Omar Abdullah's Cryptic 'Severus Snape' Post Amid J&K Statehood Speculation Gets Internet's Attention

Last Updated: J&K CM Omar Abdullah's Harry Potter post on X got the internet talking, with many asking him the meaning behind the cryptic meme while others asked Grok to help Amid speculation over statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah set the internet ablaze by sharing a Harry Potter meme on Tuesday. Featuring the character of Potions master Severus Snape from the beloved series, the text accompanying the visuals said: 'Please I can't take anymore of this." Abdullah's post on X got the internet talking, with many asking him the meaning behind the cryptic meme while others asked the AI, Grok, to explain what it is about. 🫣 — Omar Abdullah (@OmarAbdullah) August 19, 2025 'Statehood?" one user asked while another said: 'No statehood. Sit down and enjoy the mayorship." (sic) One user asked: 'Why other CMs are not as cool as him ?". Another said: 'No statehood bt administration rules." (sic) At the time of writing this report, Abdullah did not clarify what his post was about, further fuelling speculation especially since it came shortly after at least two media outlets reported that the central government could move a Bill related to J&K's statehood in Parliament on Wednesday (August 20). On August 5, 2019, the Union government split the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) into two union territories – Jammu and Kashmir with a legislative assembly, and Ladakh without one. The government and top ministers have said J&K statehood will be restored when the time is right. The Supreme Court, too, had asked the government to restore J&K's statehood at the earliest. It had earlier upheld the Centre's August 5 decision to nullify Article 370, which gave special status to the region. The restoration of statehood and special status is an emotive issue in J&K, and several political parties and activists in the Kashmir valley have been vocal in their demand to roll back the milestone move that made international headlines and sparked protests. Last year, in an election held after a decade, the National Conference-Congress alliance came to power in J&K. Omar Abdullah of the NC has called for the early restoration of statehood. 'PAID A POLITICAL PRICE' A few days ago, in a fiery Independence Day speech, Abdullah said he was paying a political price for pinning his hopes on India's democracy and the Centre for restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's rights, including statehood. He said he took a big political risk when he took a stand that J&K will get whatever it needs from democracy and that nothing can be achieved through a confrontation with the government. 'Probably, I have paid a political price for it," he said, referring to recent speculation that statehood reinstatement will be announced on Independence Day. He said though he did not have much expectations, he was led to believe that it might happen after all. 'I had no expectations but I was being constantly told that the documents are ready and now just the announcement is to be made. But the announcement never came. The ray of hope is fading, but we will not give up," he added. Click here to add News18 as your preferred news source on Google. Play ‘depicting burqa-clad women as terrorists' at I-Day event in Gujarat school kicks up a row

A play staged during the Independence Day programme at a municipal corporation school in Bhavnagar city, Gujarat, on August 15 has triggered a controversy over the alleged depiction of burqa-clad women as 'terrorists'. Bhavnagar District Education Officer (DEO) Hitendrasinh D Padheriya on Tuesday sent a notice to Bhavnagar Municipal School Board Administrative Officer (AO) Munjal Badmaliya seeking a factual report within seven days on the programme held at the school, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam Pratmik Shala Number 51 in Kumbharwada area of Bhavnagar city. The notice was issued based on the representation made by a social organisation, Bandharan Bachav Samiti Bhavnagar, which alleged that the play 'depicted the Muslim community as terrorists' and demanded stern action against the 'teachers behind the play'. In the notice sent to Bhavnagar Municipal School Board Administrative Officer (AO) Munjal Badmaliya, the DEO sought details of the cultural programme at the school and asked whether the depiction as stated in the representation was intentional or unintentional, along with details of the function held on the school campus. Confirming the development, Padheriya told The Indian Express, 'The representation, marked to the District Collector, Municipal Commissioner and DEO on Monday, stated that there was a deliberate depiction of muslims as terrorists during the cultural programme held at the school on August 15. To find out facts and details, I have sought an explanation from the Administrative Officer within seven days.' The all-girls school in Bhavnagar with an enrollment of more than 600 students has come under spotlight after videos of the cultural programme appeared on social media. In its representation, Bandharan Bachav Samiti Bhavnagar alleged 'an attempt by the school staff to hurt religious sentiments and spread unrest in the public'. 'At Dr A P J Abdul Kalam Prathmik Shala Number 50-51 in Bhavnagar's Kumbharwada area, a play was presented by the children….. In this play, Kashmiri pilgrims as well as the Army and terrorists were depicted. In the play, girls dressed in Muslim attire (burqa) were shown as terrorists, clearly depicting the Muslim community as terrorists,' Bandharan Bachav Samiti said in the representation. The Samiti added that there is a lot of anger and protest in the Muslim community against the teachers, who, it said, showed their criminal mentality by staging such a play in the school. Speaking to The Indian Express, Jehurbhai Hussainbhai Jeja, the president of Bandharan Bachav Samiti, said, 'The Muslim community demands that all those school staff behind this act should be suspended and strict legal action should be taken so that no such unconstitutional act is committed in the future.' When contacted, the Administrative Officer, Munjal Badmaliya, said, 'The cultural programmes are held every year on January 26 and August 15. This year it was themed on Operation Sindoor and the bravery of our defence forces, and programmes were held in every school. Nothing was intentional or deliberate. We will submit our response to the notice.' There are over 30,000 students enrolled in 68 municipal schools in Bhavnagar city. This year as a part of Operation Sindoor celebration, school students sent Rakhis and letters to the soldiers from Gujarat. From Bhavnagar district alone, over 2 lakh school students have written to the soldiers from Gujarat.

