KUWAIT CITY - The Standing Committee for Celebrating National Holidays and Occasions convened on Sunday to discuss several key initiatives aimed at promoting domestic tourism during the summer season.
The meeting, held at Seif Palace, was chaired by the Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi. It was attended by Sheikha Amthal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Chairperson of the Voluntary Work Center, and other committee members representing various official bodies.
Minister Al-Mutairi presented a series of recommendations to stimulate domestic tourism, including the creation of a dedicated tourism website that would outline approved initiatives and adhere to established standards.
He also proposed facilitating transit visa procedures in the coming period and extending the operating hours of shopping malls throughout the summer. Additionally, the committee discussed plans for a range of recreational activities, including theatrical performances, and the inclusion of events organized by the Tourism Enterprises Company in the "Hayakum" application — a comprehensive platform designed to showcase all national events in coordination with relevant authorities.
During the meeting, the committee reviewed special summer offers presented by Jazeera Airways in collaboration with Kuwait Airways. A visual presentation was also given by the Hayakom digital platform team, highlighting the various tourism, sports, and cultural events listed on the platform. This included activities from the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, as well as initiatives under the Gardenia project.
The Touristic Enterprises Company also provided a comprehensive update on its ongoing projects and progress. In addition, the committee's evaluation and quality control team presented a report on its work.
Among the proposals discussed was the creation of a comprehensive tourism guide for Kuwait, as well as promotional packages offered by local hotels at competitive prices to further encourage domestic tourism.

DP World revenues soar 20.4% to $11.24bn for H1 despite global trade headwinds

Dubai logistics company and port operators DP World continued to report strong revenue growth, reaching US$11.24 billion, a 20.4 per cent year-on-year (YoY) jump, despite the ongoing geopolitical and economic uncertainty. Driven by strong performance across Ports & Terminals and recent acquisitions, DP World's adjusted EBITDA reached $3.03 billion, up 21.4 per cent, while container volumes increased 5.6 per cent on a like-for-like basis, reaching 45.4 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) across the global portfolio. EBITDA margin improved 0.2 points to 27.0 per cent. Net profit was up 68.5 per cent to US$960 million, compared to US$570 million in the same period last year. DP World expects to deliver a strong full-year EBITDA performance, supported by sustained throughput growth, operational leverage in Ports & Terminals, strengthening balance sheet, and strategic capex and global integration. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, DP World Group Chairman and CEO, commented on business outlook: 'Looking ahead, we remain optimistic about the medium- to long-term outlook for global trade and logistics. As supply chains evolve, DP World is well-positioned to lead the industry in delivering efficient, resilient, and sustainable trade solutions that create long-term value.' On the H1 results, Bin Sulayem added: 'We are pleased to report strong first-half results, with both revenue and EBITDA growing by over 20 per cent. 'Ongoing geopolitical tensions, the continued closure of the Red Sea route, and rising uncertainty around global trade tariffs have caused significant disruption across the industry. Despite these challenges, our strategy of delivering integrated end-to-end solutions and operating critical infrastructure in key markets has allowed us to continue supporting cargo owners to move their freight and to deliver a strong set of results.' The company continues to invest in strategic growth markets, with US$1.08 billion in capital expenditure during the first half of the year. The full-year capex target of US$2.5 billion will support expansion in Jebel Ali Port, Drydocks World, Tuna Tekra (India), London Gateway (UK), and Dakar (Senegal), along with DP World Logistics and P&O Maritime Logistics. These investments are focused on enhancing terminal capacity, supply chain integration, and digital capabilities to support long-term trade resilience. Across terminals where DP World has operational control, the company handled 27.4 million TEU, an increase of 7.5 per cent year-on-year. Yuvraj Narayan, Group Deputy CEO & CFO, commented: 'This performance was underpinned by continued momentum in Ports & Terminals and Marine Services, supported by strong cash generation and a disciplined balance sheet. We remain well-positioned to fund strategic growth, maintain our credit strength, and respond to evolving market conditions.' DP World's freight forwarding platform now spans approximately 300 locations and covers more than 90 per cent of global trade lanes. Bin Sulayem added: 'We continue to enhance our logistics capabilities, allowing us to serve customers seamlessly across the world's major trade lanes. Recent bolt-on acquisitions have expanded our offerings and introduced specialised capabilities aligned with the evolving needs of cargo owners. 'These investments address supply chain inefficiencies and strengthen connectivity across key corridors, enabling us to deliver more resilient, efficient, and tailored solutions.'

Omani ports record double-digit growth in ship traffic and container handling

Container and cargo handling in the ports in the Sultanate of Oman grew 11.7 per cent during the first half of 2025. Ship traffic also increased significantly, up 11.1 per cent during the six months. Revealing the statistics, Muhanna bin Musa bin Baqer, Director General of Ports at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, said the country's efforts to improve the port infrastructure also played a key role in this process. Container handling at the ports of Salalah, Sohar and Duqm reached 2,427,195 TEUs compared to 2,173,508 TEUs in the first half of 2024, 'reflecting the efficiency of logistics operations and the ports' ability to handle the growing demand', Musa bin Baqer said. The total number of ships received by Omani ports and marine docks outside the ports reached 6,586 ships during H1 2025, compared to 5,930 ships during the same period last year. Several major ports contributed to this growth uptick, including Sultan Qaboos Port, Shinas, and Salalah. The Director-General of Ports indicated that the total volume of goods handled through Omani ports during the first half of 2025 amounted to 70,114,527 tons, compared to 66,620,847 tonnes last year, an increase of 5.2 per cent. Musa bin Baqer stated that the number of vehicles received by the ports reached 50,248, while the total number of livestock imported through the ports reached 2,694,293 heads, reflecting the diversity of economic activities served by the ports with high efficiency. The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has awarded the consultancy services project for the design and supervision of the development of Khor Jarama, which will contribute to enhancing the site's readiness and optimal maritime utilisation. Consultancy services tender for the rehabilitation of Shannah and Masirah ports has also been awarded.
