MLK Jr.'s family issues a statement regarding the released documents by Trump administration

Independent7 hours ago
The administration of Donald Trump has released details of the FBI investigation into Martin Luther King Jr.'s killing, as part of a push to declassify records related to infamous assassinations.
The King family maintains that James Earl Ray was not the shooter and will examine the newly released files for further insights.
A 1999 wrongful death lawsuit brought by the King family concluded that King was the victim of a conspiracy involving Loyd Jowers and unnamed co-conspirators, including government agencies, and that Ray was set up.
The Justice Department has stated that Jowers' allegations of a conspiracy are 'unworthy of belief' and likely fabricated.
The King family also emphasized that the civil rights leader was subjected to a 'disinformation and surveillance campaign' orchestrated by the FBI's COINTELPRO program.

White House issues savage reply to Hunter Biden's foul-mouthed rant blasting Trump's mass deportations

The White House has hit back at Hunter Biden 's foul-mouthed rant against the Trump administration's efforts to deport illegal immigrants. The former first son slammed the government during a three-hour interview with YouTuber Andrew Callaghan, also targeting Democrats who sat idly by and watched as Trump rounded up and deported immigrants who have called America home. During their wide-ranging discussion, Biden pondered who would clean hotel rooms, wash dishes and do the gardening if it wasn't for migrants who 'figured out a way to get here' and were willing to work. But the White House didn't hold back in its reply, pointing to a recent ruthless attack on a border agent and a savage reminder of Biden's past addiction struggles. 'A CBP agent was just shot in the face by two criminal illegal aliens that Joe Biden let into the country,' White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told Fox News. 'But Hunter is more concerned about who is going to clean up his hotel room after his benders. 'This sort of callous, self-interested maliciousness from the entire Biden Crime Family is exactly why Joe Biden left office with record-low approval ratings.' One of Joe Biden's final acts as president was granting his son a full pardon for any crimes 'he has committed or may have committed ' dating back to 2014. At the time, he said his son was being 'selectively and unfairly prosecuted.' Biden has also extensively acknowledged his drug fueled past, sharing a statement at the time which read: 'I have admitted and taken responsibility for my mistakes during the darkest days of my addiction – mistakes that have been exploited to publicly humiliate and shame me and my family for political sport.' Back in 2021, audio emerged in which Biden expressed concerns that Russians had stolen a laptop containing sensitive information after he partied with them in Las Vegas and took drugs in a hotel room. After Jackson's savage takedown, Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin also weighed in, asking: 'Is it really a surprise that Hunter Biden has no respect for Americans who are upset about the criminal illegal aliens let into our country by Joe Biden? 'Under Biden's reckless open-border policies, terrorists, gang members, murderers, and child pedophiles were released into American communities. 'These policies had real consequences. Young Americans, like Laken Riley and Jocelyn Nungaray, lost their lives because of illegal aliens who should have never been in this country.' 'President Trump and Secretary Noem will never abandon these victims or their families. DHS will continue to deliver on the mandate of the American people to make America safe again.' Laken Riley was a 22-year-old nursing student who was murdered while jogging at the University of Georgia by Venezuelan illegal immigrant José Antonio Ibarra in February 2024. He is currently serving a life sentence in prison without the possibility of parole. Twelve-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray was sexually assaulted and murdered in July 2024. Two Venezuelan illegal migrants have been charged over her death. Biden hosted Callaghan in his native Wilmington, Delaware, and talked at length about his struggles with crack cocaine addiction, the infamous laptop and his views on politics. He was particularly critical of Democrats for not doing more to prevent Trump's mass deportation scheme. 'F*** you,' Biden said. 'How do you think your hotel room gets cleaned? How do you think you have food on your f***ing table? Who do you think washes your dishes? Who do you think does your f***ing garden? 'Who do you think is here by the f***ing sheer f***ing just grit and will that they figured out a way to get here because they thought that they could give themselves and their family a better chance.' Biden expressed disgust that Trump has 'somehow convinced all of us that these people are the f***ing criminals?' 'White men in America are 45 more times likely to commit a f***ing violent crime than an immigrant,' he argued. Biden then took swipes at David Axelrod, former President Barack Obama's longtime political strategist, who was one of the few Democrats to openly suggest his father, former President Joe Biden, bow out of a reelection fight last year. The now 82-year-old Democrat did just that exactly one year ago Monday, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris to take his place. She lost in the 2024 election to Trump, who swiftly started making good on his plans to deport thousands of immigrants in the US illegally. During the interview, Biden also needled former Chicago mayor, White House chief of staff and House member Rahm Emanuel, who has already floated a 2028 Democratic run for the presidency. 'And the media says, well David Axelrod and Rahm f***ing Emanuel - so f***ing smart Rahm Emanuel - who say we've got to understand that these people are really mad and we've got to appeal to these white voters,' Biden continued. 'Rahm, the only people that f***ing appeal to those f***ing white voters was Joe Biden at 81-years-old and he got 81 million votes,' he said, referring to his father's 2020 win. 'And he did because, not because he appeased their f***ing Trumpian sense but because he challenged it,' Biden went on. 'And he said, you can be an 81-year-old Catholic from f***ing Scranton that doesn't understand it but still has empathy for transgender people and immigrants.' Biden claimed that Democrats were running away from their values. 'I say, f*** you, how are we getting those people back from f***ing El Salvador?' he asked. Since the beginning of the year, the Trump administration sent hundreds of migrants in the US illegally to El Salvador's mega-prison, CECOT. 'Because I'll tell you what, if I became president in two years from now or four years from now or three years from now, I would pick up the phone and call the f***ing president of El Salvador and say, ''you either f***ing send them back or I'm going to f***ing invade,'' Biden said. 'It's a f***ing crime what they're doing,' he complained. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt was asked to respond to Hunter Biden's criticism during a Fox News appearance Monday afternoon. 'Clearly, they have learned nothing from President Trump's overwhelming victory on November 5,' Leavitt said. 'The American people want deportations. They want secure borders. That's why we have had the most successful six months of any administration. 'The president has delivered on his two core campaign promises, defeat inflation and secure the homeland, in record time.'

Los Angeles Times to go public, owner Soon-Shiong says

July 22 (Reuters) - The Los Angeles Times newspaper plans to go public within the next year, its owner Patrick Soon-Shiong said in a television interview on Monday, in an effort to give the public ownership of the 143-year-old publication. "We're literally going to take LA Times public and allow it to be democratized and allow the public to have ownership of this paper," Soon-Shiong said on "The Daily Show" in a taped interview with the host, Jon Stewart. The billionaire owner of the newspaper said the model would resemble the public ownership structure of the NFL's Green Bay Packers and that a partner organization was working on the structure. The move follows months of turmoil at the Los Angeles Times. Last January, the paper laid off at least 115 staff, or more than 20% of its newsroom, amid continued financial losses and leadership exits, including Executive Editor Kevin Merida and Managing Editor Sara Yasin. At the time, Soon-Shiong said he paper was losing $30 million to $40 million annually. The papers editorial's editor also resigned last year after Soon-Shiong reportedly blocked a planned endorsement of then-Vice President Kamala Harris, triggering subscriber backlash. Soon-Shiong, who is also the founder of ImmunityBio (IBRX.O), opens new tab, bought the LA Times along with other newspapers in 2018 for $500 million from Tronc. LA Times did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment on additional details.
