LSU baseball hosts one of the transfer portal's top prospects on a visit

USA Today10-07-2025
LSU baseball could add another transfer to its summer haul. According to reports on Wednesday, right-handed pitcher Cooper Moore is on an official visit in Baton Rouge.
The rising junior spent two seasons at Kansas. In 14 starts as a sophomore, Moore pitched 88.2 innings and ended with a 3.96 ERA along with 85 strikeouts. He earned a spot on the All-Big 12 second team.
Moore made 29 appearances out of the bullpen as a true freshman. His versatility as a reliever and a weekend starter makes him an attractive prospect for head coach Jay Johnson's pitching staff.
LSU gained commitments from multiple lefties following the national championship win but it's always great to add an experienced arm. The Tigers are losing their best two starters in Kade Anderson and Anthony Eyanson so they'll need reinforcements to compete in the offseason.
Moore joined the Jayhawks as Oklahoma's No. 10 prospect, per Prep Baseball Report. He picked them over a host of Power Four offers, including Oklahoma and Missouri.

Dante Moore looking to increase speed, rushing for Oregon Ducks in 2025

The Oregon Ducks have a long history of producing elite quarterbacks. More than that, though, they've had a history of QBs who could get out and run when needed. With Dillon Gabriel now off to the NFL, though, and Dante Moore or Austin Novosad stepping in, there was a thought that might change. Across 14 games of action in his first two years of college football, Moore has recorded a grand total of -78 rushing yards. The negative numbers came during his time as the UCLA Bruins' signal-caller for nine games in 2023, as he was marked down with 45 carries for -84 yards. A majority of those yards came on sacks, however, as he recorded a long rush of 16 yards. In a backup role for the Ducks in 2024, Moore recorded a single carry for six yards. Now, in a quarterback battle against Novosad, Moore cited his increase in speed as something he was satisfied with this offseason. "I had a great off-summer," he said, speaking Oregon's 2025 Media Day. "I really got my body right. I actually hit my goal for the summer. Coach [Wilson] Love and Coach Bolt [Kyle Bolton] made sure I got my speed up and hit my goal. I'm really excited. I'm excited to show what I can do with my feet." What was that speed goal, though? "My goal was to hit 21 miles per hour, and I hit 21.5," Moore revealed. "I was super excited about it. It made me happy. I almost cried." While Moore may not reach the dual-threat abilities of Oregon quarterback legend Marcus Mariota, if he can come close to the rushing levels that Bo Nix (744 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns from 2022-23) and Dillon Gabriel (149 rushing yards and seven touchdowns in 2024) produced, it would greatly diversify and further raise the ceiling of the offense. Moore is up for the challenge, and after an offseason of work, can add to the offense in ways he previously hadn't been able to. Seven LSU football players earn preseason All-SEC honors at media days

Seven LSU football players made the AP's preseason All-SEC team, announced Friday. Whit Weeks leads the pack as a first-teamer. Garrett Nussmeier, Caden Durham, Aaron Anderson, Harold Perkins, Barion Brown and Zavion Thomas all earned second-team honors. Weeks led the team with 125 tackles, adding in 10 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. He's poised for another strong season following a lower-body injury in the Kinder's Texas Bowl. Heading into his second season starting at quarterback, Nussmeier is gunning for the program's all-time passing mark, which currently stands at 9,115. Last year, he threw for 4,052 yards with 29 touchdowns. Durham is coming off an All-SEC freshman season. He picked up 1,013 total yards and averaged 9.3 yards per carry. Despite dealing with a lingering toe injury, he developed into a versatile weapon. As a sophomore, he'll be the Tigers' feature back to balance out an improved passing game. Anderson made the cut as a wide receiver. He returns as a veteran presence in Baton Rouge amongst a host of transfers and freshmen. The redshirt junior made 61 catches for 884 yards in 2024. Following an injury-plagued 2024, Perkins returns to lead a retooled defense alongside Weeks. The linebacker made 17 tackles through four games last year before sitting out. He'll bounce between linebacker and the STAR position in defensive coordinator Blake Baker's scheme in 2025. Brown and Thomas appeared on the team as return specialists. They'll look to take up important roles on the offense as receivers as well, but both are apart of LSU's renewed focus on special teams success. Two former LSU wide receivers named to NFL's top 100 players list after rookie years

Former LSU wide receivers Brian Thomas Jr. and Malik Nabers cracked top 100 players list. The pair checked in at No. 61 and No. 67, respectively. Both are coming off rookie seasons in which they garnered support for the offensive rookie of the year honor. In the 2024 NFL Draft, Nabers went No. 6 overall to the New York Giants while Thomas went No. 23 overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Thomas played and started in 17 games and averaged 14.7 yards per reception. He set franchise rookie records with 87 receptions, 1,282 receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns en route to earning a Pro Bowl selection. His receiving yards and touchdowns led all rookies in 2024. Despite dealing with a revolving door at quarterback, Nabers became a consistent talent for the Giants. In 15 games, he totaled 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns on 109 receptions. He averaged 11 yards per catch.
