Sitaare Zameen Par director RS Prasanna Interview: I would love to see more feel-good films
Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par marks the second Hindi film of RS Prasanna. He had earlier directed the Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017), which was a remake of his own 2013 quirky Tamil film, Kalyana Samayal Saadham. For Prasanna, working with Aamir for the film was like a dream. He recalls being moved by Aamir's films, be it Lagaan (2001) or Taare Zameen Par (2007). 'For me, cinema has always been from the point of view of the audience. I literally look up to cinema because I am the audience who sits in the front row. So, I never thought that one day I would get to direct Aamir sir after having seen all his films as an audience,' says the filmmaker.
Prasanna admits that it was difficult for him to remain objective during the film's shoot as he was so starstruck with Aamir. He met the superstar for the first time at his Mumbai home and was surprised with his humility. 'We were having food together sitting on the floor. Within fifteen minutes, I felt like, is it really Amir sir? He made me quite comfortable and was open to let me say anything to him,' he says.
It was also during these discussions about Sitaare Zameen Par, which is a remake of the 2018 Spanish film, Champions, that Prasanna would keep referencing Taare Zameen Par. 'I would keep torturing him with questions about Taare Zameen Par as to how certain scenes were filmed and how did the songs come in,' he says, adding that it was during the pre-production process that Aamir thought of aligning it with the 2007 film. 'One day, he said that Sitaare Zameen Par also belongs in the same emotional landscape. ' So why don't we make it sound similar to that? The audience also will know, what are they in for'. That's how it happened,' recalls Prasanna.

No SC order on vigilantes, it says state to act against violent acts
NEW DELHI: Supreme Court on Thursday refused to lay down guidelines or impose costs on a vigilante group threatening the release of Kamal Haasan-starrer 'Thug Life' in Karnataka and closed the proceedings, saying the state should act against anybody preventing the screening or resorting to violence. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now 'Thug Life' has not been released in Karnataka yet because of the threat of violence by those protesting against Haasan's remark about Tamil being the mother of Kannada. When the PIL petitioner said it was a state minister who had made a statement to whip up passions, the bench said, "It is unfortunate but after some lashing, the state has filed an affidavit. We hope better sense prevails and vigilante groups will never do it in future. Once the state has corrected itself and understood its duties and taken a conscious and wise decision to maintain law and order, there is no need to keep the matter pending. " When the petitioner continued to press for laying down guidelines to curb vigilante groups' threat of violence to stop release of censor board cleared films on diverse pretexts, state govt counsel D L Chidanand deftly drew the court's attention to the presence of the film's producer, Rajkamal Film International, and requested the bench to seek its view. For the producer, senior advocate Satish Parashar said though non-release of the film in Karnataka had cost the producer nearly Rs 30 crore, it was now satisfied with the state govt's stand and did not intend to pursue the petition, which was transferred to Supreme Court from Karnataka high court on Tuesday. Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC), through Udayan Jain, too said that though it was in negotiation with the producer to resolve the impasse arising from Haasan's statement on Kannada language, in view of the state's stand, it would not oppose release of the film in the state. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now It also questioned KFCC for seeking an apology from Haasan. For one of the intervenors, senior advocate Sanjay Nuli said language was a very emotive subject for the people of Karnataka and the actor should have exercised restraint rather than indulging in such publicity gimmicks on the eve of release of the film. The bench said, "If the actor devised the publicity strategy, you fell for it. You file a defamation suit against the actor, but cannot take the law into your hands."

'Sitaare Zameen Par' box office opening day analysis: The Aamir Khan starrer expected to open at Rs 7-8 crore; will it affect 'Housefull 5'? Trade experts discuss
Aamir Khan 's 'Sitaare Zameen Par' has now released in theatres and while the trailer got a decent response, it's the positive word of mouth that shall play a huge role in the film's box office fate. While one may usually expect a big Aamir Khan starrer to open with big numbers, this one is slightly different. It's made for a different audience and will grow eventually if the public reviews are good. As per the advance booking report of the film till Thursday night, the movie had sold about 81931 tickets and collected Rs 2.5 crore in the advance bookings, according to Sacnilk. Talking about the expectations from the film on day 1, trade expert Taran Adarsh told ETimes, "I think the start is not going to be like the typical Aamir Khan starrer that we used to see in the past. I think the film will start slow, but will depend on the word of mouth. The start may be in single digits and if the word of mouth is very good, then I think it should cross the double digits on day one, but as of now, it's looking like a single digit opening." He added, "This is a word of mouth film. This is not a Dhoom or 'Ghajini' that will open with a bang. Now, as I said, it all depends on the public reports. I think Rs 7.5 to 8 crore is what we are looking at." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like One of the Most Successful Investors of All Time, Warren Buffett, Recommends: 5 Books for Turning... Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Click Here Undo Film trade expert Girish Wankhede said, "'Sitaara Zameen Par' doesn't look like a massive film. It looks typical, classy, elite film for the high-end, multiplex cutout. So, the way regular Aamir Khan films like PK, Dangal, performs, this one won't do that way. Secondly, it is not a huge release. Instead of marketing, they are more invested in showcasing the characters with various has not touched the masses. Third thing is, there are no great songs. So, my expectation of the very first day is around 7 to 8 crores, which is very less compared to all the Aamir Khan releases. If the word of mouth is stronger, then it can just go out of the roof on Friday and Sunday." Talking about the weekend numbers expected, in case the word of mouth is good, Wankhede adds, "At this moment, I can say that this film would not do more than 30-35 crores in the weekend, which is not a great number." Lesser screens for ' Housefull 5 ' At the moment, 'Housefull 5' starring Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh , Abhishek Bachchan among others is dominating at the box office. It collected Rs 2.75 crore on Thursday which was day 14. The second week collection of the movie is now Rs 40 crore. The total collection of the movie so far is Rs 168 crore. But with the release of 'Sitaare Zameen Par', the number of screens for 'Housefull 5' will reduce. Taran Adarsh says, "Yes, that is going to be less. But in single screens, I think this film Housefull 5 will still be there. But major shows in multiplexes will be 'Sitaare Zameen Par'." However, Wankhede feels that since the genres of both are different, it won't get affected. "Moreover, 'Housefull 5' is already beginning to steam out," he said. If 'Sitaare Zameen Par' gets positive word of mouth, the film will have the entire week to find a place for itself at the box office. On June 27, Kajol starrer mythological thriller 'Maa' releases on screen which will give competition to 'Sitaare Zameen Par'.
