Celtics rival listed in preferred Kevin Durant trade destinations (report)

Yahoo4 hours ago

The Kevin Durant trade sweepstakes are starting to get momentum ahead of the 2025 NBA Draft as three teams are at the top of his list. Per ESPN's Shams Charania, the Heat, Spurs and Rockets are Durant's preferred trade destinations. Charania reports that Durant would sign long-term extensions with each of those franchises.
Durant, 36, is on an expiring $54.7 million deal. So teams looking to trade for the All-Star could be looking to keep him beyond just the 2025-26 season. Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists last season in 62 games, so even though he's getting older, it's clear he can still impact the game at a high level.

Charania originally reported several teams were hoping to trade for one of the best scorers of all-time. He also reported that the Suns "have made clear to six-to-eight seriously interested teams that they will make the best deal for the franchise." So, Durant could still end up on a separate team outside of his preferred list.
The Heat could make a big swing if they landed Durant, though it could get costly. Miami was mediocre last season, finishing 37-45 after trading Jimmy Butler midseason. While they showed some life to earn the No. 8 seed in the playoffs by getting through the play-in tournament, all they got was a sweep at the hands of the No. 1-seeded Cavaliers in the first round.
While there have been other trade rumors, where Durant ends up is the big early question mark of the offseason. He's still shown to be a game-changing player, so contending teams could view him as a potential last piece.

Majority stake in Lakers will be sold at $10 billion valuation

Remember when Steve Ballmer bought the L.A. Clippers for $2 billion and everyone lost their minds? Eleven years later, stay in town multiply it by five. Minority owner Mark Walter has purchased a majority stake in the L.A. Lakers at a valuation of $10 billion. That's a record for any American sports franchise. The late Dr. Jerry Buss bought the team in 1979 for $67.5 million. The Buss family had owned 66 percent of the team. Jeannie Buss reportedly plans to continue to continue to serve as the team's governor, which will give her the power to vote on league matters at NBA ownership meetings. Earlier this year, the Boston Celtics sold at a valuation of $6.1 billion. Last month, a minority stake in the 49ers was sold at a valuation of $8.6 billion. It's safe to say that controlling interest in any NFL team would generate a valuation of more than $10 billion. Some teams (like the Cowboys) would approach or exceed $15 billion. The fact that the Lakers were sold at a $10 billion valuation will only make that more likely.

Hawks GM Saleh names former Pelicans GM Graham as vice president of basketball operations

ATLANTA — Atlanta Hawks general manager Onsi Saleh has bolstered his front office staff by naming former New Orleans Pelicans general manager Bryson Graham as senior vice president of basketball operations. Saleh on Wednesday also named former Philadelphia 76ers executive vice president Peter Dinwiddie as senior vice president of strategy and analytics. Saleh was named general manager on April 21 after Landry Fields was fired. The front office overhaul came after the Hawks finished 40-42 this season and missed the playoffs after going 0-2 in the play-in tournament. 'We are fortunate to be able to add Bryson and Peter to our leadership team,' Saleh said in a statement released by the Hawks. 'Bryson is widely regarded as one of the league's top young talent evaluators and Peter is one of the most strategic minds in the NBA. 'Ownership has empowered me to build a robust and dynamic front office, and adding two extremely talented, experienced and respected executives in Bryson and Peter is a home run for our group.' Graham spent 15 seasons with the Pelicans, including the 2024-25 season as general manager. He rose through the team's front office after being hired as an intern in the 2010-11 season and then served as player development director, director of college scouting and assistant general manager, among other positions. Before serving as the 76ers vice president of basketball operations, Dinwiddie spent 14 seasons with the Indiana Pacers, including as the senior vice president of basketball operations. The Hawks have two first-round picks in the NBA draft on June 25, at No. 13 and No. 22. ___ AP NBA:
