Immigration smashes 2 syndicates involved in forging documents

KUALA LUMPUR: Two groups known as Ejen 001 and Al Ameen, involved in the abuse and forgery of Immigration documents were busted in raids by the Immigration Department here on Tuesday.
Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said that based on two-week surveillance, his team raided three locations in Jalan Ampang and Jalan Kia Peng here at 12.10pm before arresting five Chinese nationals and one Myanmarese, aged between 28 and 41, and subsequently dismantled the Ejen 001 group.
He said the operation team seized 23 Chinese passports, one Vanuatu passport, two sets of computer central processing units (CPUs), premises stamp, four handphones, two Employment Pass (EP) cards, two sets of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) application copies, one Chinese travel document and RM50,000 in cash.
"Preliminary investigations found that the Chinese national is believed to be the main mastermind in offering immigration document-related services to other Chinese nationals in the country, such as applications for Social Visit Passes and Special Passes," he said in a statement here yesterday.
He said Ejen 001 was operating behind office premises that had been turned into an operations centre to deceive the authorities, while the charges imposed were from RM10,000 to RM15,000 for each service offered, and the operations were believed to have been going on for the past six months.
In the second raid, at 5.42pm, on three business premises in Jalan Raja Laut here, Zakaria said the operation team arrested three Bangladeshi men, aged between 24 and 32 years, who were identified as being involved in the forgery of Immigration documents for the Temporary Employment Visit Pass (ePLKS).
He said that the results of public information and intelligence over three weeks found that a group known as "Al Ameen" was involved in the forgery of ePLKS, targeting Bangladeshi nationals who do not have work permits here.
"The results of the 'QR Code' check on ePLKS found that the owner is a different individual and there is no information, while this syndicate operates in this illegal activity from mobile phone shops to deceive the authorities and had been operating for six months," he said, adding that fee charged was RM30 to RM70 for one unit of fake ePLKS .
The operation team seized 18 Bangladeshi passports, one Pakistani passport, three laptops, two printers, closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera, a Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) licence and cash amounting to RM3,446.
Zakaria said that all the individuals who were detained were taken to the Putrajaya Immigration Depot for further investigation, and legal action is to be taken against them under the provisions of the Immigration Act 1959/63, the Passport Act 1966, and the Immigration Regulations 1963 based on their respective offences.
"Additionally, eight local citizens were called to assist with the investigations. The Immigration Department will continue to intensify enforcement to combat any activities involving document abuse and immigration law violations," he added.

Thai immigration files complaint after Chinese tourist filmed officer, alleged bribes can ease entry into country

BANGKOK: Suvarnabhumi Airport immigration officers have filed a formal complaint after a viral video surfaced showing a Chinese national secretly filming an officer while falsely claiming that entering Thailand is easy as long as you have money. The video, which was edited and narrated in Chinese, suggested that Thai immigration officers could be bribed to 'open the way' for entry — even offering assistance with luggage. It also falsely claimed that working in Thailand without a visa is possible if one has connections with the Immigration Bureau. On Monday (June 9), Pol Maj Gen Choengron Rimpadee, chief of Immigration Division 2 at Suvarnabhumi Airport, confirmed that the video was filmed inside the airport's immigration arrival hall. The officer featured in the clip was identified as Pol Capt Eknarin Chantamatharapaskul, Deputy Inspector of the inbound immigration unit. According to Eknarin, a Chinese tourist had approached him for help filling out the online entry form (TDAC), claiming he didn't understand the system. Out of goodwill, he assisted by entering the information. Later, the same individual asked for expedited passport processing, explaining he was in a hurry due to the delay. Eknarin escorted him to the regular passport control queue and returned to assist other travellers — unaware that he had been secretly filmed from behind. He stressed that his actions were purely intended to help a tourist in need, and said he was shocked to learn the footage had been misused — edited and paired with false commentary — causing reputational harm. Choengron added that Thailand has recently cracked down on foreign nationals abusing visa-free entry. Between January and May 2025, immigration officers denied entry to approximately 8,193 foreigners, many suspected of entering under the guise of tourism to work illegally. He noted that some individuals and agents have been trying to mislead Chinese nationals through fake content and advertisements, claiming they can arrange entry into Thailand through 'connections' with immigration officials. Others have turned immigration checkpoints into "challenge content" zones — secretly filming staff and restricted areas to generate viral videos. Eknarin has since filed a defamation complaint with investigators at Suvarnabhumi Police Station. The Immigration Bureau is also pursuing legal action under immigration law to revoke the tourist's visa and blacklist them as a prohibited person. Authorities are urging the public not to believe or share misleading content that could damage the integrity and credibility of Thailand's immigration services. - The Nation/ANN

Chinese national in Sibu jailed 5 years, fined RM20,000 for fatal crash that killed Sabah State Court director

