Emotional rescue: Emo Prom chance to relive teenage experiences

I t's time to party like it's 2005 — 'Let's All Cry at the Museum: An Emo Prom' is Saturday.
The event runs from 6-8 p.m. at the Imperial Calcasieu Museum, 204 W. Sallier St.
Emo Prom is open to ages 13 and older. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Tickets are $15.
The night offers the opportunity to relive the early 2000s as true emo kids.
Emo, or emotional hardcore, is a subculture characterized by expressive fashion and confessional alternative music. Creative Director Ashley Royer said genre-specific and themed subculture events strengthen communities by carving out safe spaces for self-expression.
'They offer a sense of belonging for those who may have felt like outsiders, while celebrating shared identity through music, fashion and nostalgia,' she said. 'These events spark creativity, support local artists and bring together different generations who connect over a common cultural moment. In doing so, they enrich the local cultural landscape and remind us that every voice deserves a place.'
The inspiration for the event came from Maya the Bread Suppliah, who will be providing baked goods. Her idea was to dive deep into nostalgia with the community to create a space to connect, Royer said.
Party-goers should prepare for a 'beautifully tragic night of emotional overload' and catharsis, with photo booths, comfort food and a perfectly curated playlist.
'We'll have a '90s and 2000s artifact table like a shrine to our misunderstood teenage souls, and a screening of music videos that once spoke to us louder than any guidance counselor ever could. It's not just a prom, it's a collective exorcism of our emo past,' she said.
Guests will be able to get temporary tattoos at the Tat Table, scream into the microphone during 'sorrowful karaoke' and witness the crowning of the prom royalty.
The members of the court will be chosen based on their outfits. Guests are encouraged to don their best emo regalia — skinny jeans, worn converse, smoky eyeliner — to show off their 'edge and dark romantic side.'
For those who want to participate in more quiet expression, coloring sheets will be available.
'Not all emotions need a dance floor,' Royer said.
Guests are invited to take a look at the exhibitions: 'Branch Out Summer Art Exhibit,' 'El Nuevo Constante: Shipwrecked,' 'Hall of Heroes,' and Ripples: Imperial Calcasieu Parish's Waterborne History.'
Royer called it an opportunity to 'embrace the nostalgia together.'

How to get My Chemical Romance tickets for 2026 UK tour

The iconic emo band are bringing their Long Live The Black Parade tour to UK shores. My Chemical Romance are bringing their Long Live The Black Parade tour to the UK, with the band confirming the first dates for the band's return. The iconic emo band are celebrating the upcoming 20th anniversary of their breakout hit album The Black Parade with a worldwide tour. The band are in the midst of touring in North America and have already announced tour dates for South America and South East Asia. Here is what MCR fans need to know about the band's return to the UK, their first tour dates in the country since 2022. How to get tickets to My Chemical Romance's 2026 UK tour My Chemical Romance have announced two dates so far for their UK tour, with the band set to perform at London's Wembley Stadium on Friday 10 July and Saturday 11 July, 2026. Tickets for the show will be available to purchase at 10am on Friday, 15 August on Ticketmaster, as well as on AXS and Gigs and Tours. There is not currently a pre-sale option for the tour, so fans of the band who wish to see the group will all have to try their luck on Friday. The two stadium dates are also the only UK tour dates the band has announced so far. The group had been teasing a UK tour announcement for some time, sharing a quirky video of an old school game show called Quizzo that declared the country that had won a "nuclear winter" was the UK. Wembley Stadium then teased the MCR logo and the 'Long Live The Black Parade' poster on Sunday, 10 August ahead of the official announcement on Monday. The teaser is very much in line with the band's tour, which has seen the band create their own language and lore around a fictional country that has served as inspiration for the Long Live the Black Parade tour and has given it a rock opera feel thus far. As part of the new tour the band are performing their breakout 2006 album The Black Parade in full as well as a number of rare songs from their back catalogue. My Chemical Romance last toured the UK in 2022 as part of their reunion tour, they performed in Milton Keynes, Cornwall, Dublin, Warrington, Cardiff and Glasgow at the time. It is currently unclear if more UK tour dates will be announced for 2026.

