Honda to bring brand a new EV next fiscal, not Elevate EV. Hybrids on cards as well
Honda has always been an icon in India. The company launched the Honda City way back in time, and from then on, this sedan has seen constant development. The Honda CR-V SUV also created quite a buzz back in the day with its good looks and strong performance. Then came the iconic Honda Civic which back in the day looked nothing short of a spaceship. It got even better when the company showed a brave face by launching the Civic Hybrid as well. From then on, the company somehow changed focus and in came cars like the Honda Amaze and now the Honda Elevate. But somehow, the new generation Hondas were not well received by the Indian audience. But all that could change rapidly, going by the words of Takashi Nakajima, the new president and CEO of Honda Cars India Limited. Nakajima says that the first BEV from the company is all set to launch next fiscal year and that more hybrids with the next-gen HEV technology will also make their way into India. So what does that mean? Let's delve deeper.
As per the new president and CEO of Honda Cars India Limited, Takashi Nakajima, the first BEV from the company will come next fiscal year, along with more hybrids.
advertisementThe Honda EVHonda had recently announced that it is getting an EV ready for India and that it will be based on the recently launched Honda Elevate. However things have changed now and the new EV will be a brand new vehicle and will not be based on the Elevate. While details are yet to emerge, we understand that Honda now believes that to succeed in India, the company has to differentiate between EV and ICE models. So rather than go the Hyundai way, where the Creta ICE and EVs look rather identical, it might go the Mahindra way and create a brand new models like the Mahindra BE 6 and the Mahindra XEV 9e. This, we believe is a great move and should establish the Japanese major as a strong player in India.advertisementConsidering the brand is all set to launch an EV soon, Honda is busy developing its charging network so that customers can buy the vehicle in confidence.More hybrids on cards
Honda was one of the first movers with hybrids. They launched the civic hybrid in 2008.
Honda launched the first hybrid in India back in 2008. It was the Civic Hybrid and was quite a revolution back in the day with its sleek looks and excellent performance. The company also offers the Honda City e:HEV in India that apart from ultra low emissions also offers an incredible fuel efficiency of 27.26kmpl. Hybrids surely is what India needs and Nakajima says that the company will bring the new generation HEV technology to India. The new gen tech deploys a 1.5-litre petrol engine that is cleaner than ever before offering nearly 40 per cent better efficiency. It will also be cost-effective. The system could also deploy a dual-motor system where there is one traction motor and the other one being a generator motor.advertisementTo conclude, Honda surely is getting back on track to offer products that are not only aimed at fan boys but a more younger audience and we believe it is the right way forward.Subscribe to Auto Today Magazine

Fed likely to leave rates unchanged as US job market cools but doesn't crumble
Federal Reserve policymakers have already signaled they are in no rush to cut interest rates , and a government report on Friday showing the labor market is far from crumbling amid big trade policy changes only cements that stance. The Labor Department 's monthly employment report showed the unemployment rate held steady at 4.2% last month. Employers added 139,000 jobs, which combined with downward revisions to prior months' estimates showed a cooling in labor demand but nothing abrupt; by comparison, job gains averaged 160,000 last year. U.S. President Donald Trump ratcheted up his calls for rate cuts. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Killer New Honda CR-V Is Utter Perfection (Take A Look) SneakerToast Undo "Go for a full point, Rocket Fuel," Trump said in a post on Truth Social that urged the Fed to lower rates by 100 basis points. The president added that the Fed could simply increase rates again if inflation reignited. But the latest job growth reading is already giving Fed policymakers more comfort about holding the U.S. central bank's policy rate steady as they watch to see how higher import tariffs affect the economy. Live Events It "was a solid report and I was pleased with it," Philadelphia Fed President Patrick Harker told CNBC, adding that now was the time for the Fed to hold policy steady. Fed officials have telegraphed that they intend to do just that at their June 17-18 policy meeting. Financial markets have been betting the Fed will wait until September to cut rates and will deliver a second reduction in borrowing costs by December; after the jobs report they trimmed their bets on a possible third rate cut by the end of this year. "Continued strength in the jobs number provides further support for the Fed's patience," said Scott Helfstein, Global X's head of investment strategy. "The Fed is likely to remain on hold through the end of summer to see how tariff negotiations proceed and ensure prices are stabilizing." Analysts said they expect more softening ahead in the labor market as higher import levies and government policy uncertainty strain economic growth. Job gains in May were concentrated in a narrowing range of industries, including healthcare, and manufacturing lost jobs in its worst showing since January, the employment report showed. The workforce shrank by the most in 17 months. Fed policymakers, however, have signaled they are disinclined to act preemptively to cushion any emerging weakness in jobs, especially with higher tariffs seen likely to also push up prices and potentially reignite inflationary pressures. The takeaway on the labor market for the Fed, said Krishna Guha, vice chairman of Evercore ISI, is that, "given the lack of any serious cracks to date, the risk of waiting several more months to learn more with policy in a modestly restrictive posture looks low."

