A-list actor 'to play secret Glastonbury set' after clinching Oscar nomination

Metro07-05-2025

A major Hollywood star is reportedly set to play a surprise set at the 2025 Glastonbury Festival.
The A-List actor, recently nominated for their second Oscar, is not one who had previously revealed musical activity outside their film performances (so no, it's not Gladiator star Russell Crowe, who did Glasto last year with his band).
However, since Timothée Chalamet wowed critics and fans alike with his performance as music icon Bob Dylan in the biopic A Complete Unknown – which was up for eight Academy Awards – this rumour may now come as less of a surprise.
According to The Sun, 28-year-old Chalamet is 'likely' to perform away on the Acoustic Stage on Saturday night.
The publication claims he will appear alongside Dylan tribute band Not Completely Unknown.
Further fuel has been added to the fire of speculation by the fact the Glastonbury website bills the act as appearing 'with special guests'.
Fans have also been swayed by the suggestion this could be Chalamet, especially given his love of the 'side quest', such as appearing at his own lookalike competition.
On TikTok, @russfestivalfriend also discussed the possibility, with fans in the comments posting: 'I'm very into this theory.'
'Thought the same when I saw the Acoustic Stage lineup! Imagine!' added @cleogreaves540.
Chalamet, after singing for 2023 musical movie Wonka, performed Dylan's songs himself for A Complete Unknown, alongside playing the guitar and harmonica – and gaining weight.
He also performed over 40 songs live on set for the film's soundtrack – alongside co-stars Edward Norton (Pete Seeger), Boyd Holbrook (Johnny Cash) and Monica Barbaro (Joan Baez) – rather than rely on pre-recorded tracks.
'It was important for me to sing and play live. Because if I can actually do it, why should there be an element of artifice here?' the star explained during a featurette ahead of the film's release.
'And I'm proud that we took that leap.'
The Dune star previously performed a selection of Dylan songs on Saturday Night Live in the US alongside musician James Blake.
He picked Outlaw Blues, Three Angels and Tomorrow is a Long Time.
While he missed out on netting an Oscar for his turn as the Blowin' in the Wind legend, now 83, Chalamet did pick up a SAG award in January, where he revealed he was 'in pursuit of greatness' in terms of his career, name-checking the likes of Marlon Brando, Daniel Day-Lewis and Viola Davis.
Dylan himself gave Chalamet his stamp of approval, taking to social media site X with a rare statement to praise him as 'a brilliant actor'. More Trending
'I'm sure he's going to be completely believable as me. Or a younger me. Or some other me,' he added.
Elsewhere for Glastonbury this year, Rizzle Kicks accidentally leaked their performance ahead of official announcement during an appearance on Arsenal's YouTube channel (and they're not the only act to do so).
Confirmed headliners for this year include The 1975, Neil Young and Olivia Rodrigo, while Charli XCX, Doechii, Kaiser Chiefs, The Libertines and Fatboy Slim will all be taking to the festival's stages as well.
Metro has contacted Chalamet's reps for comment.
