"Many applicants fail to meet either the document requirements or eligibility guidelines, leading to unsuccessful applications on the appointment day.
We strongly advise applicants to carefully read the tatkaal advisory and tatkaal undertaking before appearing for their appointments," he said.
The passport office has issued a comprehensive list of mandatory original documents that applicants must carry. "Under Section 5 of the Passports Act 1967 and Rule 5 of the Passports Rules 1980, the Passport Authority may conduct necessary enquiries and require additional information or documents for proper disposal of applications," Dr Deore explained.

Key documents include QR code birth certificates mentioning Aadhaar numbers, Class 10 matriculation passing certificates, latest complete eAadhaar with scannable QR codes, PAN cards with holograms, voter IDs with hologram stickers, and driving licenses. Applicants wanting to add spouse name, marriage certificates or joint photo declaration (Annexure J) are required.
The passport office has strictly prohibited the use of "smart ID cards" - plastic versions of official documents printed by private entities.
"Aadhaar is not accepted as date of birth proof. Cut-out Aadhaar cards and smart ID cards printed on plastic by private stationery shops will not be accepted," Deore said.
Applicants have been advised to download mAadhaar and DigiLocker mobile applications before visiting the PSK. "Before submitting online applications and visiting PSK, applicants must fetch their birth certificates, Aadhaar, Class 10 certificates and other documents on these apps to verify authenticity," said Dr Deore.
He clarified that only DigiLocker-issued documents shared during online application submission would be accepted, while documents merely uploaded to DigiLocker Drive would not be treated as authentic.
The passport officer also advised applicants to scan QR codes on supporting documents using DigiLocker and mAadhaar apps before their PSK visit to ensure document verification goes smoothly.
For minor applicants, additional requirements include duly filled Annexure D with both parents' consent and both parents' original passports.

Erratic rainfall delays flowering at Kas Plateau this year
1 2 Pune: Kas Plateau, a Unesco World Heritage Site in Satara district, is experiencing a delayed flowering season this year with unpredictable rainfall disrupting the usual mid-Aug bloom, damaging many early flowers and affecting the display of rare, endemic species. Environment researcher Datta Jagtap said there was a lot of fog at the plateau because of the inconsistent monsoon pattern this year. "The cloudy weather accompanied by downpour has adversely impacted flowering this time around. Sunlight levels are not as high as they usually are at this time of the year, delaying the flowering season," he said. Residents and nature lovers are postponing visits to the plateau till Sept-end due to delayed flowering. "Although the plateau officially opens for tourists in the last week of Aug, many tour operators I've checked with are planning to start taking groups to the plateau only by mid-Sept," Sakshi Kulkarni, a resident of Wanowrie, said. Flowers like Habenaria and Utricularia malabarica are expected to be abundant this year. "We expect good blooming towards mid-September. So, we will conduct our tours during that time. Chances of seeing abundant Karvi are lesser this year, but there will be many local species that will bloom at the plateau. If the rainfall continues throughout Aug, it may impact flowering," Siddhesh Save, owner of Save Tours, said. Vinay Gupta, who runs Adventure Geek, said they were yet to start taking bookings for Kas Plateau tours. "I am waiting to take some good photographs at the plateau. Last year, I got photos of Karvi flowers. This year, I want to focus on a lot of endemic species," Satya Chandran, a nature photographer, said. Commuters want proper direction boards, more wardens, ticket counters at five Metro stations during Ganeshotsav
1 2 Pune: Commuters are counting on Metro administration to put in place direction boards, additional staff and wardens at key stations to handle the crowd during Ganeshotsav effectively. Metro officials said they were planning special crowd management measures at five key stations — Mandai, Kasba Peth, Swargate, PMC and Civil Court. Pune Metro's daily footfall has already crossed 2 lakh, and the rush is expected to surge further during Ganeshotsav. To manage the crowd, Maha Metro has increased train frequency to every 6 minutes starting Aug 15. Ganesh Mandals have, however, requested extended train operations till midnight for the entire 10-day festival period. Sagar Kharat, a Ganesh mandal worker from Shukrawar Peth, said, "People step out to visit pandals late in the evening during the festival. The authorities should operate Metro for more hours, at least till midnight, to avoid the rush of private vehicles on city roads." Two meetings were held with the city police to discuss the crowd management plans. More staff and wardens will be deployed at all the stations to assist commuters," a Maha Metro official said. Travellers continued to face confusion regarding entry and exit points at Metro stations. Vijay Kulkarni, a resident of Kasba Peth, said the rush at the Metro station surged over the last few days. "An entry point near the Sattoti police chowkey is still not fully functional. We expect this entry-exit point to be open for commuters all through the day to reduce chaos. We also want the authorities to put up boards to guide commuters on how they can reach landmarks like Shaniwarwada or Kasba Peth Ganapati Mandir," Kulkarni said. People travelling from Swargate Metro station expressed displeasure over the incomplete entry-exit point towards Sarasbaug and MSRTC bus stand. Vishal Jadhav, a regular traveller, said, "Swargate station has a huge entry-exit point at Jedhe Chowk. We expect an entry point towards Sarasbaug to be functional too before the festival." FOB near Sambhaji Garden nears completion A foot-over-bridge near Chhatrapati Sambhaji Garden Metro station is nearing completion and could benefit commuters during Ganeshotsav, but it's uncertain if it will be open on time due to pending inspection and certification. Mahabaleshwar, Thoseghar & Mahalaxmi temple see large crowds; traffic on highways at a standstill
Kolhapur: Due to the extended weekend, popular tourist destinations in Kolhapur and Satara districts — including Mahabaleshwar — are fully booked. The surge in travel has led to heavy traffic on highways and congestion at several tourist spots, as a large number of vehicles make their way to these locations. Rain, road widening and flyover construction works have been causing delays of about two hours on the Pune-Bengaluru national highway due to heavy traffic congestion. Toll plazas at Khed Shivapur, Anewadi, Tasawade, Kini and Kognoli are also witnessing long queues. Jayant Sawant, an IT professional from Pune, said: "I was returning to my hometown Kolhapur, and the MSRTC Shivshahi bus journey took me seven hours to reach Kolhapur from Swargate, which is usually covered in five hours. At the Karad and Malkapur stretch, the bus got stuck for more than an hour due to severe traffic congestion." Hill station Mahabaleshwar is also packed with tourists enjoying on-and-off drizzling rains, a pleasant climate, lush green surroundings and a foggy atmosphere. Prices of hotels are seeing a sharp hike. Tourist spots like Lingmala Waterfall, Mahabaleshwar Temple, Krishnabai Temple, Kate's Point, Kas Plateau, Tapola, Bamnoli, Thoseghar Waterfall, Chalkewadi Windmills among others are seeing a huge rush of tourists. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Over 3 lakh devotees visited the revered Mahalaxmi temple in the city on Friday and Saturday.
