Sixth Gulf Conference recommends boosting economic diversification through innovation, AI
KUWAIT -- Chairwoman of the 6th Gulf Virtual Conference for Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Artificial Intelligence (AI), Dr. Hanadi Mubarak Al-Mubaraki, announced Tuesday that the conference concluded with four main recommendations aimed at strengthening economic diversification through innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship. In a statement to KUNA, Al-Mubaraki said that the conference, held virtually under the patronage of Minister of Information, Culture, and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi from May 26 to 27, featured distinguished participation from sheikhs, ministers, diplomats, inventors, entrepreneurs, researchers, and experts across various sectors, exceeding 100 participants. Al-Mubaraki noted that the four recommendations focused on key themes, namely economic diversification through innovation and technological entrepreneurship, digital transformation and artificial intelligence, advancement in financial, health, and educational technologies, as well as building smart cities and clean energy. She pointed out that the first recommendation emphasized the necessity of long-term investment in innovative and sustainable projects, the establishment of an Arab investment fund to support innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology transfer, the creation of a GCC center for institutional innovation and technological entrepreneurship, and strengthening partnerships among governmental and private sectors, academia, and financial institutions to raise innovation and AI indicators. She mentioned that the second recommendation called for developing digital infrastructure to support AI applications and cybersecurity, encouraging startups and SMEs in the AI sector, designing specialized AI algorithms in Arabic, enabling digital commerce, and establishing clear data protection and privacy policies. She indicated that the third recommendation emphasized enhancing the use of technology, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing in vital sectors such as health, education, and finance, developing innovative fintech tools, and supporting digital regional integration among Gulf and Arab countries. Al-Mubaraki added that the fourth and final recommendation highlighted the importance of investing in smart cities infrastructure, communication networks, renewable energy technologies, enhancing technological innovation in clean energy, promoting sustainable marketing through technology to reduce harmful emissions, and raising community awareness about sustainability.

Kuwait unveils new initiatives to boost domestic tourism this summer
KUWAIT CITY - The Standing Committee for Celebrating National Holidays and Occasions convened on Sunday to discuss several key initiatives aimed at promoting domestic tourism during the summer season. The meeting, held at Seif Palace, was chaired by the Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi. It was attended by Sheikha Amthal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Chairperson of the Voluntary Work Center, and other committee members representing various official bodies. Minister Al-Mutairi presented a series of recommendations to stimulate domestic tourism, including the creation of a dedicated tourism website that would outline approved initiatives and adhere to established standards. He also proposed facilitating transit visa procedures in the coming period and extending the operating hours of shopping malls throughout the summer. Additionally, the committee discussed plans for a range of recreational activities, including theatrical performances, and the inclusion of events organized by the Tourism Enterprises Company in the "Hayakum" application — a comprehensive platform designed to showcase all national events in coordination with relevant authorities. During the meeting, the committee reviewed special summer offers presented by Jazeera Airways in collaboration with Kuwait Airways. A visual presentation was also given by the Hayakom digital platform team, highlighting the various tourism, sports, and cultural events listed on the platform. This included activities from the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, as well as initiatives under the Gardenia project. The Touristic Enterprises Company also provided a comprehensive update on its ongoing projects and progress. In addition, the committee's evaluation and quality control team presented a report on its work. Among the proposals discussed was the creation of a comprehensive tourism guide for Kuwait, as well as promotional packages offered by local hotels at competitive prices to further encourage domestic tourism.

Bahrain keen to promote GCC as unified tourism destination
Bahrain's Tourism Minister Fatima bint Jaafar Al Sairafi has underscored the kingdom's commitment to further develop coordination with GCC countries to launch joint tourism initiatives, enhance regional tourism offerings, and promote the region as a unified destination. She was speaking at the ninth preparatory meeting of the GCC Ministers Responsible for Tourism in Kuwait. The meeting was chaired by Abdulrahman Al Mutairi, Minister of Information and Culture of Kuwait. The meeting was also attended by Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, GCC Secretary General, said a Bahrain News Agency (BNA) report. The minister emphasised that GCC countries have the potential to lead the regional and global tourism sector. This is supported by the GCC's efforts to promote the region as a unified tourist destination, offering diverse attractions and events that appeal to visitors worldwide. Minister Al Sairafi highlighted Bahrain's success in attracting a high number of visitors from the GCC in 2024, coinciding with Manama's selection as the GCC Tourism Capital. She noted Bahrain's efforts to host year-round tourism and entertainment events catering to diverse visitor preferences while expanding leisure, hospitality, and shopping options through exclusive travel and accommodation packages for GCC tourists. She noted that GCC countries are increasingly focused on enhancing joint efforts to market the region as an integrated tourism destination. She highlighted the development of a comprehensive tourism ecosystem that supports the growth of the travel and tourism sector, attracts more visitors, and supports the growth of tourism-related industries. AL Sairafi noted that in 2023, international tourist arrivals to the GCC increased by 42.8% compared to 2019, while international tourism revenues grew by 28% over the same period. She highlighted that Bahrain's 2022-2026 tourism strategy prioritises the GCC market as one of its key target audiences. The meeting reviewed the progress made in implementing the decisions from the eighth session, held in Doha in 2024, which included projects, initiatives, and objectives related to developing tourism across GCC countries. The ministers responsible for tourism in the GCC also discussed several key topics concerning the sector. These included the Gulf tourism strategy, plans for further developing cooperation between the tourism and cultural sectors, and other issues aimed at enhancing joint tourism efforts among GCC countries.
