the event will no longer take place at the venue. During an inspection last month by Arts and Culture MEC Mtomuhle Khawula and Public Works and Infrastructure MEC Martin Meyer, it was announced that the government will no longer need to hire VIP marquees and toilets as Enyokeni had the infrastructure in place. The newly-built Mashobeni palace in Pongola on the north-east of the province had no building to house VIP guests which means the organisers will have to procure marquees and ablution facilities. Advertisement Next Stay Close ✕ Ad loading In a direct response to the Treasury's decision to refuse additional funding, the king's advisors proposed that all Zulus must contribute R10 a month so that the king would not have to rely on government funding. In a statement issued by the advisors, African historian, Professor Jabulani Maphalala and Abantu Botho Congress founder Philani Mavundla, they said they were concerned about the negative press coverage of the king's decision to relocate the Reed Dance from Nyokeni to Mashobeni. The advisors invoked an old Zulu saying that 'Umlomo Ongathethimanga', which meant that once the king has spoken, no other voice should challenge his authority. Maphalala on Sunday defended the proposal, saying it was important because politicians tend to undermine the king as he is on their payroll and they fund his cultural ceremonies.

Kelvin Momo fails to show up for his scheduled performance at Sun City Resorts

Sun City Resorts has taken to social media to reveal that top music producer and DJ Kelvin Momo failed to pitch for his scheduled performance. Image: Independent Newspapers/Timothy Bernard South African music producer and DJ, Kelvin Momo, is back in the news for missing a booked performance. Sun City Resorts, on Saturday, had to rush into crisis mode when, at the eleventh hour, Kelvin Momo ditched them for their Outside event. In a statement, Sun City Resorts shared with attendees that Kelvin Momo would not perform at the event as scheduled, after not arriving for the show despite being contracted, booked and paid for. 'Neither Momo nor his manager have responded to any of Sun City's requests for an update. We, along with our partners, have exhausted every avenue possible to ensure that he performs,' read the statement. The DJ has garnered a reputation for not showing up for his booked gigs. Before his Red Bull Symphonic show, fans were anxious about whether he would make the gigs, as he had missed three scheduled performances. At the time, Momo's management team released a statement acknowledging the missed gigs, but they have been mum about Kelvin Momo missing the Sun City Resorts performance. The Outside event was, however, saved by Murdah Bongz, who performed. The DJ and musician is signed to the same management, TSquared Productions, as Kelvin Momo. In July, TSquared Productions released a statement making fans aware of a booking scam being by HDS Concepts or Devon, accepting false booking, emphasiszing that the claims were false and misleading. The team further clarified that all legitimate bookings and engagements for Momo go through them (TSquared Productions), and warned fans and promoters to verify any inquiries through official channels. IOL has reached out to TSquared Productions for a right of reply, as to why the Sun City Resorts Outside gig wasnt adhered to by Kelvin Momo. This article will be updated when a response is recieved.
