The body parts were first discovered on June 9, just days after Pina posted her last video on TikTok to her 5,000 followers. Forensic teams identified her remains through several distinctive tattoos, including one on her back that read 'Paula Sophia' along with a date. Some of her body parts remain missing, according to reports by Panamericana and Infobae.
'She never told us she was leaving. She just left, and that was it,' a relative told La Republica, highlighting the family's shock and grief over her disappearance and tragic end.
According to Infobae, Pina had left her home country of Venezuela as a minor to live in Peru with her then-boyfriend, Meiner Jimenez Castillo. In 2022, Castillo died by suicide in Lima. However, his family had allegedly harassed Pina online, accusing her of being connected to his death — claims that were never substantiated.
The Peruvian National Police have described the brutality of Pina's murder as being consistent with methods used by human trafficking networks, and they are exploring that angle as part of their investigation. So far, no suspects have been formally named or arrested in connection with the case.
Pina's death has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice, with many demanding greater protection for women, particularly migrant and online personalities, vulnerable to both virtual and real-world threats.
In June, Zaria Khadejah Carr, a 27-year-old social media influencer, was found dead at her home in Twin City, Georgia. She had 35,000 followers on Facebook. Hours before her death, she went live on Facebook asking for help. The social media influencer was known as Duchess Dior.

According to police, Shanta got in touch with an agent who helped her get fake Indian documents. These documents showed that she was living in India and had Indian citizenship. Using these, she allegedly started a car rental business by pretending to be a local resident. Reportedly, Paul has won several modelling contests in Bangladesh and had been living at a rented apartment in Bijoygarh, Jadavpur, since 2023. According to investigators, she frequently shifted addresses and lived under different identities. Her involvement in the app-cab business reportedly brought her under the scanner. She was caught in Bikramgarh in connection with a cheating case. During their investigation, Kolkata Police found two Aadhaar cards (with different addresses: one from East Burdwan and another from Kolkata), along with a voter ID and a ration card. A case of cheating and criminal conspiracy has been registered against her. According to police, these social media posts were part of a carefully planned act to make herself look like an Indian citizen. Police are now trying to identify the people who helped her get these documents. Officers also told PTI that her social media account included photos where she accused a man of holding both an Aadhaar card and proof of being a Bangladeshi, possibly to mislead or divert attention from herself. In 2019, Paul participated in the Miss Asia Global competition held in Kerala. In earlier media interviews in North Bengal, she said she was working in Bengali and Telugu films.

BENGALURU: Following the arrest of a 30-year-old woman from Hebbal by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) for allegedly having links with a terror module linked to Al-Qaeda, Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara on Thursday said the investigating agency has not shared any information on this. The Gujarat ATS arrested Shama Parveen Ansari, who had been staying in Bengaluru for the last three years, on Tuesday. Shama has been booked under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act Terrorist Act, and BNS. 'The woman alleged to have links with the Al-Qaeda network is not from Karnataka. The Gujarat ATS which arrested her has not shared any information. There were previous reports that sleeper cells are active in Bengaluru and the investigating agencies had found them,' the minister said. 'The accused, allegedly involved in manufacturing MDMA, arrived in Mysuru about 20 days ago. When one of the accused was caught in Mumbai, leads from that arrest led the police here. Even in our state, when such cases come to light, our police go to other states to arrest the accused. This is a standard procedure followed across the country,' the minister added. The ATS, along with support from local police, raided Shama's house and seized multiple digital devices. Shama, a graduate who was unemployed, was staying with her younger brother, a software engineer. She is alleged to have been a key conspirator and handling social media accounts by posting information related to radical ideology. She is accused of organising activities from Karnataka. She reportedly shared extremist videos linked to Al-Qaeda operatives on social media platforms, especially Instagram, from the house in Hebbal. She was sharing provocative and violent content, including jihadi videos and messages. The officials found out that she was running two Facebook pages and an Instagram account with nearly 10,000 followers. She was reportedly posting content related to radicalisation of youths towards terrorism.
