Expand
To create a food safety management system that affirms the exceptional safety and quality required for direct food contact materials, the new production facility has been equipped with, among others, air showers, dusters with high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters and antibacterial flooring. The new facility has also earned a certification of compliance with Indonesia's halal regulations and is compliant with the World Health Organization's good manufacturing practices (GMP) for guaranteeing that products such as food and pharmaceuticals meet requirements for quality and safety for their intended use. The geopolitically strategic location of Indonesia ideally positions the new facility to serve as an export base for Asia and Oceania, as a result of which DIC is considering further facility expansion going forward.
DIC produces high-performance coatings that can be applied to film, paper and other substrates to impart the necessary performance features, enabling the creation of highly recyclable mono-material packaging. This makes it possible to develop and manufacture packaging that can be readily recycled. The new production facility—the DIC Group's first in Asia, outside of Japan, that is dedicated to producing coatings suitable for direct food contact materials—marks a major step toward strengthening the Group's competitiveness in the global market for sustainable packaging.
Advancing efforts to respond to a circular economy is one of the key sustainability strategies set forth in the DIC Vision 2030 long-term management plan. Capital investment in this new facility will make it possible for the Group to offer locally produced high-performance products—for which technologies were originally developed in the United States, Europe, and Japan—in Asian countries, including the PRC, and Oceania, thereby helping to foster sustainable packaging markets.

China Market Update: Xiaomi's Results Roar (Quietly) As Hong Kong & Mainland China Take A Breather
Xiaomi fell by -1.23% in Hong Kong trading but reported earnings after the market's close. Xpeng fell by -1.85% in Hong Kong trading. A bigger piece of news after the close was that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) held a symposium on competition in the solar industry, highlighting efforts to standardize competition and promote the orderly exit of outdated production capacity. The MIIT will strengthen price monitoring and enforcement against practices such as sales below cost and false advertising. It will be interesting to watch how US-listed China solar stocks respond, as this could affect Hong Kong and Mainland markets tomorrow. Asian equities were mixed as Vietnam gained 1%, Hong Kong closed lower for the fourth consecutive day, and Mainland China took a breather after its market cap hit a 10-year high . Profit taking centered on growth stocks and sub-sectors, but Tencent (+0.94%) and electronics held up well, aided by Premier Li's positive comments on domestic consumption. East Buy Holding was a notable decliner, dropping -20.89% in Hong Kong and -3.41% in Mainland China after reaching 52-week highs yesterday, reportedly on an unconfirmed rumor. Meanwhile, Mainland investors bought the Hong Kong dip in volume, with $2.38 billion in net buying, and strong flows into the Hong Kong Tracker ETF following Friday's $4.58 billion of net buying. The 1 and 3-Year Loan Prime Rates (LPRs), set at 3% and 3.5% respectively, are not expected to change; the 3-year rate remains the reference rate for mortgages. Diplomatic relations between India and China seem to be improving, as China has agreed to sell rare earths to India following Foreign Minister Wang Yi's visit. Having returned from a family holiday, I'm still shaking off the proverbial mental fog, although my wife insists that's a permanent state, and she's got plenty of evidence, too. I missed that Tong Cheng Travel reported Q2 financial results yesterday after the Hong Kong close, posting beats in revenue, adjusted net income, and adjusted earnings per share (EPS). It is worth noting that 2020 revenue was RMB 5.93 billion, and the 2025 revenue estimate is RMB 19.51 billion, yet the stock has only risen 35% over the past five years. This is fairly typical in our space, where revenues multiply but stock appreciation lags. Apple to Manufacture Full US-Bound iPhone 17 Lineup in India, Report Says
Apple (AAPL) is reportedly planning to make all four of the iPhone 17 models it will sell in the U.S. in India, the first time the company is making its latest lineup in the South Asian country. The iPhone 17 is due to debut next month. According to Bloomberg, citing people with knowledge of the matter, the tech giant is expanding its iPhone production in India at five factories, including two plants that were opened recently, and producing all four iPhone 17 models in the Asian nation. The India expansion is part of Apple's efforts to reduce its dependence on China for the phones it is selling in the U.S. While India faces an extra 25% levy for buying Russian oil on top of the 25% previously announced tariffs, consumer electronic imports into the U.S. are so far exempt from levies. Apple didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. Apple shares have lost almost 8% of their value since the start of the year amid worries about its stalling progress in artificial intelligence and the hit from the Trump administration's tariffs. They are little changed in premarket trading. Read the original article on Investopedia

Signs of thaw as the Indian and Chinese foreign ministers meet in New Delhi
NEW DELHI (AP) — The foreign ministers of India and China met in New Delhi on Monday in a renewed effort by the nuclear-armed Asian rivals to ease tensions after a five-year border standoff significantly hurt relations. India's foreign minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, welcomed Wang Yi for talks aimed at stabilizing relations that plunged in 2020 after security forces clashed along the disputed Himalayan border. The violence, the worst in decades, left 20 Indian soldiers and four Chinese soldiers dead, freezing high-level political engagements. Since then, the two sides have deployed tens of thousands of security forces in border areas. Last year, India and China agreed to a pact on border patrols and withdrew additional forces from some border areas. Jaishankar in opening remarks Monday called for deescalation of border tensions to give positive momentum to bilateral ties. 'Having seen a difficult period in our relationship, our two nations now seek to move ahead. This requires a candid and constructive approach from both sides,' Jaishankar said. Wang said there has been peace and tranquility along the borders and China has allowed Indian pilgrims to visit some key places in the Tibet autonomous region. The Chinese foreign minister is scheduled to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday and hold talks with Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval about the disputed border. Reducing the number of troops there is expected to be on the agenda. Wang's India visit coincides with friction between New Delhi and Washington after U.S. President Donald Trump imposed a 50% tariff on Indian goods, which includes a penalty of 25% for purchasing Russian crude oil. The tariffs take effect Aug. 27. Solve the daily Crossword
