Health check-up camp launched in civic office
Commissioner Saidulu emphasized that the State government is implementing the 100-Day Plan with a strong focus on welfare and health across departments. He announced that every Friday, a health camp will be conducted within the municipal office premises, exclusively for sanitation workers, water supply staff, electrical department employees, revenue staff, and other municipal officers. The camp includes basic health screenings such as blood pressure (BP) and blood sugar (diabetes) tests.
The Commissioner also mentioned that those already diagnosed with conditions such as hypertension or diabetes will be provided with necessary medications, and if required, will be referred to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) for further lab testing and consultation.
The event witnessed active participation from key personnel, including: Lakshanna, Senior Municipal Assistant.

11 more hospitals in state bag national quality accreditation
T'puram: Health minister Veena George said 11 more healthcare institutions in the state received national quality accreditations. In a statement issued on Sunday, the minister said a total of 251 healthcare institutions in state were accredited with National Quality Assurance Standards ( NQAS ). These include eight district hospitals, six taluk hospitals, 13 community health centres, 46 urban family health centres, 162 family health centres and 16 public health centres. Kozhikode general hospital scored 90.66 per cent, Malappuram Tirurangadi taluk hospital 91.84 per cent, Ernakulam Kumbalangi community health centre 96.90 per cent, Ernakulam Panangad family health centre (FHC) 95.83 per cent, Kozhikode Arikkulam FHC 95.58 per cent, Malappuram Pookkottumanna public health centre (PHC) 85.26 per cent, Malappuram Melangadi PHC 82.77 per cent, Kozhikode Kakkadampoyil PHC 81.99 per cent, Kozhikode Koombara PHC 82.89 per cent, Kozhikode Ponnankayam PHC 94.89 per cent and Kannur Morazha PHC 92.65 per cent in receiving the latest NQAS accreditation. Kozhikode general hospital received NQAS, Lakshya and MusQan accreditations together. The operation theatre for pregnant women at Kozhikode general hospital scored 90.38 per cent, the labour room 88.85 per cent, and bagged MusQan certification with a score of 92.07 per cent. The labour room at Tirurangadi taluk hospital achieved Lakshya certification with a score of 89 per cent. Lakshya accreditation programme is implemented to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates in the state, and ensure quality care for pregnant women and newborns at delivery points in govt hospitals. So far, 15 hospitals in state have received Lakshya certification, including three medical colleges, nine district hospitals and three taluk hospitals. MusQan initiative aims to reduce morbidity and mortality among newborns and children, and ensure quality child-friendly services at public health centres for children from birth to 12 years of age. So far, six healthcare institutions in state have received MusQan certification, including two medical colleges and four district hospitals.

Provide best medical services to those visiting PHCs: Nandyal Collector
Collector Rajakumari Ganiya asked the medical officers to provide the best possible services to those visiting primary health centres (PHCs). The Collector was on a tour of Gospadu mandal headquarters, during which she visited the PHC, Rythu Seva Kendram, and a private fertiliser shop. During her visit to the PHC, Ms. Rajakumari Ganiya enquired about the staff strength, the number of pregnancy deliveries, availability of medicines, and how expired tablets were being disposed. She said that people visit government hospitals with a belief that quality medical care would be available and asked the staff to meet their expectations. Ms. Rajakumari Ganiya asked the staff to create awareness among the people about the benefits of delivering at a government hospital and to increase the number of deliveries. She said that steps would be taken to fill staff vacancies, if any, and asked the staff to maintain clean and hygienic conditions on the PHC premises. The Collector also interacted with the patients and enquired whether they were getting proper treatment, among other things. Later, she visited the Rythu Seva Kendram and enquired about e-KYC, enrolment of crops with the kendram, extent of crop sown, availability of urea, and others with the staff there. She asked the staff to educate farmers about the ill-effects of excess usage of urea in cultivating crops. Ms. Rajakumari Ganiya inspected the Sri Venkata Sai fertilisers shop and went through the records to verify the fertilisers and DAP stocks. She asked the shop management to sell fertilisers at the price fixed by the government and warned of registering criminal cases, if the farmers were forced to buy fertilisers at a higher price.

Consider filling vacant posts at Othakadai PHC: HC to official
Madurai: Madras high court has directed the principal secretary of the health and family welfare department to consider and pass orders on a plea to fill up vacant posts of doctors, nurses, and a health inspector in the Othakadai primary health centre (PHC) in Madurai district. A division bench of justice A D Jagadish Chandira and justice R Poornima passed the order while disposing of a public interest litigation filed by N Abdul Rahman Jalal. The petitioner stated that people from nearly 10 villages visit the centre. As per information obtained under the RTI Act, a total of 383,669 outpatients, 11,934 inpatients, and 16,234 pregnant women were treated at the Othakadai PHC from 2021 to March 2025. While two doctor posts were sanctioned for the PHC, only one doctor is available. Similarly, the post of health inspector and two posts of nurses out of the sanctioned four nurses are vacant, the petitioner said. The present staff members are struggling to provide good care to patients visiting the hospital, he added. Besides, the ultrasound scan equipment remains unused. As a result, poor pregnant women are forced to travel to Government Rajaji Hospital, which is 12km away, for a scan. Hence, the petitioner moved court to fill up the vacant posts and repair the ultrasound equipment.
