According to Agoda, searches for these coastal destinations in May 2025, for stays between June and August, rose by a combined 35% compared to the same period last year.

Semporna: With a 38% rise in searches, Semporna is attracting growing interest this season. Its breezy seascapes, stays in stilted homes, and sun-dappled boat rides offer plenty of natural ventilation. But for many, the real cool-down happens below the surface.
From snorkelling off Mabul or Kapalai to diving among the breathtaking walls of Sipadan, underwater exploration offers a literal escape from the city heat, where coral gardens and calm currents replace concrete and humidity.
Kuala Terengganu: Search interest for this East Coast gem climbed 37% year-on-year, as more travellers look to coastal cities with culture and charm. Known for its rich heritage and breezy shorelines, Kuala Terengganu offers beachfront views, artistic performances along Pantai Batu Buruk, and peaceful strolls through waterfront markets.
Visitors can cool off with fresh coconut shakes, explore traditional boat-making villages, or unwind in shaded cafes by the South China Sea — all perfect for those seeking a laid-back escape where sea spray and gentle winds help take the edge off the heat.
Tioman Island: Interest in this lush island grew as searches rose 27% compared to the same period last year. Forest-backed resorts shaded by jungle canopies offer pockets of calm where sun and humidity feel a little less intense.
Travellers can hike into the island's rainforest interior and cool off in natural freshwater pools like the Asah Waterfall. Between shaded swims and jungle treks, Tioman promises a slower, breezier pace perfect for heat-weary holidaymakers.

KUALA TERENGGANU: More than 4,000 participants, including those from Asean member countries, took part in the Asean Solidarity Cycling Tour 2025, at Dataran Batu Buruk, here today. Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim stated that the cycling and running event aims to promote a healthy lifestyle and strengthen Asean regional ties. Adam Adli said it is a one-off event, but the ministry hoped that similar events could be organised again in the future. Meanwhile, Cambodian participant Kloth Karaney, 39, said the programme could also promote tourism destinations in Asean countries, particularly Malaysia, as well as nurture good communication and strong relationships among people from Asean member states. Vietnamese participant Tran Chong Thai, 36, who is visiting Malaysia for the first time, commended the event, adding that he would promote the country's tourism destinations to his friends back home. "I love this city (Kuala Terengganu). The event is good and the food here is also very nice," he added.

Teo: Utilise AI, youth to promote Malaysian culture
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia must leverage artificial intelligence, as well as the energy and skills of its younger generation, to promote the nation's culture and heritage on the global stage. Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said Malaysia's cultural diversity, heritage and natural environment are the nation's key strengths in capturing global attention. "The ministry has always encouraged the media such as RTM, Bernama and the Information Department to produce quality-assured content by using the latest technology such as AI. "AI helps us produce content faster and more efficiently, but precaution must be taken to ensure it is being used for good, not harm," she said when appearing as a guest at Media Prima Audio today. When asked if youths are still interested in heritage and the nation, she said she believes that most of them remain keen to explore Malaysia's unique features. She said, in line with current technological advancements, youths are seen as being able to help promote the nation's culture and heritage through digital platforms. "Most foreigners are amazed by Malaysian's uniqueness for speaking fluently in multiple languages, which in turn reflects the harmony of a multiracial nation," she added. Teo said she also extends greetings in various languages when delivering speeches at official events abroad as a symbol of Malaysia's identity. "Every time I travel abroad, they are very impressed to see Malaysians who are able to speak multiple languages. "This reflects the beauty and strength of our country that comes from its diverse backgrounds. "I will start my speech with 'Salam sejahtera Malaysia, selamat pagi' and so on.
