GRS to seek a two-term cap on chief minister's tenure
He said this was among the goals of the coalition's manifesto and policies but it can only be achieved with a two-thirds majority in the state assembly.
With that, he said GRS must strive to secure this majority in the upcoming Sabah election.
Armizan said a strong majority would allow the coalition to push through its agendas for the people, based on the Sabah Maju Jaya development initiative and the four pillars of its struggle.
"The four (pillars) are Sabah First, Sabah Forward, Sabah Prosper dan Sabah United. To see the Sabah Maju Jaya agenda through, we must walk the talk and ensure the work is done," he said here on Thursday (July 17).
Armizan said these components were decided by the GRS and Pakatan Harapan state administration in December 2023.
'Reformation needs amendments to the state constitution, and this can only be done with a two-thirds vote in the assembly,' he stressed.
Based on analysts' observations, however, no single coalition or party is seen to be able to form the next state government, and mergers of coalitions or parties seem inevitable.
There is a growing grassroots call for GRS to go solo in the polls, while its federal partners hope it will continue to work with Sabah Pakatan, and even Barisan Nasional.
On the other hand, Sabah Barisan is willing to work with Sabah Pakatan but has reiterated its refusal to collaborate with GRS, while GRS claims that the door for negotiation has not been closed yet.

Armizan's child not at SMA Tun Datu Mustafa
Published on: Friday, August 01, 2025 Published on: Fri, Aug 01, 2025 Text Size: KOTA KINABALU: Political Secretary to Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, Ghazali Hajiji, has refuted claims circulating on social media suggesting the minister's child is linked to the recent death of a student at SMKA Tun Datu Mustafa. In a Facebook post, Ghazali clarified, 'For the record, none of Datuk Armizan's children attend that school.' He added that a police report has been lodged against a TikTok user under the handle 'saka_merah7' for allegedly spreading false and malicious content intended to defame the minister. 'Social media must not be used to spread slander or stir assumptions that lead to dangerous falsehoods,' he said. Ghazali said it is his duty to counter the spread of misinformation, especially when the family of the late student is still grieving. 'This is a time for empathy, not political exploitation. Sabah's political scene is mature. "There's no need to stoop this low. Enough is enough. We are better than this,' he stressed. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Hajiji urges Sabahans to strengthen unity through shared spaces
KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has urged Sabahans to use shared spaces—schools, workplaces, and digital platforms—to foster unity rather than division. Speaking at the launch of the National Month, Sabah Day, and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign 2025, he stressed that preserving harmony is a collective responsibility. 'Sabah's strength lies in its unity amid ethnic and religious diversity. This uniqueness should be a source of pride,' Hajiji said. The event was attended by state ministers, federal officials, and agency representatives. He framed the celebrations as a reminder of past sacrifices for independence, which he said extends beyond colonial liberation to overcoming poverty and division. On development, Hajiji noted the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Plan 1.0 has achieved a 94% implementation rate across 467 initiatives as of May 2025. Priority sectors include agriculture, industry, and tourism, alongside human capital and infrastructure. Public aid programs, such as education access and the Sabah People's Protection Insurance Scheme, were also highlighted. The event concluded with the Sabah-level Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang convoy launch, covering 2,500 km across 27 districts over 20 days. - Bernama
