Oman eye to secure winning start against Vietnam
MUSCAT: The Oman beach soccer team is all set to commence their Asian campaign at AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup Thailand 2025. The national team players will meet Vietnam in the Group D opener on Friday. The match will start at 2 pm (Oman Time) at Jomtien Beach Arena in Pattaya, Thailand. In the same group, Bahrain will take on Malaysia.
Oman's long-serving coach, Talib Hilal, will aim to secure a winning start and get much closer to book spot in the quarterfinals. In their eighth Asian appearance, Oman team players will target to rekindle their memories of 2015 as the team was crowned champions of the AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup. Furthermore, Oman were also silver medallists at the Asian Beach Soccer Cup in 2011 besides winning bronze medals in 2009 and 2019. Under technical guidance of coach Talib, the national team won a gold medal in the Asian Beach Games in 2008. Oman had reached Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup five times in history.

Ahead of the opening match in the Asian Cup, Oman stunned hosts Thailand 7-2 in a friendly match as part of the team's short external camp in Thailand. Oman team delegation arrived in Pattaya few days in advance of the tournament. Khalid al Oraimi, Abdullah al Souti, Sami al Balushi, Yahya al Murkhi and Mashal al Oraimi netted Oman's goals in the warm-up match against Thailand.
Oman's squad selected by coach Talib is one of the strong squads as majority of the players are playing together since the last few years. Hence, the harmony and technical understanding among the players reached to its perfect level.
Oman are very eager to secure a place in the Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup in Seychelles as the Asian showpiece will also offer three tickets to the global stage in May.

On the other hand, Vietnam head coach Mai Van Duc affirmed to AFC website that the team currently is following a set plan. 'The squad has been selected after extensive training sessions and several friendly matches. The team will look to make their mark as the weeks of meticulous preparation will yield positive results. We have spent time perfecting the strengths of each player, from their technical game to their psychological resilience,' said Van Duc.
'We have been placed in a group with several strong teams. Oman is a good team and has experience in the World Cup, but we also have our own plan. We will try to make things difficult for them and capitalise on our opportunities to win and qualify for the next round,' he added.

Oman's World Cup hopes remain alive as they hold Palestine to reach playoffs
Muscat: A ten-man Oman's booked their spot in the playoffs of the AFC Asian Qualifiers - Road to 26 Group B as they scraped to a 1-1 draw against Palestine at the King Abdullah Stadium in Amman, Jordan, on Tuesday night. Issam Al Subhi converted a penalty in the injury time to earn a much needed single point to help them reach the fourth round along with Iraq after trailing Palestine for most part of second half. Earlier, Oday Kharoub's powerful header in the 49th minute got Palestine the lead but a never-say-die spirit of Rasheed Jaber-coached Red Warriors' earned them a playoff spot. With thr draw Oman finished with 11 points while Palestine ended with 10 points. Oman went into the match, needing just a draw to advance into the playoffs, thus ended their campaign with 11 points. South Korea (22 points) and Jordan (16) booked direct spots for the 2026 FIFA World Cup from Group B while Iraq (15) and Oman advanced to the playoffs as third and fourth placed teams from the group. For Oman, it was a memorable comeback defeat after they lost 3-0 to Jordan at home last week. Oman escaped an early scare when a header from Palestine player hit the woodwork in the fourth minute of the match. Munther Al Alawi of Oman had the best chance in the first half as he darted into the box dangerously only to find a defender make a last minute save. Both the teams failed to find the target till thr break but Palestine broke the deadlock soon after resumption when off a corner kick, Kharoub's header beat the Oman defence and goalkeeper Faiz Al Rusheidi. Oman tried hard to find the much-needed equaliser but their efforts suffered a blow in the 73rd minute when the experienced midfielder Harib Al Saadi was given marching orders by the Iranian referee for a tackle that earned him his second yellow card. Down by a man, Oman continued to put pressure on Palestine but the equaliser remained elusive till the last minute of the injury time when they earned a spot kick after Oman's Mohsin Al Ghassani was brought down inside the box by Palestine's Ahmad Taha.

Kamada hits double as Japan thrash Indonesia 6-0
OSAKA, Japan: Crystal Palace forward Daichi Kamada scored twice as Japan rounded off their successful World Cup qualifying campaign with a 6-0 thrashing of Patrick Kluivert's Indonesia in Osaka on Tuesday. Kamada, an FA Cup winner with Palace in England this season, struck twice in the first half as already qualified Japan finished the campaign as Group C winners, scoring 30 goals in their 10 matches. Oman set for crucial Palestine test in 2026 World Cup qualifiers
Amman, Jordan – Oman will face Palestine on Tuesday in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifier, with a place in the next round at stake. The match will kick off at 10:15 pm Oman time at the King Abdullah Stadium in Amman, Jordan. A draw or a win will be enough for Oman to advance to the Asian play-offs for the tournament, which will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Speaking at a press conference in Amman, head coach Rashid Jaber said his team was focused on securing three points. 'We are playing against a team with good players, and our goal is to collect the three points that will qualify us to participate in the Asian play-offs for the 2026 World Cup,' he said. 'The match is important and requires effort.' Oman defeated Palestine 1-0 in the first leg held at the Sultan Qaboos Complex in Bausher during the fifth round of Group Two matches in the third stage of Asian qualifying.
