After the recent five-match Test series against England, Indian cricketer Akash Deep took some time off to reunite with his family. He met his sisters in Lucknow and celebrated Raksha Bandhan with them.
'I am very happy as I have been able to meet my sisters after a long time… We celebrate every success with our sisters," Akash Deep was quoted as saying to ANI.
Akash played a crucial role in helping India secure a victory in the second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. He achieved the best-ever figures by an Indian in England, with 10/187, becoming only the second Indian to take a ten-fer in England.
His performance peaked during the Birmingham Test when Jasprit Bumrah was absent. In response to India's 587, Akash Deep removed Duckett and Ollie Pope, while Siraj dismissed Crawley. On the third day, Siraj quickly removed Stokes and Root, reducing England to 84/5. Although Brook and Jamie scored massive tons during their 303-run stand for the sixth wicket to avoid an innings defeat, Siraj secured a six-fer, while Akash Deep took a four-fer, ending England's innings at 407. When India set a target of 608 runs, Akash fiercely dismantled the English top-order, delivering the 'Ball of the Series' (as described by legendary Sachin Tendulkar) to dismiss Joe Root. The ball pitched on an attacking full length, nipped away, and crashed into Root's bails. England was bowled out for 271, losing by a massive 336 runs. Akash concluded the second innings with figures of 6/99.
He took 13 wickets at an average of 36.46, with a historic ten-fer. He also made a significant contribution with the bat in the final Test at The Oval, scoring 66 off 94 balls, including 12 fours. He batted at a challenging position at number four and formed an important 107-run partnership with southpaw Yashasvi Jaiswal.
