Telangana High Court reserves orders on Group-1 exam
Appearing for the petitioners, senior advocates G Vidya Sagar, K S Murthy, and B Rachna termed the exam process 'haphazard' and 'marred by massive illegalities'.
Vidya Sagar argued that the TGPSC failed to adhere to mandatory statutory procedures by failing to notify each and every procedural aspect, such as rounds of evaluation, moderation methods, or re-evaluation, via a gazette notification. He argued that the TGPSC failed to disclose these critical processes, thereby compromising the transparency and fairness of the examination.
Rachna raised concerns over issuance of two hall ticket numbers to individual candidates, causing confusion among those who qualified in the preliminary round. She also alleged that unqualified evaluators assessed the answer scripts written in Telugu, resulting in a low pass percentage of only 18%, in contrast to 30% among English medium candidates.
The counsel also alleged that biometric verification was not properly implemented and questioned the TGPSC's claim that CCTV surveillance was centrally monitored, calling it a suspicious and unverified assertion.
After hearing the arguments, Justice Namavarapu Rajeshwar Rao has reserved orders.

The jury which selected the longlist included chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Group N. The winning author will be awarded a cash prize of ₹15 lakh. The shortlist will be announced in October 2025 and the winner will be announced on December 6, during Bangalore Literature Festival. Instituted in 2018, the Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay Book Prize is India's largest Book Prize for non-fiction, open to writers of all nationalities who have worked on any aspect of Indian history after Independence. The work can be originally written in English or translated into English, and welcomes a wide range of non-fiction genres. Ashok Gopal won last year's Book Prize for A Part Apart: The Life and Thought of B.R. Ambedkar (Navayana). Previous winners include Akshaya Mukul for Writer, Rebel, Soldier, Lover: The Many Lives of Agyeya and Shekhar Pathak for The Chipko Movement: A People's History, translated by Manisha Chaudhry.

‘Zero tolerance...': Mahindra Group assures of strict action after employee issues ‘rape & death' threats against MP
The Mahindra Group issued a statement on Monday regarding the 'undignified and highly inappropriate messages' allegedly posted by one of its employees toward a political leader on Facebook. This comes a day after Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Sulata Deo alleged that Mahindra's Nashik branch manager and a BJP worker, Satyabrata Nayak, sent her rape and murder threats on Facebook. In an official statement, the Mahindra Group said an immediate investigation is being conducted 'with utmost seriousness' and assured that strict action would be taken should the allegations be validated. The company said it has 'zero tolerance for any form of misconduct, intimidation, or threats' and has 'always enshrined the importance of human dignity.' According to media reports, no police case has been registered yet. The BJP MP is 'waiting for the law agencies to take suo motu cognisance' of the matter. In an X post, Sulata Deo on Sunday shared screenshots showing comments in an Odia-English mix targeting her. 'Dear PMO INDIA, a worker of Mahindra Company, Nasik, as well as a BJP worker, openly threatens a Woman MP to rape and kill. If this is the situation, imagine what happens to the unprivileged women of Odisha!!!,' she wrote while tagging BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in her post. The threats were reportedly made in response to her Facebook post on a video statement of the minor girl of Odisha's Puri district, who died of burn injuries at AIIMS New Delhi on August 2. In the purported video, the girl can be heard saying that three unidentified youths with their faces covered abducted her and set her on fire when she was returning home on July 19. This was also the content of her mother's FIR registered at Balanga Police Station on the same day. Her father also said, without elaborating, that his daughter was 'under mental pressure and took her life'. LiveMint could not independently verify the authenticity of the video. Asserting that the statement in the video does not accurately represent her actual testimony, the police said it wanted to know who recorded the video and how it went to social media. Mahindra Group statement read: 'We have been made aware of certain undignified and highly inappropriate messages allegedly made by one of our employees towards a political leader on Facebook. Mahindra has zero tolerance for any form of misconduct, intimidation, or threats. The Mahindra Group has always enshrined the importance of human dignity from its very foundation and believes in upholding an environment of respect, with no tolerance for any breaches of these principles We take this matter with utmost seriousness and have initiated an immediate investigation. Should the allegations be validated, strict action will be taken in accordance with our code of conduct and values.' Sharing Mahindra Group's statement on X, Sulata Deo said it was 'reassuring' to know that the company had started an investigation into the matter. 'That said, I will not remain silent and fight to the core against this type of mindset against women and children. Waiting for the law agencies to take suo motto cognisance of the said matter,' she added. 'India would be safer for women if the mindset against women were benign. Let's fight against this malignancy,' the BJD MP wrote, while extending gratitude to social media users for their 'tremendous support'. She said that she would raise the issue in the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament and file a police complaint.

Create awareness among students about committee and against paying excess fees: FRC to State departments
The Fee Regulatory Committee (FRC) has written a letter to the Secretaries of the Departments of Higher Education, Medical Education and Health and Family Welfare to create awareness about the FRC if there are complaints regarding colleges seeking excess fee. The FRC's direction came following complaints by medical and engineering students regarding demand for excess fee and advance fee payment for entire courses. Justice B. Sreenivase Gowda, Chairman of FRC has said that the departments should issue necessary directions to the Executive Director of KEA to include the clause: 'students aggrieved by demands for excess fees and/or demands for payment of the entire course fee in advance by private professional colleges at the time of admission shall be at liberty to approach the Fee Regulatory Committee (FRC), located in the KEA building, for redressal of their grievances,' in the allotment letter/admission order. Mentioning that complaints have been received about the demand for additional fees by the principal of a college in Mangaluru, he said that the committee finds that the complaints do not contain material particulars such as names, contact numbers and email IDs. 'In the absence of the above particulars, the FRC cannot enquire into the complaints and provide appropriate relief,' he stated. He suggested to insert above the clause in the Consensual Agreement (CA) entered by the State government with Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering Colleges Association (KUPECA) and Karnataka Religious and Linguistic Minority Professional Colleges Association (KRLMPCA) and other associations. 'It would be more effective and fruitful if such Consensual Agreement is web-hosted in the website of the colleges and department,' he stated. Justice Gowda also also suggested to issue notifications in minimum two Kannada and English daily newspapers widely circulated across the State and the Centre at the time of commencement of every academic year.
