Sebi bars Rajkot-based stock broker, 4 directors from market for order spoofing
In market parlance, order spoofing is an illegal and deceptive practice wherein one places a trade order with the intent to cancel it before execution and simultaneously executes trades on the opposite side, leading to price manipulation.
The regulator in an order noted that PWA continued to indulge in unfair trade practices despite repeated show-cause notices and initial proceedings by the NSE.
In an ex-parte interim order, the Sebi directed to impound `3.22 crore illegal gains made by them. Sebi said it will undertake a probe into the matter. PWA claims to be in operations for 25 years and its four directors banned by the regulator are Denish Maheshbhai Patel, Mitul Umedlal Vora, Kaushal Vasantrai Patel and Minish Maheshbhai Patel. 'Order spoofing is a manipulative, fraudulent and unfair trade practice employed by PWA to deceive other market participants and profit from price fluctuations they induced on unwary investors. This practice distorts prices and undermines efficiency of market,' noted Sebi whole-time member Kamlesh Varshney in the 41-page interim order. It found PWA was involved in spoofing activity in both cash and derivatives segments across 173 scrips between January 2021 and January 2025. Their activity resulted in 621 unique spoofing instances. At its peak, PWA's phantom orders constituted 90% of pending order book in certain stocks, an indicator of the extent of market distortion.

Tiruvannamalai Corporation to donate non-biodegradable waste for road-laying works
As part of its green initiative, Tiruvannamalai Corporation is all set to donate its accumulated 250 tonnes of non-biodegradable waste, mostly plastic waste like PET bottles, from Monday onwards to use for road laying works. Officials of Tiruvannamalai Corporation, who have spearheaded the initiative, said that a Coimbatore-based Startup has signed an MoU with the Corporation to collect untreated non-biodegradable wastes from Micro Compost Centres (MCC) of the civic body free of cost. Donated plastic waste by the corporation will be used by the startup for road-laying works in the Coimbatore region. 'The first shipment of plastic waste will be given to the startup on Monday. Thereafter, the private firm will take the collected plastic waste from MCCs at least once a week on its own. It helps us to make the town much cleaner as the total volume of waste to landfill will be minimal,' S. Selva Balaji, Commissioner, Tiruvannamalai Corporation, told The Hindu. As per the plan, accumulated plastic waste at MCCs, which are located at the centre of the town, will be safely disposed of by the Startup in the coming days. Each MCC, on an average, spreads over 2,000 sq ft and covers at least 4,000 households, covering four wards within the corporation limits, which comprises 39 wards. Every day, on an average, 65-70 tonnes of waste are generated in the town. Of this, around 20 tonnes of waste is plastic waste, mostly PET bottles. Each ward has 60-70 streets with around 400 households and a capacity of 300 kg of garbage generation. Corporation officials said regular disposal of plastic wastes will provide more space at MCCs to treat biowastes into organic manure for farmers in surrounding villages. Initially, the project will be implemented in the core areas of the town before extending it to more areas. The civic body was expanded into a corporation in January 2025 by merging 18 surrounding villages.

CBI busts call centre racket in Igatpuri resort
Mumbai: CBI busted an illegal call centre racket operating from a rented premise at a resort in Igatpuri on Friday, arresting five Mumbai-based individuals and recovering Rs 1.2 crore in unaccounted cash, 500 gm of gold and seven luxury cars collectively worth Rs 1 crore. The accused duped their victims by introducing themselves as a customer care centre of an e-commerce website. The arrested individuals — Vishal Yadav, Shebaz, Durgesh, Abhay Raj alias Raja, and Sameer alias Kalia-Sohail, targeted US and Canadian citizens by posing as policemen and committing cyber fraud. They had recruited 62 people to work in the call centre. During the search, CBI recovered 44 laptops, 71 mobile phones and other incriminating digital evidence for examination and found transactions amounting to around 5,000 USDT cryptocurrency (Rs 5 lakhs) and 2,000 Canadian dollar worth gift vouchers (Rs 1.3 lakh). Railway budget for Karnataka jumped nearly ninefold under Modi: Ashwini Vaishnaw
Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw on Sunday highlighted a sharp rise in budgetary allocation for Karnataka's railway projects since 2014, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the change. Addressing a gathering after Mr. Modi inaugurated the Yellow Line of Namma Metro here on Sunday, Mr. Vaishnaw said that Karnataka had been receiving only about ₹835 crore annually for railway works prior to 2014. 'Under Mr. Modi's leadership, this allocation has surged to ₹7,500 crore. At present, projects worth ₹54,000 crore are under way across the State,' he said. He added that 61 railway stations in the State are being modernised under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, aimed at upgrading passenger amenities and infrastructure.
