Man charged with allegedly shooting, seriously injuring man in West Ridge neighborhood
Aung Kyaw, 22, was arrested on Wednesday in the 6300 block of North Western Avenue. He was charged with two felony counts of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery with discharge of a firearm.
Chicago police said Kyaw was identified as the suspect who allegedly shot the 31-year-old victim in the 2300 block of West Devon Avenue just 40 minutes earlier.
He was quickly placed into custody, at which time a weapon was recovered, police said.
Kyaw is scheduled to appear in court on Saturday.

Murder probe rules out that others 'came to harm'
Detectives investigating a woman's death have said they believe reports two other people had "come to harm" during the incident were not correct. Officers were initially called to reports of an armed robbery at Asda in Dewsbury at about 21:20 BST on Saturday, and they arrested a 37-year-old man and seized a knife. West Yorkshire Police said he told them there was a dead woman at a house in Batley. The body of a woman, believed to be in her 20s, was subsequently found in Norfolk Street, and the man was arrested on suspicion of murder. Officers initially said they were making inquiries into the welfare of a man and a woman in Dewsbury, but in an update said reports they had been harmed were "not accurate". The arrested man remains in custody, police said. The force said: "Work is ongoing to formally identify the deceased and a 37-year-old man from Batley remains in custody. "Enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances of what has happened, but officers would like to reassure the local community that there is not believed to be any wider risk to the public at this time." Mum pleads guilty to manslaughter of toddler who died after being found in pond
A woman has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of her two-year-old daughter, who died after being found in a pond. Alice Mackey, 42, admitted killing Annabel Mackey in Kingsley, Hampshire, in September 2023. The two-year-old went missing from her home on 10 September. She was found a short time later unresponsive at Kingsley Pond. Annabel was taken to hospital in a serious condition, but died the following afternoon. Mackey entered the plea at Winchester Crown Court. She entered a not guilty plea to a charge of murder, which the court heard was acceptable to the prosecution, as reports by two psychiatrists showed she was in a state of "diminished responsibility" at the time of the incident. Judge Christopher Parker KC adjourned the case for sentencing on 6 October. He remanded Mackey into custody until then.

Trump says he has not been asked to pardon Maxwell following Epstein interviews
US President Donald Trump has said he has not been asked to pardon disgraced British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell following her 'truthful' answers to government questions about sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Maxwell was found guilty in December 2021 of luring young girls to massage rooms for paedophile financier Epstein to molest between 1994 and 2004. The US Department of Justice met with the 63-year-old convicted sex-trafficker last week – interviews in which her lawyer David Markus said his client would 'testify truthfully'. The US government faced a backlash from Mr Trump's support base following words from Attorney General Pam Bondi that there was no evidence Epstein had a 'client list'. Following the criticisms, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche met with Maxwell over the course of two days – with Mr Blanche saying: 'No-one is above the law and no lead is off-limits.' Mr Markus previously said the disgraced socialite had not been offered a pardon as part of the interview process. In a short statement ahead of the meetings, the lawyer said: 'I can confirm that we are in discussions with the government and that Ghislaine will always testify truthfully. 'We are grateful to President Trump for his commitment to uncovering the truth in this case.' Questioned on whether he had been asked to pardon Maxwell, the US President told reporters on Monday: 'Well, I'm allowed to give her a pardon, but nobody's approached me with it. Nobody's asked me about it. 'It's in the news – that aspect of it – but right now, it would be inappropriate to talk about it.' During her three-week trial in 2021, jurors heard prosecutors describe Maxwell as 'dangerous', and were told details of how she helped entice vulnerable teenagers to Epstein's various properties for him to sexually abuse. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison at the federal court in the southern district of New York (SDNY) in June 2022. Epstein was found dead in his cell at a federal jail in Manhattan in August 2019 while he awaited trial on sex trafficking charges. The death was ruled a suicide.
