King Charles and Queen Camilla Pose at the Colosseum in Rome
King Charles and Queen Camilla touched down in Rome yesterday evening for their official visit on behalf of the British government. And today, they took in some of the spectacular sights the city has to offer.
The King and Queen posed in front of the iconic Colosseum for a photograph, waving to crowds gathered below. They arrived at the famous amphitheater to cheers and the sounds bands of the Welsh Guards and the Italian Sassari Brigade Band before making their way to the viewing platform.
Earlier, the couple received a military Ceremonial Welcome at the President's Quirinale Palace, including a flypast of the Italian Frecce Tricolori and British Red Arrows. After that, they made their way to the Altare della Patria to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Crowds who had begun to gather at the site were moved back before the royal arrival, however could still be heard cheering as the royal car pulled up.
'We wanted to cheer the King and Queen,' member of the public Paul Sabucci, told T&C. Paul, who is from the UK but lives in Abruzzo, Italy, and had come to the Altare della Patria with his wife Sandra to see the royals, added, 'It's a unique occasion. And I think especially on their 20th wedding anniversary, it's a big occasion. And to celebrate the King, particularly with his health problems, he's being so brave to carry on working and overcome all the issues, really appreciate the effort he's making and all the hard work he's putting in. So the least thing we can do is come and show some support.'
Zoe, from Kent, was on holiday with her sister and came across the royal visit. 'It's so special that everyone still gets that excitement and warm feeling knowing that the British are coming over,' she said.
Tomorrow is the couple's wedding anniversary and they will be guests of honor at a State Banquet.

Carlos Alcaraz's Family Includes a Former Tennis Pro Dad
Professional tennis player Carlos Alcaraz comes from an athletic family that includes a former tennis pro dad. A 2023 Vogue profile story on Alcaraz, 22, sketched out his family background. The Spanish tennis phenom is playing in the French Open final on June 8 against Italian Jannik Sinner. Advertisement According to People, Alcaraz's family includes his father Carlos Alcaraz González and mother Virginia Garfia Escandon, and his three brothers, Álvaro, Sergio and Jaime. Alcaraz was raised "in a village outside Murcia called El Palmar," Spain, which he still visits on weekends, according to Vogue. "Some 40 years ago, his great-uncle built a tennis club there, on what was a clay-pigeon shooting range," according to Vogue, which said Alcaraz's dad played professional tennis "until he couldn't afford to continue." Alcaraz told Vogue he was born "with tennis in my blood," and his dad "became the director" of the family tennis club. Alcaraz also has an older brother named Alvaro, who "played in tournaments before him" and two younger brothers who are "passionate about tennis."
