Delhi begins ban on fuel sale to old vehicles; AI cameras, traffic police teams deployed at pumps
The Delhi government has installed Automatic Number Plate reader cameras (ANPR) at nearly 350 petrol pumps across the national capital for detection of such vehicles.
The transport department has chalked out a detailed deployment plan involving personnel from its organisation, Delhi Police, Traffic Police and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
Multiple teams of transport department, traffic police and local police have been deployed at different petrol pumps in South Delhi.
The drive began from 6 am on Tuesday, enforcing the prohibition of fuel sale to petrol vehicles older than 15 years and diesel vehicles older than 10 years.
At Chirag Delhi's Dhingra petrol pump, the Transport Enforcement and Delhi Traffic Police teams were seen stationed since early morning.
"We are here from 6 am to ensure that no old vehicle is allowed to refuel. Petrol pumps have been directed to deny fuel to such vehicles," said Sub-Inspector Dharamveer of the Transport Enforcement team.
He said that Artificial Intelligence-powered cameras and automated hooter systems have also been installed at the pump to identify old vehicles.

The suspect, who was seen driving at a very high speed both before and after he targeted the MP, then flees towards South Delhi's Moti Bagh. Police suspect he came from the same direction before he committed the crime. Delhi police nabs 2 for murder of transgender woman
Delhi Police Crime Branch arrested two accused in the murder case of a eunuch at Madhu Vihar area on Monday. The accused have been identified as Soniya (34), a resident of Delhi's Alipur, and her partner Rohit, a resident of Jagi village in Sonipat.(Representational) According to Delhi Police, on Monday, a PCR call regarding the stabbing of a transgender person was received at PS Madhu Vihar. The team reached the spot under the bridge at Telco T-point towards Hasanpur and found a person lying dead with a slit throat. The deceased has been identified as Karan alias Annu, resident of Khichripur, Delhi, aged about 25 years. The deceased, a eunuch by gender identity, was presently residing in Village Chilla. One child in conflict with the law (CCL) was also apprehended at the scene. The involvement and exact role of the CCL is currently under investigation. In the initial investigation, it was found that the eunuch and the accused are known to each other, owing to some personal issue, which seems to be a relationship; they killed her. A case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) is being registered. Further investigation is in progress. Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Delhi Crime Branch has solved a year-old blind murder case with the arrest of a woman and her boyfriend for conspiring to kill her husband and disposing of his body in Haryana's Sonipat, officials informed on Sunday. The accused have been identified as Soniya (34), a resident of Delhi's Alipur, and her partner Rohit, a resident of Jagi village in Sonipat. Officials said that during the investigation, the last active location of Printam's phone was traced to Jaji village in Sonipat. Cyber fraud syndicate busted in Delhi; 5 held for duping people by posing as bank officials

New Delhi, Aug 5 (PTI) The Delhi Police has busted a syndicate for allegedly cheating people by posing as bank employees and offering credit card rewards, officials said on Tuesday. Five people have been arrested in the case. The caller informed the complainant of partial details of his credit card and convinced him to share OTPs in the name of reward point redemption. The money was then fraudulently transferred through a mobile application into the accused's bank account, a police officer said. 'They would collect the credit card details and OTP from unsuspecting victims and transfer the defrauded money through mule bank accounts,' the officer said. 'A case was registered and an investigation was taken up. It was found that the defrauded amount was settled in a bank account and later diverted to another bank before being withdrawn. CCTV footage from ATMs showed one accused withdrawing cash with his face covered,' the officer added. Following a raid at a location in Mohan Garden, police arrested three of the accused — Atul Kumar, Sunny Kumar Singh and Kaushal Kumar. A search of the premises led to the recovery of multiple bank account kits, stamps of different firms, mobile phones and other digital gadgets. 'During interrogation, it was revealed that Kaushal Kumar, a former private bank employee, was responsible for opening multiple mule accounts. He had taken a rented premises in Mohan Garden, where he facilitated the creation of current and savings accounts. These accounts were then provided to cyber criminals through a woman who was also later arrested,' he added. Sunny Kumar Singh, a final-year CA student, helped create GST and Udyam certificates as well as email IDs for opening accounts. Atul Kumar, in whose name the firm was registered, held three bank accounts used in the fraud. The fifth accused, Md Ahmad, who previously worked in call centres, was identified as the key caller impersonating bank officials. He had been absconding and was wanted in another cyber fraud case registered earlier this year. Ahmad was arrested based on the inputs provided during interrogation. 'All accused, Md Ahmad, Kaushal Kumar, Atul Kumar, Sunny Kumar Singh, and the woman, have been arrested and further investigation is underway,' said the officer.
