In an industry where box office numbers often define a film's legacy,
Mohit Suri
's Saiyaara has etched its name in the annals of Hindi cinema by becoming the 26th highest-grossing Hindi film ever. With an India net collection of Rs 248.43 crore in just 10 days, the film has outpaced major star-driven releases like
Shah Rukh Khan
's Dunki (Rs 227 crore) and
Ajay Devgn
's Singham Again (Rs 247.86 crore).
Mohit Suri Spills On 20 Years In Bollywood - Ahaan & Aneet, Alia Bhatt Dream Collab & More
Starring newcomers
Ahaan Panday
and
Aneet Padda
, Saiyaara was initially viewed as a promising debut vehicle. But what followed was a box office phenomenon that not only defied expectations but also reaffirmed the power of storytelling and music-driven romance. Under the deft direction of Mohit Suri and backed by a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack, Saiyaara struck a chord with audiences across metros and mass belts alike.
Released with solid buzz, Saiyaara opened with an impressive Rs 21.5 crore on its first Friday.
What truly stunned the trade was the film's phenomenal growth over the opening weekend — Rs 26 crore on Saturday and a massive Rs 35.75 crore on Sunday. With a Week 1 total of Rs 172.75 crore, the film had already entered blockbuster territory. What followed in its second weekend cemented its status as a bonafide hit. On Day 8 (2nd Friday), Saiyaara held steady with Rs 18 crore, followed by a major jump on Saturday to Rs 26.5 crore, and then an estimated Rs 31.18 crore on Sunday.

The 10-day total stood at a staggering Rs 248.43 crore, just enough to inch past Singham Again and Dunki, which had the backing of massive star power and franchise value.
What makes Saiyaara's feat more remarkable is that it achieved this position with debutant actors in lead roles, something of this stature was seen about 25 years ago when
Hrithik Roshan
made his debut with Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai which had made about Rs 44 crore back in 2000.
If inflation is adjusted it would made about Rs 200 crore now.
Saiyaara has gone past some heavyweights like Dunki which boasted the return of
Rajkumar Hirani
and Shah Rukh Khan's post-Pathaan and Jawan outing, and Singham Again brought back the reliable Ajay Devgn–Rohit Shetty duo, Saiyaara relied purely on content, emotional depth, and soul-stirring music.
This surge also places Saiyaara ahead of films like Drishyam 2 (Rs 239.67 Cr), The Kerala Story (Rs 239.05 Cr), and Krrish 3 (Rs 231.79 Cr), all of which were declared blockbusters or higher. Notably, it's also breathing down the neck of URI: The Surgical Strike (Rs 244.14 Cr), which was termed an 'All Time Blockbuster.'
With the release of two films in Dhadak 2 and Son of Sardaar on 1st August and one can expect Saiyaara to lose some steam. But the film is fully capable of entering the Top 25 hits of the Hindi cinema by the end of the day.

Saiyaara box office collection day 20: Aditya Chopra predicted Ahaan Panday, Aneet Padda's film would earn Rs 100 cr; it's earned more than three times as much
Mohit Suri's romantic drama Saiyaara, starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, was never meant to be a Yash Raj Films project. Aditya Chopra's banner is best known for delivering iconic love stories like his late legendary father Yash Chopra's Kabhi Kabhie (1976), Chandni (1989), Lamhe (1991), Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), Veer-Zaara (2004), and Aditya's own Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Mohabattein (2000), and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008). On the other hand, Suri, who's a product of Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt's Vishesh Films, is renowned for helming Aashiqui 2 (2013), Ek Villain (2014), and Half Girlfriend (2017). But their combination has wielded great results, as Saiyaara has crossed the Rs 500 crore milestone at the worldwide box office and the Rs 300 crore mark at the domestic box office in less than three weeks. It's the highest-grossing romantic film of India, and also the highest-grossing Indian movie starring newcomers. On Wednesday (day 20), it added another Rs 2 crore to the Indian box office, a slight dip from its Tuesday earnings of Rs 2.5 crore. The current box office collection of Saiyaara in India stands at Rs 306.6 crore, as per Sacnilk. In an interview with PTI, Suri revealed that Aditya Chopra had predicted Saiyaara's success, yet probably not to this historic extent. In fact, the producer predicted the film would make Rs 100 crore right after watching just the rough edit. 'I didn't really fall for that I think. I was not too sure. I was still like, 'Let me edit the film. Let me bring it down,'' said Suri. Interestingly, Saiyaara was initially being developed as Aashiqui 3 by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series. However, since Suri wanted to take time in finishing his script, the movie then went to Anurag Basu, who's developing the threequel with Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela. 'Once there was no sequel pressure or of a star cast which had an opening number to live up to, I stopped caring about the commerce. And I just went and made a film,' said Suri, adding, 'If I was making a sequel, or a franchise, I would be somewhere playing to a commerce like 'Let's make it better than Aashiqui 2. Let's make the music better'. I didn't do that. I did what's best for the film. It was such a liberating process.' It also serves as a launchpad for Ahaan, the first cousin of Ananya Panday and the nephew of Chunky Panday. Both the actors were strategically kept away from promotions, which seems to have paid rich dividends. 'I genuinely felt that if we arm these kids with a story, a narrative, a song, then they have a better fighting chance rather than just the way they look or how they are photographed,' Suri reasons.

