Sophie Nyweide death update as police investigate 'foul play'
Police in Vermont are investigating the death of actress Sophie Nyweide, who died at the age of 24, and police have reportedly said they are not ruling out foul play
Police investigating the death of actress Sophie Nyweide are not ruling out foul play, it has been reported. The former child actress - who has worked with a string of Hollywood names - was found dead at the age of 24.
Sophie was best known for playing the daughter of Michelle Williams and Gael García Bernal 's characters in the 2009 romantic drama Mammoth and in a moving statement, her family paid a heartbreaking tribute to Sophie.
"Sophie was a kind and trusting girl. Often this left her open to being taken advantage of by others. She wrote and drew voraciously, and much of this art depicts the depth she had, and it also represents the pain she suffered. Many of her writings and artwork are roadmaps of her struggles and traumas," they shared.
"Even with those roadmaps, diagnoses and her own revelations, those closest to her, plus therapists, law enforcement officers and others who tried to help her, are heartbroken their efforts couldn't save her from her fate.
"She self-medicated to deal with all the trauma and shame she held inside, and it resulted in her death. She repeatedly said she would 'handle it' on her own and was compelled to reject the treatment that might possibly have saved her life."
It is now being reported by TMZ that Bennington Police have said that Sophie's body was found not far from a high school in the town at around 4am on April 14. She was declared dead at the scene.
According to police, her body was found near a lean-to and nothing has been ruled out in relation to her death. An autopsy is still said to be pending as well as a toxicology report. A man was allegedly with Sophie when she died but he is said to be cooperating with police and isn't considered to be a suspect or a person of interest.
Police are said to be looking at a range of causes including foul play after Sophie was found on a riverbank. Other people were said to be hanging out with Sophie at the lean-to before her death and police want to track them down for interviews. Sophie is believed to have visited the lean-to on multiple occasions but she did not live there.
Sophie landed her first movie in 2006, a production called Bella, and she also notably starred as the young daughter of a mum who had cancer in the 2010 film Invisible Sign. She also appeared in 2007 movies, And Then Came Love and New York Serenade.

Arrgh you joking? Tesco pensioner stuns shoppers by bringing his pet PARROT with him to buy groceries
On a balance of probabilities, parrots are more likely to be spotted walking the plank than walking down the ready meals aisle of a major supermarket. But that was exactly the scene that greeted one customer, who was left stunned after spotting a pensioner with a colourful parrot perched upon his shoulder in his local Tesco. Named Bella, the 12-year-old exotic bird prompted the stunned man to capture his unusual encounter on video. Posting the footage to X, the astonished man can't help but exclaim, 'That is something unbelievable. Oh my God,' as he spots the red-and-green macaw. 'See the parrot, man, in Tesco,' he continues. After approaching the otherwise unperturbed owner, the man says: 'How are we uncle, you OK? Lovely parrot, man. How old is it?' After being told the bird is aged 12, the curious bystander asks whether the bird speaks. 'She does when she wants,' replies her owner. Man brings his parrot along with him on his Tesco shop 🦜🛒 (TikTok: mr_w1cked1) — UB1UB2 West London (Southall) (@UB1UB2) June 6, 2025 He went on to add that she could fly off 'if she wants to', but remained firmly on the man's shoulder as he casually walked down each aisle to pick up his groceries. 'That is good man, you've trained her well,' the surprised customer told the bird owner, before bidding him farewell. Green-winged macaws are the second largest parrots next to the hyacinth macaw and can reach flight speeds of up to 35mph. They have a very powerful beak which can generate a pressure of 2000 psi (pounds per square inch) and have the ability to crack open incredibly hard-shelled nuts, such as Brazil nuts with ease. Parrots mainly eat seeds, fruits, blossoms, buds, leaves, berries, nuts and sometimes bark - and do indeed enjoy the occasional cracker as well.

Prince William and Princess Sophie wow crowds as they team up for rare Royal double act

They toasted each other with gin during a joint engagement at the Royal Cornwall Show — and she proved to be a tonic by helping out with the heir to the throne's duties. When he was offered a Rattler cider, Wills, 42, quipped: 'Everyone remembers their first Rattler. You don't remember your last.' He pretended to turn his nose up at the zero per cent alcohol option he was initially offered and asked for the proper stuff. At a gin stand, Wills joked he could 'see what today's going to be like' and also teased Sophie. They had been taken into a food and drinks tent, where Sophie was also seen happily chatting to a mother and baby about local produce. They went first to a chutney stand and then to the gin stall as William said: 'We've come from the chutneys straight into booze.' They were shown several gins before each were given one to try. He caught the Duchess going for another sip and joked to her: 'She said, 'You're not allowed to finish it'. You've got to watch her.' Sophie, 60, responded: 'He's learnt from the best.' Wills joked back: 'I've been caught out with whisky a few too many times. Desperate Harry & Meghan jump from idea to idea, only William & Kate have true clout "I think I can do that and then, 'Oh no I couldn't'.' The pair were also given a traditional Cornish pasty by Ann's Pasties. They then moved to the Healeys Cyder Farm stand, where William said: 'Look at the Rattler selection. Ah, definitely I'm happy about that.' Head of hospitality Laura Clerehugh, 36, said: 'I was going to say, you've had a Rattler.' William responded: 'Everyone remembers where they were when they had their first Rattler, I can tell you that.' He then laughingly agreed that you don't remember your last. Wills then asked about the 'zero' on the bottle, and when told that it meant zero alcohol he put the cup down and said: 'Oh no, no, no. I need original. Someone bring out the big guns.' Sources said the day was a huge success. Sophie has been touted as the Royal Family's 'secret weapon' thanks to her unwavering support for the monarchy and dedication to charities. She was ranked the fourth hardest working royal of last year, having carried out 257 engagements. Her welcome contribution comes at a difficult time for the Royal Family. They were rocked last year when the King and the Princess of Wales were diagnosed with cancer. Charles continues to receive treatment, while Kate announced earlier this year that she was in remission. The King had a blast yesterday as he fired an artillery piece on a visit to the Royal Regiment of Artillery at Larkhill, Wiltshire.

'They have been friendly since and have even been at the same venues. It's a huge shame, particularly as David and Victoria really adored her and thought she made Romeo happy but it wasn't to be. 'It happened a couple of weeks ago and relations have remained friendly between them.' The split took place amid reports of a family feud between the Beckham family and eldest son Brooklyn Beckham, 26.