NYT ‘Connections' Hints For Tuesday, August 5: Today's Clues And Answers

Each day's game of NYT Connections goes live at midnight local time. Before we get to today's Connections hints and answers, here are Monday's: Hey there, Connectors! I hope your week is off to a wonderful start. I went to a couple of shows over the weekend, including one on Friday night. It was an evening of emo/metal tribute bands. I skipped the first act, which paid homage to A Day to Remember, since I don't know that band's music at all. The Paramore tribute group was pretty decent, but the headliner was the main reason I went. I've mentioned this a few times in this here column, but over the last few months, I've fallen head over heels in love with Electric Callboy. Their songs are an intoxicating mix of pop, metal and electronica/techno. Just fantastically fun stuff. It's going to be a while before I get the chance to see the real deal live, so I couldn't really pass up the chance to see a tribute band that was playing fairly close to my home. For it only being their second show, I thought the tribute band did a great job. They really got the crowd going. I'd never seen a wall of death with as few as about 20 people before, but they made it happen. The glow sticks that were handed out to the audience members and the confetti definitely helped with the party vibe. I had a great time, and I'd definitely see them again. But more than anything, the show reinforced my desire to see the real Electric Callboy as soon as possible. North America tour dates when, guys? Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It's a fun hangout spot, and you're more than welcome to hang out with us. Discord is also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions that I mess something up. I don't look at the comments or Twitter much. You can also read my weekend editions of this column at my new newsletter, Pastimes. Today's NYT Connections hints and answers for Tuesday, August 5 are coming right up. How To Play Connections Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on the NYT's website or Games app. You're presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like items you can click, names for research study participants or words preceded by a body part. There's only one solution for each puzzle, and you'll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them. Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult one. The purple group often involves wordplay. Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you're incorrect, you'll lose a life. If you're close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you're one word away from getting it right, but you'll still need to figure out which one to swap. If you make four mistakes, it's game over. Let's make sure that doesn't happen with the help of some hints, and, if you're really struggling, today's Connections answers. As with Wordle and other similar games, it's easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats. If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication's Connections archive. This includes every previous game of Connections, so you can go back and play any of those that you have missed. Aside from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find our hints Google if you need them! Just click here and add the date of the game for which you need clues or the answers to the search query. What Are Today's Connections Hints? Scroll slowly! Just after the hints for each of today's Connections groups, I'll reveal what the groups are without immediately telling you which words go into them. Today's 16 words are... And the hints for today's Connections groups are: One Word For Each Connections Group Need some extra help? Be warned: we're starting to get into spoiler territory. Let's take a look at one word for each group. Today's Connections word hints are… What Are Today's Connections Groups? Today's Connections groups are... What Are Today's Connections Answers? Spoiler alert! Don't scroll any further down the page until you're ready to find out today's Connections answers. This is your final warning! Today's Connections answers are... The yellows were super straightforward, and not only because I'm dashing off to take the METRO to go somewhere as soon as I'm finished writing this column. So, I have it on my mind. I had no problems with the greens either, with MINCE opening the door there. CARROT and COAL gave the game away for the blues too. I don't think I've ever actually built a snowman with the traditional accoutrements, but I've seen them often enough in movies etc to know what they look like. I was able to figure out the purples before submitting them too, largely thanks to ZIP and DRESS. "SECRET code" isn't quite a common enough expression for it to be a very neat fit here, I don't think, but it does work. Pretty straightforward game today, I felt. My streak now sits at 158 wins in a row. Here's my grid for today: 🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟩🟩🟩🟩 🟦🟦🟦🟦 🟪🟪🟪🟪 That's all there is to it for today's Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for hints and the solution for Wednesday's game if you need them. P.S. I'd planned to go with something else today and recommend this song later this week, but this one fits in neatly with today's puzzle, so I had to change things up. 'The Subway' is the latest single by Chappell Roan. As with pretty much everything else she's done over the last few years, it's great stuff. This is a dreamy, heartfelt ballad about a lost love. The video's terrific too. though I would not personally every find myself in the Washington Square Park fountain. No, thank you: Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love! Please follow my blog for more coverage of NYT Connections and other word games, and even some video game news, insights and analysis. It helps me out a lot! Sharing this column with other people who play Connections would be appreciated too. You can also read my weekend editions of this column at my new newsletter, Pastimes.
