Emergency enforced in all public-sector hospitals in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: The federal government has enforced health emergency in all the public sector hospitals following Indian attack on multiple location in the country.
Federal Minister for National Health Services and Coordination Mustafa Kamal made this announcement here on Wednesday as a part of urgent measures in response to the crisis. Emergency has been enforced in all public hospitals in Islamabad, and all medical staff have been instructed to remain fully alert and prepared to respond at any moment.
All scheduled leaves of doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, and administrative personnel under the Federal Ministry of Health and its subordinate institutions have been cancelled with immediate effect. All employees are required to report to duty without delay.
The ministry has directed all the provincial health secretaries to maintain constant coordination with the federal health authorities. They have also been directed to regularly update their emergency response plans in accordance with evolving federal guidelines.
In view of the national emergency, Minister Kamal has cancelled his official visits to Geneva and Qatar. 'At this moment, my top priority is to focus on the domestic situation and ensure the protection of public health,' he stated.
A 24/7 Emergency Quick Response Centre has been established at the Federal Health Institution. This centre will assess health-related emergencies stemming from the ongoing conflict and coordinate immediate response efforts. It will maintain direct communication with all provincial and district health authorities to ensure a synchronised and efficient approach.
Kamal, has strongly denounced the Indian missile attack that struck civilian areas and targeted a mosque, calling it a blatant violation of international norms and an attack on humanity.
The minister said, 'By targeting innocent civilians and a place of worship, India has crossed all limits of decency and exposed its extremist mindset. This is not merely an assault on Pakistan—it is an attack on the entire Muslim Ummah.'
Calling the act a 'cowardly and unforgivable crime,' Kamal criticised the Modi administration for what he described as an act of provocation. 'India's actions reflect the true face of its leadership. The targeting of a mosque lays bare the deep-rooted extremism driving Indian policy,' he stated.
Kamal emphasised that Pakistan's commitment to peace should not be mistaken for weakness. 'The era of silence is over. The time has come to respond to the enemy in a language it understands,' he said, underscoring the nation's readiness to defend its sovereignty.
He said, 'Every citizen of Pakistan today stands firmly with our military. We are united, resolute, and prepared to confront any challenge to our dignity and security,' he said.

Baldia hospital: CM inaugurates 100-bed SICVD
KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah marked another significant milestone with the inauguration of The Sindh Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (SICVD) Baldia Town Hospital, a new facility poised to deliver world-class, free-of-cost cardiac healthcare and announced to launch a second catheterisation lab and develop surgical operation theatres next year in the hospital. He said this while speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the 100-bedded SICVD Baldia on Thursday. The ceremony was attended by Minister Health Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, Secretary Health Rehan Baloch, and Executive Director SICVD Professor Jawaid Akbar Sial, elected representatives of Kiamari and West district, medical professionals, and others. The SICVD facility was originally intended to be inaugurated by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. However, due to his leadership of Pakistan's high-level delegation in response to Indian aggression, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah officiated the inauguration on his behalf. Background: The CM said that Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) had initiated the construction of the hospital years ago, funded by the Sindh government, but the project remained incomplete for a considerable time. The Sindh government later collaborated with SICVD, completing the hospital in just over eight months. The CM proudly announced that SICVD has evolved into the world's largest cardiac healthcare network, operating 10 full-fledged cardiac hospitals and 29 strategically located Chest Pain Units (CPUs) across the province. This extensive network currently treats over two million patients annually, all completely free of cost. He detailed the comprehensive services offered, including open-heart surgeries, stroke interventions, paediatric cardiac care, and emergency angioplasties, ensuring timely access to advanced cardiac treatment even in remote areas. Karachi alone, Murad Shah noted, is home