We're inundated with so many other people's thoughts that it's fun to take the time to discover how you feel, and that's what these last few years have been for me: rediscovering who I am. Time flies, but I feel like I'm in a part of my career that is just beginning. Sometimes when you feel like it's the end, it's truly the beginning. And I've just been surprised day after day with what's happening in my life. I came back home to be in my garden, and I stripped back everything to find out who I am underneath all of this. I think we're all our own harshest critics, but I think it's best to have a very simple skincare and hair-care routine, making sure that it's cruelty-free, vegan, and as ecofriendly as possible. I think that intention is really important when making these choices. It's funny, because it may seem that I was superficial in my younger years, but I've always been a big reader, a lover of film, and a poet. When you're in the public eye, these caricatures of your life are created. But I've been the same homemaker and mother even if I was covered in glitter. Now, I just want to make it okay to walk a red carpet, go to the grocery store, or be on the cover of a magazine without makeup. I have so many people come up to me all the time and say, 'Thank you so much for doing this.' I was doing it for myself initially, but it's nice that the message has resonated with so many people, and I've been able to apply it in my work by starting my skincare line and working with brands like Biolage.
