When Aishwarya Rai revealed Ranbir Kapoor LIED to her — found out the truth 15 years later!

Aishwarya Rai
Bachchan once shared a light-hearted story about her co-star
Ranbir Kapoor
that still makes people smile. The two first worked together in 2016 in
Karan Johar
's romantic drama '
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
', also starring Anushka Sharma. But it was during the film's promotions that
Aishwarya
revealed how Ranbir once told her a cheeky little lie, and how she only found out the truth more than 15 years later!
A warm bond beyond the screen
In 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil', fans loved the sizzling chemistry between Aishwarya and Ranbir. Off the screen too, they seemed to share a close and friendly bond. This became clear when they went on the popular show '
The Kapil Sharma Show
' to promote their film.
While joking around and sharing old memories, Aishwarya ended up telling a funny story about the 'Rockstar' actor from years ago.
The day Ranbir lied about his marks
During a fun segment on the show, the host showed an old photo of Ranbir. Seeing this, the 'Guru' actress burst into laughter. She remembered how Ranbir had once told her he scored 'about 65 percent' in his Class 10 board exams. But that wasn't true at all! She then revealed that it was only during the shoot of 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil', over 15 years later, that she finally learnt he had actually scored just 54 percent.
A party for the wrong result
The story became even funnier when Aishwarya shared how Ranbir's grandmother, Krishna Kapoor, had thrown a huge party to celebrate his exam result. Aishwarya said, 'His grandmother Krishna aunty was very excited. I have to throw a very big party, have to give dinner to everyone and the whole celebration was going on and we both were laughing while looking at everyone on the side and he was saying that everyone is so happy in just this much.

The 'Brahmastra' actor then explained why this happened. He said he had calculated his best five subjects and proudly declared that as his result at home. The Kapoors were so thrilled, they didn't ask any more questions and threw a grand party. Looking back, both Ranbir and Aishwarya found it hilarious that so many people had come together to celebrate marks that were not quite what everyone thought!
On the work front, Aishwarya was last seen in
Mani Ratnam
's period drama 'Ponniyin Selvan II', which came out in 2023. Ranbir Kapoor is now preparing for Nitish Tiwari's '
Ramayana
', where he will play Lord Ram alongside
Sai Pallavi
as Sita.

One-take movie by Iranian director among 98 films competing at fest

1 2 Kolkata: Ninety-eight films, exploring diverse subjects, such as AI, the desire for hilsa in a patriarchal household and Kolkata's music shop, are vying for the top awards at the 8th South Asian Short Film Festival that started at Nandan on Monday. Among the entries at the festival, launched by the Federation of Film Societies of India (Eastern Region), is a single-take film—'Spasm' —by an Iranian director and an Indian producer. Directed by Sahra Asadollahi and produced by Deepankar Prakash, the short film, 'Spasm', is about what happens when a woman who has never acted in film goes for an audition that becomes a test of more than just her acting ability. "I met Sahra at a festival in Nepal in 2023. Soon, we decided to collaborate and started work on this 27-minute-long film. Sahra, an actor in Iran, shot the film completely in Tehran, while I was in India. She herself played the role of the woman in the film," said Prakash, whose 'Naanera' had won in the competition on Indian Language's Films at the Kolkata International Film Festival in 2022. From her father's horse to her 10-month-old baby—questions are flung at her from all quarters. Finally, a situation arises where she is compelled to believe she is rejected. But the situation takes a different turn when she is told the confrontation was deliberately orchestrated to evaluate her acting skill. In recent times, the long single-take shooting approach, especially after the success of 'Adolescence', has got cine enthusiasts talking. 'Spasm' is the first one-take film in competition at the South Asian Short Film Festival. What makes this film engaging is how minimalism has been effectively used to counter the challenges of filming by a woman director in Iran. Shot inside one room with minimal production and sound design, 'Spasm' features only an animated Asadollahi seated in front of the camera. The camera angle is such that the faces of no other cast member, including the director and the producer, are visible. For many independent film-makers, who complain about shortage of funds and lack of infrastructure in this city, the film is a lesson on how big ideas, not big budgets, are important for good cinema. "Sahra is unable to come to Kolkata now because of the situation in her country. But I will be at the festival," Prakash added.
