Hyderabad's proposed Unity Mall to be redesigned as 50-storey tower
The government is believed to have approved the revised plans to build the 50-storey tower at a cost of Rs 1,500 crore in PPP mode on the 5.16 acres of land belonging to the Telangana State Leather Industries Promotion Corporation in Raidurg.
According to officials, the redesigned mall will have at least five basements for parking and other facilities, six floors dedicated to hosting exhibitions for textile, handloom and crafts products and 39 floors for commercial usage. The total area of the tower would be 30 lakh sq ft.
The implementing agency of the project is Telangana Trade Promotion Corporation (TGTPC). Officials said that the estimated cost of the project is Rs 1,500 crore and will be built under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
It may be recalled that the Union government decided to construct 'Unity Malls' across the country under 'One District - One Product' scheme, which is envisaged to exhibit and promote the local handlooms and crafts at one place.
As a part of this, the Union government had allocated Rs 202 crore of which Rs 101 crore was released for constructing the Unity Mall.
Gachibowli land value behind 50-storey decision
Initially, the state government intended to construct the mall with six floors. But, after considering the land value in the Gachibowli area, it was decided to opt for a tower to optimally utilise the land value. Officials said that the Centre has given approval for Detailed Project Report (DPR) for constructing the 50-storey mall. The Airports Authority of India also issued No Objection Certificate.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy reviewed the progress of this project. During the meeting, the officials explained the status of the project. According to the officials, 90% of the excavation work has been completed at a cost of Rs 10.1 crore. With this, the chief minister instructed the officials to speed up the works and call for tenders as early as possible.

Indians now have to pay more for ChatGPT Plus and Pro plans: Check new prices
OpenAI has quietly raised the price of ChatGPT Plus and Pro plans in India. Previously, ChatGPT users in India who wanted access to advanced features had to pay in dollars, but now the company has introduced these paid plans in Rupees. While it is now easier for ChatGPT users to subscribe to its paid plans, Indian customers will have to pay significantly more than they used to. To give you a quick recap, ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscription plans were priced at $20 and $200, which approximately amounted to Rs 1,750 and Rs 17,500, respectively. But now that OpenAI has introduced Indian pricing for these plans, ChatGPT users will have to shell out Rs 1,999 and Rs 19,900. The increased prices are also applicable to those looking to subscribe to the company's Team and Business plans will also have to pay more than they previously did. This means both ChatGPT Plus and Pro users will have to pay around 14 per cent more every month to access the AI chatbot's advanced features. When OpenAI CEO Sam Altman visited India last year, several startup founders and developers had pointed out that the high cost associated with ChatGPT paid plans was one of the barriers to wider adoption. The AI startup was also reportedly working on a much cheaper Go plan, which was expected to be announced alongside GPT-5, but there are no signs of the pocket-friendly plan till now. ChatGPT is quite popular amongst Indians, but other players like Perplexity AI and Google Gemini are offering access to their paid plans for free to customers and students. While Perplexity is giving away one year of free Pro access to Airtel users, Google's premium Gemini AI plans come with some benefits, like additional cloud storage and services like YouTube Premium. According to app intelligence firm Appfigures, ChatGPT has generated more than $2 billion in global consumer spending since its launch in May 2023. Compared to other AI chatbots like Claude, Copilot and Grok, ChatGPT has earned more than 30 times the combined lifetime spending of its rivals. Figures also reveal that, in 2025, ChatGPT's mobile app made $1.35 billion, recording 673 per cent more than the previous year. To give you an estimate, the app is generating almost $193 million per month.