Sun is led out of the courtroom following sentencing. SIBU (June 10): The Magistrates' Court here today sentenced a Chinese national to five years imprisonment and fined him RM20,000 in default three months' jail for dangerous driving that resulted in the death of former Sabah State Court director Marutin Pagan. Magistrate Rosli Ahmad convicted Sun Xue Song, 42, on his own guilty plea to an amended charge under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years and a fine of up to RM50,000 upon conviction. Rosli also ordered for Sun's jail sentence to run from the date of his arrest on March 30 and disqualified him from holding a driving licence for five years. Sun committed the offence on March 30 at around 1pm at the Kanowit roundabout here. According to the facts of the case, Sun, who was driving a Proton X70, deliberately ignored the give-way road markings leading to the roundabout as he proceeded to drive dangerously before colliding with a Toyota Fortuner. Marutin, 56, and three other passengers were travelling in the Toyota Fortuner driven by his daughter, which was heading towards the Sibu exit. Sun's act of dangerous driving resulted in a collision between the two vehicles, which caused the Toyota Fortuner to roll several times before ending up on its side off the roundabout. Marutin, who sustained several injuries due to the incident, was taken to Kanowit Hospital where he later died. A post-mortem result determined his cause of death as head and chest injuries due to a road traffic crash. In mitigation, Sun, represented by defence counsel Terence Tiong, requested the court to consider his clean record, full cooperation with authorities, genuine remorse, financial assistance to the victim's family, dependents' plight, and the unintentional nature of the tragedy. Tiong said Sun is supporting his seven-year-old son and 70-year-old mother, who rely entirely on his income, care, and support for their survival and well-being. The first-time offender with no previous convictions in Malaysia or his home country had given RM70,000 to Marutin's widow as a bereavement payment to express deep remorse and sorrow. Tiong said Sun had also entered a guilty plea at the earliest opportunity. He added another mitigating factor was that the scene of the accident at Jalan Kanowit-Durin is known as an accident-prone area. In her submission, deputy public prosecutor Cynthia Emmelda Jerry requested the court to consider the degree of culpability where Sun had deliberately ignored the road markings before dangerously driving into the roundabout. She also submitted that the sentence to be imposed must have a deterrent effect on other potential road users as well as for public interest.

Anthony Loke told to 'step down with honour' after fatal crash that leaves 9 FRU cops dead

ENOUGH IS enough. Public anger from the viral video of the mother elephant grieving for her dead calf which was knocked down by a container lorry on the Gerik-Jeli East-West Highway (JRTB) over the weekend has yet to subside when nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) policemen perished in another fatal crash with a stone-laden lorry in Teluk Intan. This has led to the cyberspace being swamped by calls for Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook to give up his 'coveted' portfolio. 'If @anthonyloke feels that he's unable to solve this problem of killer lorries and trucks, it would be best that he steps down with honour,' pro-Madani Datuk Jahat Hensem (@datukhensem) reacted to a netizen update on the 8.50am accident along Jalan Chikus–Sungai Lampam yesterday (May 13). Kalau @anthonyloke rasa tak mampu nak selesaikan masalah lori and truck pembunuh ni, mungkin lebih baik berundur secara terhormat. And harap pihak polis and jpj makin tegas lah dengan pihak lorry lepas ni. Anggota awak ni yang meninggal. — Datuk Jahat Hensem (@datukhensem) May 13, 2025 'And I hope the JPJ (Road Transport Department) and the police will be stricter with heavy vehicles after this. It was your crew members who perished.' Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay has confirmed that the 45-year-old lorry driver involved in the fatal crash has six criminal records – one related to drugs, theft (four) and rape (one). 'All cases resulted in convictions. A urine test came back negative. Despite online claims that he had consumed ketum, no traces of ketum were found, and his urine test results were clean,' Ayob Khan told a media conference at the Hilir Perak police headquarters yesterday (May 13). As the said lorry driver would be brought to the court today (May 14) for a remand hearing, Ayob Khan also updated the media on condition of the nine injured policemen, of which six were in the red zone (critical condition) while three were in the yellow zone (moderate injuries). The trolling on Loke became more intense when a commenter played the race card by claiming that 'if one Chinese dies, he (Loke) will bring a bunch of (DAP) parliamentarians to make a PC'. Thankfully, some netizens cautioned him against making racist remark as there were also Malay transport ministers during the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration yet nobody made a fuss when fatal accidents involving heavy vehicles occurred. Brushing aside racial sentiment. another reckoned that it has to do with people, alluding to '2 or 3 people who died because of unattended potholes'. 'But when Khairi Jamaluddin (then the science, technology and innovation minister) fell and got injured, the issue was settled within one day. It seems that it's fine if the victims are the rakyat so long as they aren't VVIPs'. Other criticism levelled at Loke ranged from not being sensitive to the plight/safety of light vehicle road users and 'more apt at selling number plates' to allowing heavy vehicles (buses lorry, trailers) to be 'road demons' and little action to curb drunk driving. However, some fair netizens came out to defend Loke by recalling that when the JPJ conducted a massive operation against errant lorry driver in October 2023, there were much hue and cry that 'a Chinese minister is persecuting lorry drivers who are moistly Malays'. 'This led to Loke appointing alternative companies to carry out vehicle inspection services. Now when an accident occurs, why are you (still) attacking him?' – May 14, 2025
