Police say three individuals were charged between January and May this year, compared to just one case in the same period last year. Two more suspects were charged on Jun 4 and returned to Changi Airport to assist with ongoing investigations. Aslam Shah reports.

SINGAPORE: An argument between a stepfather and his stepson escalated into a physical altercation at a rental flat in Yishun on Saturday morning, resulting in both men being arrested. The incident occurred around 10am at Block 510A Yishun Street 51. Eyewitnesses told Shin Min Daily News that police officers were seen arriving at the scene shortly after the commotion broke out. 'They often argue,' one neighbour shared, 'That day, it turned into a fight. The younger man had a head injury, and the fight even spilled into the corridor.' Photos taken after the altercation showed the aftermath outside the flat — a broken shoe rack lay overturned, with footwear scattered across the corridor floor. When reporters visited the flat later, the unit appeared unoccupied. In response to media queries, the police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed that a 35-year-old man had been taken conscious to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. A 57-year-old man sustained minor injuries but declined medical assistance. Both men were arrested for affray. Police investigations are ongoing.

Four hospitalised after collision involving three motorcycles and lorry on AYE
Photo: Vecteezy/annyakter0420872611 (for illustration purposes only) SINGAPORE: Four people were taken to hospital following a traffic accident involving three motorcycles and a lorry along the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) on Wednesday evening. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the collision at approximately 5:40pm on 5 June. The accident occurred along the AYE towards Tuas, near the Benoi Road exit. SCDF personnel responded to the incident and conveyed four individuals to the National University Hospital. According to the police, the casualties included three male motorcyclists and a female pillion rider, all of whom were conscious when taken to the hospital. They are aged between 31 and 54. Investigations into the cause of the accident are currently ongoing.

China rolls out 5-year multi-entry 'ASEAN visa' for business travellers
Photo: Depositphotos/ronniechua SINGAPORE: Business travellers from the 10 ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries and ASEAN observer Timor-Leste will now have access to a five-year multiple-entry 'ASEAN visa', with each visit lasting up to 180 days, Channel News Asia reported, citing China's foreign ministry announcement on Tuesday. The visa will be available to eligible travellers, along with their spouses and children, from ASEAN member states, including Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia, as well as Timor-Leste. According to Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian, this will 'further facilitate cross-border travel in the region'. China already has visa-free travel arrangements with several countries in the region, including Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. Last year, the city-state and China agreed to a 30-day mutual visa-free entry for their citizens. Malaysia and Thailand also have similar agreements with China. In addition, China launched the 'Lancang-Mekong visa' scheme in November last year, offering five-year multiple-entry visas to business travellers from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. Under this scheme, visitors can stay for up to 180 days per visit. China has been ramping up its visa-free travel arrangements with multiple countries to attract more visitors from various parts of the world. On Jun 1, China initiated a visa-free entry trial policy, allowing citizens from several Latin American countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, and Uruguay.
