M4 disruption and road closures set to hit drivers in Wales this week

Yahoo3 days ago
Maintenance and resurfacing works are expected to cause disruption on the M4 this week. The people affected will be those who use the road in the Cardiff and Earlswood areas while disruption will also be felt by lorry drivers travelling on the M48 Severn Bridge.
Aside from the motorway there are other long-term road closures, contraflow systems, and roadworks in place that you should be aware of before setting off on your journey. This includes potential delays in Cardiff, Bridgend, Gwynedd, Haverfordwest, Llanstephan, Johnstown, Flint and Newbridge.
We've put together an at-a-glance guide to all the road closures and disruption you should be aware of for the coming week.
The following road closures will be in place on the M4
Resurfacing work will be taking place from 8pm until 6am on Monday, August 11 on the M4 westbound at junction 42 Earlswood. The road will be closed and diversions will be in place.
Maintenance works will take place on the M4 eastbound from junction 32 Coryton to junction 30 Cardiff Gate until August 20. A lane will be closed, with delays possible.
Other key disruption
There's a temporary gross weight limit of 7.5 tonnes due to bridge maintenance work on M48 Severn Bridge in both directions between junction two A466 Wye Valley Link Road (Chepstow) and junction 1 A403 (Aust) affecting lorries only.
In Cardiff, a lane will be closed due to roadworks on M4 eastbound from junction 32 A470 Northern Avenue (Coryton Interchange) to junction 30 A4232 Pentwyn Link Road (Cardiff Gate) until August 21. Drivers are told to expect delays.
In Bridgend, two lanes are closed, with narrow lanes, due to roadworks on the M4 in both directions between junction 37 A4229 (Pyle / Porthcawl) and junction 38 A48 (Margam) until November 30.
Road closures elsewhere
In Gwynedd, there's temporary traffic lights in place due to long-term roadworks on A5 Menai Bridge between A487 Treborth Road (Antelope Roundabout) and A545 Telford Road until June 30, 2026.
In Haverfordwest, there's temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A40 in both directions between Haverfordwest Golf Club turn off (Haverfordwest) and Rhos turn off (Slebech) until August 22.
In Llanstephan, Powys, there's temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A470 at Llanstephan turn off until October 1. Drivers are told to expect delays.
In Johnstown, a lane is closed due to roadworks on A40 in both directions from B4312 (Johnstown) to A4066 High Street (St Clears) between 9.30am and 3.30pm Mondays to Fridays until 3.30pm on November 7.
In Flint, there's temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on A548 Chester Road at Caesar Avenue until August 25.
In Newbridge, Newbridge Road is closed in both directions due to roadworks from Pentre Barns to Hill St until July 29, 2026.

Spotted: New McLaren Artura Variants Caught Testing

The McLaren Artura had a rough launch. The automaker delayed deliveries and paused production in 2023 to implement additional quality control procedures, with its CEO admitting the car wasn't ' mature .' Despite all that, it seems McLaren might be ready to give the plug-in hybrid supercar a few updates. A new video from the NCars YouTube channel shows the automaker testing two different camouflaged versions of the Artura. The first one shown in the video looks like the current car, but as it passes by the camera, a clear, plastic rear ducktail wing glistens in the sunlight. It's the only noticeable difference, but it could be an indication that McLaren is developing a Longtail variant. The company has said it has no plans to launch additional models below the Artura . The other camouflage car shown appears to have an incomplete hood vent. There's a missing section of the hood where the front trunk should be, which resembles a cutout for a Lego piece or some hardcore bespoke luggage set. This car also featured additional camouflage along the rear window, but the video never shows what McLaren was trying to hide. It's unclear whether the company is preparing a new Artura variant or introducing several minor tweaks to the current car. Any updates could coincide with changes to the powertrain. The Artura on sale today makes 690 horsepower and 531 pound-feet of torque from its twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 hybrid powertrain. Either way, McLaren is clearly testing something new for the model, and we likely won't have to wait long to see the results.
