Amanda Seyfried clears up Wicked audition speculation with Cynthia Erivo & reflects on missed Marvel role

Al Bawaba22-03-2025
ALBAWABA - Amanda Seyfried may have resolved months of fan conjecture regarding Cynthia Erivo, 38, and Wicked auditions shade.
On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Amanda said, 'I knew Wicked was coming, so I was able to really prepare, and I'm telling you, I've never felt so solid in my voice as I did during the auditions.'
'I also got to sing with Cynthia [Erivo], and that was a moment in itself,' Amanda remarked on the show.
Cynthia told The New York Times in November that Ariana Grande, 31, playing Glinda, was 'no surprise whatsoever.'
"I said, "Thank God.'" Cynthia said, 'Thank goodness, because it was not the two ladies that I was auditioning with.' Ariana recounted.

In 2022, Seyfried, 39, revealed that she had auditioned for Glinda, but she didn't say if she auditioned with Cynthia.
She auditioned while filming The Dropout, in which she played disgraced scientist Elizabeth Holmes and earned an Emmy.
Amanda accepts her Glinda role denial. She even praised Ariana's performance.
'I do, again, think everything occurs for a reason,' she remarked. 'I also got to sing with Cynthia, and that was a moment in itself.'
Glinda has also mentioned Renee Rapp, but she hasn't confirmed it.
Amanda declined the role of Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy with Chris Pratt almost a decade ago.
The actress spoke about her career blessings while promoting her new Peacock series, Long Bright River.
When asked about ones that almost happened, Seyfried acknowledged the potential to star in James Gunn's 2014 Marvel Comics-based superhero flick.

In a March 20 Happy Sad Confused podcast interview, she admits to feeling risky when offered the part.
"Appearing in the first Marvel movie to bomb isn't good for your career," she told Josh Horowitz.
The film's talking tree and raccoon made me think it would be Marvel's first disaster and Chris Pratt and I would never collaborate again. Was wrong.
The Allentown, Pennsylvania native never considered playing Gamora, played by Zoe Saldaña, a risky choice from Gunn, who co-wrote and directed the production.
'[He's] a genius, and he's fun, and he's a brilliant director, and he can make anything work,' she remarked.
But I was too terrified. I would rather not suffer for work in a dangerous professional stage.
Guardians of the Galaxy grossed $773.4 million worldwide and cost $195.9 million to make.
Despite the success of superhero films, Seyfried remains true to her instincts and does not play the part.
'I had done some green screen stuff, and it wasn't my cup of tea, and I don't regret any decision,' she said. In that moment, I decided to prioritize my preferences. This decision was excellent for me then, and it continues to be excellent for me now.
The Mean Girls actress couldn't be happier for everyone in Guardians of the Galaxy, believing everything turned out as planned.
I think Zoe Saldaña, Chris, and everyone involved in the movie are having a wonderful time, and it works for them, which I love. I appreciate that I trusted my instincts.
When Seyfried thought she had succeeded as an actor, she reflected on her career since 1996.
'I realized I had entered into a sphere when I was in Mama Mia!' she told Horowitz. 'When Mama Mia! was big, I had additional opportunities.'
She added, 'Over the years, the opportunities were still there, but they changed as you did, based on your decisions. Additionally, you're aging and evolving your preferences.
I'm happy to still have many possibilities, and now I feel like I've established a place where people trust and appreciate me as an actor.

Emma Thompson reveals how Donald Trump stalked her on ‘Primary Colors' set

ALBAWABA - Emma Thompson shares shocking story of Donald Trump's unexpected on-set pursuit. Emma Thompson, who is a guest of honor at the Locarno Film Festival this year, told an intriguing story this morning about a weird meeting she had with Donald Trump, the 47th president. Thompson was asked about filming the 1998 Mike Nichols movie Primary Colors during a job Q&A with a large crowd. She said she was in her room one day on the set of the movie when the phone rang. NEW YORK, NEW YORK - DECEMBER 09: Emma Thompson (Photo by Jason Mendez /Getty Images via AFP) "Trump was there." "Hello, this is Donald Trump," he said. "How can I help you?" I asked because I thought it was a joke. Thompson made a joke: "Maybe he needed help finding his way." The British star went on, "Then he said, 'I'd love for you to come stay at one of my beautiful places.'" We might be able to have dinner together. I told them, "That's really nice." Thanks a lot. I'll get back to you. Thompson, imitating Trump's unique voice, said she didn't understand why the former Apprentice host called her or how he got the number to her trailer phone at first. But she quickly saw what was going on. Thompson said, "I knew that day that my divorce decree had been sent through." "And I'm sure he has people looking for good people to take out on his arm." He was looking for a kind divorcee, you know. Plus he found the number in my cabin. That is stalking, you know." Thompson also said, "I could have gone on a date with Trump and had something interesting to say." I was empowered to change the course of American history. WASHINGTON, DC - AUGUST 07: U.S. President Donald Trump (/AFP) In another part of the session, Thompson talked about several movies she had worked on, such as Richard Curtis's Love Actually. Thompson expressed her constant confusion about the movie's popularity, attributing it to its unique approach. "I mean, I'm honestly always amazed that movie made it this long. It's not that I don't like the movie. She said, "I like it a lot, but it's weird." Thompson said that the scene in the movie where her character finds out that her partner has been cheating on her "touched a nerve" because "we get a heartbreak, especially women; we have to hide it because we don't want people to see it." "So what moves you? Isn't she crying?" Thompson said, "It's her covering it up afterward, making the bed, going downstairs, and being happy." When asked about her part in Harry Potter, however, Thompson wasn't as interested in talking about how she did. "That's not really an important part of my creative work." I'm sorry. I don't even mean to be rude to those of you who like Harry Potter, but you know, I came in, did a bit with glasses and a lot of hair, and then left having been quite well paid,' she said to loud laughs from the Locarno audience. Thompson got the Leopard Club Award last night in Locarno for his work over the years. The event lasts until August 16.

Why Trump is talking about Euphoria actress Sydney Sweeney?

US President Donald Trump has publicly expressed support for actress Sydney Sweeney following a wave of criticism directed at a recent American Eagle advertisement featuring the Emmy-nominated star. In a post on Truth Social on Monday, Trump wrote, "Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the HOTTEST ad out there. Go get 'em Sydney!" Sweeney, known for her roles in Euphoria and The White Lotus, stars in a jeans commercial where she says, "Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair colour, personality and even eye colour. My jeans are blue." The ad, launched on July 23, quickly sparked debate on social media. Critics took issue with the wordplay on "genes" and "jeans," interpreting it as echoing themes associated with eugenics, a discredited ideology centered on selective breeding to "improve" humanity. The controversy touched on sensitive discussions about race and beauty standards. However, many defended Sweeney and dismissed the backlash as exaggerated. American Eagle stood by the campaign, clarifying that it solely highlights the brand's denim products. "Her jeans. Her story," the company stated, adding, "We'll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way." Reports revealed that Sweeney has been a registered Republican in Florida since 2024, although she has remained largely silent on political matters. The actress previously addressed speculation surrounding her political stance after videos from her mother's birthday party circulated online showing guests wearing "Make America Great Again" hats. Sweeney urged the public to "stop making assumptions" and not to politicize what she described as an "innocent celebration." Trump acknowledged Sweeney's political affiliation in an interview on Sunday, saying, "You'd be surprised at how many people are Republicans. If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic."
