Home and Away fans heartbroken as star quits show after 32 years
Home and Away star Lynne McGranger has left fans devastated after announcing she's leaving the show.
The actor, 72, who has played Irene Roberts on the soap since January 1993 after taking over from Jacqy Phillips, is set to leave the show later this year.
McGranger will instead embark on a nationwide Australian tour of the comedy musical The Grandparents Club, alongside Andrew James, Meredith O'Reilly and Wayne Scott Kermond.
Announcing the news of her Home and Away departure on Instagram, McGranger said: 'After almost 33 years in my dream role and working everyday with people who I love, respect and whom I now consider family, it's bittersweet to be closing the chapter on what has been the best and longest gig of my life.'
She continued: 'I am forever grateful to the best production crew in the world and to our genius writers – whose doors are always open – for everything they have done for Irene over the past 33-odd years.'
McGranger added: 'I am so proud of the storyline which will see Irene out of the Bay. Above all, a massive, heartfelt thank you to the fans for your continued love and support.'
Fans were quick to react to the news of the soap star's exit in the Instagram comments. 'Such [an] icon on the show, thank you from all us fans for giving us so many amazing memories of Irene in the bay!' one person wrote.

Meanwhile, another user added: 'This is such a devastating loss. I would love to thank you for bringing the courage and life to the character of Irene! She is sooo loved.'
Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, McGranger reflected on her decision to leave the soap. 'It's kind of been in my head for a few years,' she admitted.
'I thought, I've still got my health, my fitness, and I would like to branch out again and do some more theatre, maybe a bit of radio, a bit of stand-up comedy.'
She added: 'I'm not going to live forever, particularly if I keep doing 14-hour days. You get a bit tired, you need your sleep, if you have a bad night's sleep, you will pay the price the next day. My body isn't as resilient as it once was.'
McGranger joked: 'You either leave voluntarily or leave in a box by the time you're my age.'

After receiving expressions of what he described as being of both "support and hatred" over the weekend, Bobby doubled down on his message with an Instagram post Sunday, stating, "I said what I said." But the BBC is expressing regret over sharing the duo's festival performance with a global audience. "Millions of people tuned in to enjoy Glastonbury this weekend across the BBC's output but one performance within our live-streams included comments that were deeply offensive. The BBC respects freedom of expression, but stands firmly against incitement to violence. The antisemitic sentiments expressed by Bob Vylan were utterly unacceptable and have no place on our airwaves. We welcome Glastonbury's condemnation of the performance," the BBC said in a lengthy statement Monday. "The performance was part of a live stream of the West Holts stage on BBC iPlayer. The judgment on Saturday to issue a warning on screen while streaming online was in line with our editorial guidelines. In addition, we took the decision not to make the performance available on demand. The team were dealing with a live situation but with hindsight we should have pulled the stream during the performance. We regret this did not happen," the statement continued. "In light of this weekend, we will look at our guidance around live events so we can be sure teams are clear on when it is acceptable to keep output on air."

Beyoncé Statement on Cowboy Carter Flying Car Malfunction
Beyoncé experienced a truly frightening moment during her Cowboy Carter Tour on Saturday night in Houston, when her flying car malfunctioned and she was left suspended in the air after nearly falling out. Bey ended up having to pause the show, saying "stop" repeatedly into her microphone in order the cut the music. The crew then spent several minutes trying to safely lower the vehicle and get Bey out. She later joked, "If I ever fall, I know y'all would catch me" and kept performing. It's unclear what went wrong with the car, but Beyoncé's team released a statement amid concern from fans, saying in an Instagram Story "Tonight in Houston, at NRG Stadium, a technical mishap caused the flying car, a prop Beyonce uses to circle the stadium, and see her fans up close, to tilt. She was quickly lowered and no one was injured. The show continued without incident." Meanwhile, Beyoncé hasn't spoke out further about the moment—but she did include a pic her her photo roundup of the show on Instagram. Oh, and she also went ahead and dropped this!