T.N. CM Stalin writes to PM Modi flagging impact of U.S. tariffs on State; seeks relief measures
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Saturday (August 16, 2025) wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the considerable impact of United States' tariffs on Tamil Nadu, including the threat of layoffs in export-oriented sectors, and urged the Union government to take immediate measures, including providing a special financial relief package to support exporters. 'I wish to bring to your attention a matter of considerable concern to Tamil Nadu, as it faces severe implications due to the current 25% tariff and its potential escalation to 50%,' Mr. Stalin wrote. 'In the last financial year, while 20% of India's total goods exports of $433.6 billion were to the United States, 31% of Tamil Nadu's $52.1 billion goods exports went there. This higher dependency on the U.S. market clearly implies that tariff impact on Tamil Nadu will be disproportionately greater than for most other Indian states. Hence, this tariff has significant implications for Tamil Nadu's manufacturing sector and employment scenario,' he pointed out. 'The most-affected sectors are textiles, apparels, machinery, auto components, gems and jewelry, leather, footwear, marine products, and chemicals. Even more concerning is that all these sectors are labour intensive, wherein any export slowdown will quickly result in mass layoffs,' Mr. Stalin pointed out. Tamil Nadu accounted for 28% of India's textile exports in 2024-2025, the largest contributor among all Indian States. The textile sector employed nearly 75 lakh people and with a 25% tariff and a proposed 50% tariff, an estimated 30 lakh jobs were at immediate risk. 'To mitigate this crisis, it is essential to address structural issues that have long hindered our export competitiveness,' he said. 'In this regard, I had extensive consultations with the industry associations from the affected sectors. Based on these consultations, it is evident that the textile sector urgently needs support in two aspects: correction of the GST inverted duty structure for the man-made fiber value chain, by bringing the entire chain under a 5% GST slab and exemption of import duty on all varieties of cotton,' Mr. Stalin said. In addition, extension of 30% collateral-free loans under the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) with a 5% interest subvention and a two-year moratorium on principal repayment, along with enhancing Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) benefits to 5%, extending pre- and post-shipment credit to all textile exports, including yarn, have been highlighted as other important steps to strengthen our export competitiveness, he said. 'Similar challenges are being faced by other sectors due to tariff impacts and competitive pressures in global trade,' Mr. Stalin said. 'To provide immediate relief, the Union government needs to consider introducing a special interest subvention scheme for all exporters affected by tariffs to improve liquidity and reduce cost burdens and accelerating Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and bilateral arrangements to offset high-tariff market risks,' he said. 'Considering the scale of the problem, a special financial relief package including a moratorium on principal repayment, similar to the one implemented during the COVID period is necessary to support our exporters. We look forward to such an initiative at the national level like the one from the Government of Brazil, which has announced tax deferrals and tax credits to exporters,' Mr. Stalin said. Tamil Nadu's thriving manufacturing sector is facing a never seen before crisis, threatening millions of livelihoods across various sectors, he said. and requested the Prime Minister's urgent intervention in this matter, in consultation with the relevant ministries and industry stakeholders. Mr. Stalin assured Tamil Nadu's full cooperation in implementing all necessary measures to navigate this trade predicament.

India bets on mature-node chipmaking; China+1 trend boosts manufacturing role: Report
AI image India's semiconductor plans are beginning to take shape, with a deliberate focus on producing mature-node chips rather than competing in the global race for cutting-edge technology. The country is targeting the 28nm to 65nm range to meet rising demand in sectors such as automotive, telecommunications, and industrial electronics. An analysis by Bastion Research cited by news agency ANI notes that while India has yet to make major progress in building advanced semiconductor fabs, it is strategically positioning itself to fill a 'critical gap' in the global supply chain. 'Though today there is not much to share as far as India's progress in establishing a semiconductor fab is concerned, one thing is clear – India's semiconductor ambitions are taking shape with a strategic focus on mature-node manufacturing,' the report stated. The study compared India's current stage to Taiwan and South Korea's semiconductor journey in the 1970s–1990s. India is already gaining ground in system integration, particularly in automotive electronics, telecom, consumer devices, and medical technology. The country's talent pool and technical capabilities are seen as matching global standards, with rapid progress in scaling operations. The report adds that the global 'China +1' strategy is benefiting India, as companies seek to diversify supply chains away from China. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why Home Decor Enthusiasts Love This Lamp topgadgetlife Shop Now Undo The government's Semicon India Programme, launched in 2021 with Rs 76,000 crore in incentives, focuses on attracting manufacturers, establishing fabs, and building a local supply chain. Recent approvals under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) include four new projects worth Rs 4,600 crore in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Punjab, taking the total ISM portfolio to 10 projects across six states with investments of Rs 1.6 lakh crore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Independence Day that India-made semiconductor chips will hit the market by the end of this year. New Delhi has already approved the construction of six semiconductor plants.