Amid the success, there were rumours that the film will hit an OTT platform soon. However, the makers took to their official Instagram handle to clear the air. Ashwin Kumar, the director of the film and founder of Kleem Productions, shared a note. It read: 'We have been receiving a lot of buzz about Mahavatar Narsimha coming to OTT soon — but let us clarify: For now, our film is ONLY available in theatres across the whole wide world. We have not finalised any OTT platform yet. Please believe only authentic updates shared from our official handles.' The success of the film has also given rise to several memes with people drawing comparisons with Hollywood film Avatar. One of the meme reads: 'America — We have Avatar. India — We have MahaAvatar.' With no big releases scheduled for this weekend, films Mahavatar Narsimha and Saiyaara have another week to add to their collections. The films might get affected in the Independence weekend with two big films hitting the big screen: Hrithik Roshan's War 2 and Rajinikanth's Coolie. Meanwhile, Saiyaara has crossed Rs 300 crore mark.

Kajol snaps at reporter for asking her to speak in Hindi; fans say, ‘Then stop doing Hindi films'
Bollywood actor Kajol has once again made headlines for snapping at the paparazzi. The actor recently lost her cool at a reporter during the Maharashtra State Film Awards 2025 held in Mumbai on Tuesday. At the event, Kajol was honoured with the prestigious Raj Kapoor Award for her contribution to Indian cinema. However, during her interaction with the media, when a reporter asked her to speak in Hindi, she snapped back. In a viral video, Kajol is seen speaking in Marathi to the reporters, calling the award a 'big deal'. However, when one reporter asked her to repeat her words in Hindi, Kajol got irritated and said, 'Abhi main Hindi mein bolu (Now should I speak in Hindi too)?' She added, 'Jisko samjhna hai woh samjh lenge (Those who want to understand what I said, will figure it out).' A post shared by First Saw It Here (@firstsawithere) Many on social media didn't agree with Kajol's behaviour and her refusal to speak in Hindi. A comment read, 'Then why do you make films in Hindi?' Another comment said, 'Ask her to stop doing Hindi films. She should only do Marathi films.' A user on X, formerly Twitter, wrote, 'After earning so much money and fame through the Hindi audience, Kajol says 'Ab Hindi mein bolun? Jisko samajhna hai samajh le'.' At the award show, Kajol wore her mother's black and white saree. She received the award from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and delivered her acceptance speech in fluent Marathi. 'It is my birthday today,' the actor told the crowd after accepting the award. Kajol attended the ceremony with her mother, Tanuja, and told the audience that her mother had received the same award years ago, and now her receiving it made the moment even more special. On the work front, Kajol will return as her character Noyonika in The Trial Season 2. She was last seen in film Sarzameen, which also starred Ibrahim Ali Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film was panned by critics. Kajol has Maharagni: Queen of Queens in the pipeline, which will also star Prabhu Deva and Naseeruddin Shah.