"Keen On Sports But Does Not Play Games In Politics": PM Modi On NDA's Veep Pick

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday lauded Maharashtra Governor and NDA's vice presidential candidate C P Radhakrishnan for his simple lifestyle and dedication to public service in various capacities, and said he might have a lot of interest in sports but does not play games in politics, sources said. Addressing an NDA parliamentary party meeting where Radhakrishnan was felicitated, Modi recalled his almost four-decade-long association with the former Tamil Nadu BJP president, who was an RSS functionary like him before moving to the Jana Sangh and then the BJP, and said they have known each other since they sported black hair and praised his work in different capacities. In a reference to Radhakrishnan's background as a keen sportsperson, Modi said he has a lot of interests in sports but does not play games in politics, according to sources. His comments reminded some MPs of Jagdeep Dhankhar, who resigned as Vice President suddenly on July 21 amid indications that his souring ties with the ruling party might have pushed him to quit. In his address, Prime Minister Modi also slammed the Congress over the Indus Waters Treaty, put in abeyance by his government, saying Jawaharlal Nehru compromised India's interest to "burnish his image" and gave nod to the agreement without taking his Cabinet or Parliament into confidence, the sources said. Modi told MPs to take to the masses the alleged betrayal of India's interests by the first prime minister and how his government has decided to undo the agreement's adverse impact on the country, especially farmers. He also heaped praise on the NDA's vice presidential candidate for his 40 years of dedication to public service and appealed to opposition parties for his unanimous election. His hope of Radhakrishnan's uncontested election was, however, dashed by the Opposition's announcement later of former Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy as its candidate, ensuring that voting will take place to pick the next vice president on September 9. In a speech covering a host of issues, Modi also took up the S&P Global Ratings' recent decision to upgrade India's long-term sovereign credit rating, saying it highlights the country's sound economy and will draw more investment. He noted that he was told after his Independence Day speech, in which he had announced next-generation reforms and simplification of GST rates, that stock market will welcome the decision. Sensex has rallied for two consecutive days following the three-day holiday on account of Independence Day and weekends. In the NDA meeting, Radhakrishnan was felicitated by Modi and leaders of BJP allies, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju told reporters, describing the ruling alliance's enthusiastic welcome to his introduction by the prime minister. Rijiju said Radhakrishnan (67) has led a simple life away from any controversy or taint, stressing that his election as vice president will be a matter of delight for the entire country. With the BJP-led NDA enjoying a comfortable majority in the electoral college comprising MPs from the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Radhakrishnan's win is a certainty. He is likely to file his nomination on Wednesday. Raising the issue of the Indus Waters Treaty during his address, Modi said India's first prime minister allowed over 80 per cent of the river's water to be used by Pakistan, betraying the interest of Indian farmers. He said when parliamentarians, including former prime minister and then Jana Sangh MP Atal Bihari Vajpayee, protested, a two-hour debate was allowed in Parliament, according to the sources. Amid criticism, Nehru later lamented that for a few "buckets" of water so much hue and cry was being raised, Modi said, noting that the first prime minister had also played down China's capture of Indian territory in Ladakh by claiming that not a blade of grass grows there. Nehru later told a colleague that he had believed that the agreement would help resolve other issues with Pakistan but it did not happen, he noted. The prime minister said his government has been undoing the sins of that era, the sources added. Sounding confident of the economic outlook amid a strain in ties with the US, which has slapped a 50 per cent tariff on India, Modi noted that the Delhi international airport has been ranked among the busiest airports in the world and India's forex reserves remain robust.
