One of alleged hitmen in Sindiso Magaqa murder pleads guilty
The late ANC leader in Harry Gwala district, Mluleki Ndobe, who was a mayor, and municipal manager Zwelibanzi Sikhosana, were also arrested in connection with Magaqa's murder but their charges were later withdrawn. Ndobe committed suicide in 2020.
In his guilty plea, Ncengwa said: 'I confirm that I am the accused herein and that I know and understand the charges preferred against me, which are appearing on the indictment. My legal representative has explained to me the consequences of making this statement and I fully understand it.'
Ncengwa said he freely, voluntarily and without being influenced pleaded guilty to the charges against him, adding that he made admissions to the charges 'in sound and sober senses'.
Ncengwa said Magaqa was shot with an AK47 rifle by his late co-accused, Jabulani Mdunge. Mdunge died in a shoot-out with police during a foiled cash-in-transit heist in September 2017.

Kariega kidnapping accused allegedly demanded R1.1m
The two men charged with the kidnapping of an elderly Kariega woman appeared in the town's magistrate's court on Wednesday. Ayabulela Busakwe, 31, and Andile Mathumbu, 29, face provisional charges of kidnapping and extortion. It was also revealed that the men allegedly demanded R1.1m in ransom. Inquiry into Mkhwanazi allegations to start hearing evidence on September 1
The commission of inquiry into allegations of corruption in the criminal justice system is due to begin its hearings on September 1. This was announced by commission chairperson Mbuyiseli Madlanga, a recently retired Constitutional Court judge. President Cyril Ramaphosa established the commission to look into allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who accused police minister Senzo Mchunu of interfering with police investigations and overstepping his role when he ordered the disbandment of the police political killings task team. In July Madlanga said of the inquiry's mandate: 'The entities and persons, people we must investigate are the SAPS, metro police of the three metros in Gauteng, the National Prosecuting Authority, the State Security Agency, the judiciary, correctional services and any institution in the criminal justice system. 'These entities and people are to be investigated in relation to infiltration of law enforcement, intelligence and associated institutions within the criminal justice system by criminal syndicates.' Madlanga said after three months the commission wanted to be in a position to submit an interim report to the president and make recommendations regarding action that needs needed to be taken. Two youths arrested over attempted robbery of MPs in Cape Town
DA parliamentary chief whip George Michalakis named the MPs as Ian Cameron, Lisa Schickerling and Nicholas Gotsell. They were returning from an oversight visit to the police training college in Philippi when they were accosted. "Gotsell was hospitalised, but is not in a critical condition, and Cameron sustained minor injuries. Cameron was able to act quickly and in self-defence to prevent further injury to any of them. All three MPs are safe."