to 19 chest pain units, strategically positioned in high-traffic locations such as Nagan Chowrangi, Landhi, Gizri, and within institutions like KIHD and JPMC. Beyond Karachi, CPUs are operational in districts like Thatta, Kashmore, Jacobabad, and Umerkot, effectively bringing emergency cardiac care to patients' doorsteps. Providing a broader context of development in Sindh, the chief minister shared recent data indicating that a total of 579 projects have been initiated or are currently underway across various public service and infrastructure sectors. To ensure the successful implementation and sustainability of these initiatives, 22,621 personnel, including technical staff, frontline workers, and administrative personnel, have been deployed. PIMA for effective implementation of anti-tobacco laws
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) urged the authorities to ensure the effective implementation of existing anti-tobacco laws, stricter regulation of emerging nicotine products, and to increase taxation on tobacco products to safeguard public health, on this World No Tobacco Day. In a joint statement, PIMA President Prof Atif Hafeez Siddiqui and health experts Prof Sohail Akhtar and Dr Ahmar Hamid highlighted that tobacco use is causing an alarming rise in non-communicable diseases in Pakistan, due to weak enforcement of laws and poor public awareness. They cited World Health Organization (WHO) data, revealing that tobacco use results in approximately 164,000 deaths annually in Pakistan and an economic loss of over PKR 700 billion. PIMA noted that global research confirms raising tobacco taxes not only boosts government revenue but also significantly reduces consumption and related health burdens. In Pakistan, following tax increases in 2023, tobacco use declined by 19.2 percent, while 26.3 percent of smokers reduced their cigarette intake. Revenue from federal excise duty (FED) on cigarettes rose by 66 percent, from PKR 142 billion in 2022-23 to PKR 237 billion in 2023-24. Prof Siddiqui and medical experts also called for stricter regulation of emerging nicotine products like e-cigarettes, nicotine pouches, and heated tobacco, which are aggressively marketed and equally harmful. 'Alarmingly, 68 percent of student users are involved in e-cigarettes, highlighting the urgent need for targeted awareness,' they added. They urged that tobacco tax revenues be utilised for consistent awareness campaigns in all local languages, and called on provincial governments to invest in youth-focused education programmes. Pakistan went nuclear on this day in 1998. Today, Sindh celebrates
In high spirits after the recent combat victory over India, the people of Sindh celebrated Yom-e-Takbeer on Wednesday by participating in rallies and seminars, paying tribute to the military and civilian martyrs as well. The official and unofficial rallies were taken out in all districts of the province. Hyderabad Deputy Commissioner Zainul Abedin Memon led a rally from Shahbaz Building to the Post Master General's office. Addressing the participants he said Pakistan is a golden day in the country's history when Pakistan proved its impeccable defence capability before the world. "This day not only helped restore the balance of power in South Asia, but made Pakistan emerge as the sole nuclear power among the Muslim countries." He underscored that the atomic program is a guarantee of defence for Pakistan. A large rally was also organized in Matiari district. "This day reminds us that with national unity, strong resolve, and self-reliance, we can overcome any challenge," affirmed SSP Faisal Bashir Memon. DC Muhammad Yousuf Sheikh said Youm-e-Takbeer is a day to pay tribute to the great scientists, military and civil leadership, and workers whose sacrifices made this achievement possible. In Jamshoro a rally started from the DC office, led by Additional DC Nooruddin Hingorjo. The enthusiastic participants chanted slogans, praising the scientists and the Pakistan army as well as the political leadership. A hospital operated by the Atomic Energy Commission in Larkana district organized a rally in connection with Yom-e-Takbeer. Doctors, paramedics and a large number of citizens took part in the activity. The hospital's Director Dr Abdul Samad Shaikh said Pakistan's atomic program is meant for peace and not aggression. He noted that 20 hospitals working under the commission are providing free cancer treatment to the patients. The Sindh Education Department in Shaheed Benazirabad district arranged an event at M H Khuwaja auditorium hall. The speakers underlined that Pakistan on this day 27 years ago conveyed to the global community for the sake of freedom, sovereignty and national security the country's armed forces are ever ready. Jamaat-e-Islami, Sunni Tehreek, Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Pakistan, Pakistan Milli Muslim League, traders associations and many other groups of people also organized events to mark the day.