Chenab bridge: How project team navigated through steep slopes on horses, mules
To realise the vision of travelling from "Kashmir to Kanyakumari" by rail, the project team behind the construction of Chenab bridge faced several challenges. Among them was how to reach the location surrounded by the steep slopes of the Himalayas. The team had only one option -- horses and mules. According to Afcons Infrastructure Limited , the top infrastructure company that constructed the bridge, one of the main and earliest challenges was access to the bridge location, to transport equipment and construction materials. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Killer New Honda CR-V Is Utter Perfection (Take A Look) SneakerToast Undo "Initially, mules and horses were used by the project team to reach the location. Slowly over a period, temporary roads were created and access was made available to the site," a spokesperson from the company said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the iconic Chenab Bridge, Anji Rail Bridge and Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project and flagged off Vande Bharat trains, connecting Kashmir to Kanyakumari. Live Events The spokesperson added that eventually on the North side of the river bank, an 11-km road was constructed and a 12-km long road on the South side. Krishnamurthy Subramanian, Executive Vice Chairman, Afcons, said the Chenab Railway Bridge is more than just a marvel of engineering. "It is a symbol of India's resolve to conquer the most formidable challenges with ingenuity and courage," Subramanian told PTI. The company used the world's tallest crossbar cable cranes and specialised heavy machinery as tools for this ambitious project. "The ancient and steep slopes of the Himalayas were tamed using massive consolidation grouting, making them sturdy for the colossal arch foundations," the company said, highlighting challenges it faced. "With the foundations set, the erection of the arch from both sides was planned by cantilever construction technique. The first big moment of triumph came on April 5, 2021, when a single majestic arch approaching steadily from both banks met at the crown," it added. "The viaduct construction was another unique challenge. There were multiple transition areas. Keeping this in mind, the launching sequence was meticulously planned in four sections," the spokesperson. Giridhar Rajagopalan, Deputy Managing Director, Afcons told PTI that for the first time in Indian Railways , incremental launching was done on transition curve and a longitudinal gradient, both occurring at same location, for the deck launching of the viaduct portion of the Chenab Bridge. S Paramasivan, Managing Director, Afcons, "For Afcons, it represents our unwavering commitment to nation-building and our ability to reimagine infrastructure in the toughest terrains. This bridge will inspire generations of engineers and stands as a tribute to the power of Indian engineering and teamwork." For the first time in the Indian Railways' history, a laboratory accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration (NABL) was set up to ensure that quality was being monitored at every stage of the project. Situated at a height of 359 metres above the river, the Chenab bridge is 35 metres higher than the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris and the world's highest railway bridge over the Chenab river. After inaugurating the Chenab bridge, the prime minister walked on it holding the Tricolour high. He travelled in a rail engine coach to reach the spot.
