Punjab's Class 10 and 12 toppers got a unique chance to spend a day with senior district officials under the state's 'Ek Din, DC/SSP De Sang' initiative to learn about governance
Punjab's top-performing Class 10 and 12 students recently got a unique opportunity to spend a day with senior district officials as part of a new initiative by the state government. The programme, titled 'Ek Din, DC/SSP De Sang' (One Day With DC/SSP), aims to provide meritorious students from government schools with a first-hand experience of public administration, discipline, and service.
Under this initiative, toppers were invited to interact with high-ranking officials such as Deputy Commissioners (DC), Police Commissioners (CP), and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSP). On Monday, the DCs of Amritsar, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, and Kapurthala, along with the CP of Jalandhar and the SSP of Kapurthala, spent the day with their district's top students.
In Jalandhar, DC Himanshu Aggarwal spent time with Class 12 (Non-Medical) toppers, Madhavi Salaria (99%), Sakshi (98.6%), and Amanpreet Kaur (98.4%). The students were taken on a guided tour of the DC office, SDM court, Seva Kendra, and the sub-registrar's office, where the administrative processes were explained in detail.
Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur met with Class 10 toppers Preeti Kumari (97.85%), Navneet Kaur (97.54%), and Neelu Kumari (97.54%), offering them insights into police work, law and order, and public safety.
Amritsar DC Sakshi Sahni hosted Class 10 toppers Mehrpreet Kaur (99.38%), Arnoorbir Kaur (98.30%), and Arshdeep Singh (97.84%) for lunch at her residence. Sharing her journey into civil services, she advised students to choose careers based on passion, not pressure. 'True happiness lies in helping others and contributing to society, not just in earning a salary," she said.
In Hoshiarpur, DC Ashika Jain met Class 10 toppers Mehakpreet Kaur (98.46%), Surekha (98.3%), and Mantavy Singh (96.61%). She spoke to them about leadership, the functioning of district administration, and the value of serving the public.
Kapurthala DC Amit Kumar Panchal met with Class 12 toppers Ankita Sharma, Ravneet Kaur, and Tania. He encouraged them to remain dedicated and to never give up on their goals. SSP Gaurav Tura, who interacted with Class 10 toppers Manpreet Kaur (96.77%), Kamaljit Kaur (96.46%), and Anjali Kumari (95.84%), also motivated them to continue striving for excellence in their chosen fields.
This initiative by the Punjab government aims not only to honour academic excellence but also to inspire the next generation of leaders by giving them a glimpse into public service and governance.

She was given a tour of various administrative sections and briefed on the responsibilities involved in district-level governance. Her father, Vikram Singh Thakur, and grandfather accompanied her during this special experience. Her day as the DC began with overseeing an earthquake mock drill. She interacted with officials, assessed the drill, and reviewed the district's disaster preparedness. She later visited multiple departments within the DC office to understand their functions and participated in a public grievance redressal session, where she heard complaints and issued directions for resolution. Describing the experience as the most unforgettable day of her life, Anvi thanked the district administration for the opportunity. 'Today I got to know closely the work of a Deputy Commissioner, his responsibilities and the administrative process," she told PTI, reflecting on her hands-on exposure to governance and leadership. Deputy Commissioner Apoorva Devgan shared that the 'DC for a Day' initiative aims to foster leadership qualities, confidence, and a sense of social responsibility among students. Deputy commissioner of Uttara Kannada urges for peaceful Bakrid celebrations
Karwar: Deputy commissioner of Uttara Kannada, K Lakshmipriya, urged leaders of all communities to celebrate the Bakrid festival, a symbol of sacrifice, peacefully and harmoniously in the district. The DC instructed that the festival be celebrated in a traditional manner without disturbing law and order or hurting religious sentiments. She assured that the district administration will take precautionary measures for this purpose. She also directed the officials of the urban development department to prioritise waste disposal during Bakrid, and to manage it systematically. Additionally, officials from the animal husbandry and revenue departments were instructed to provide all necessary support to the police department. To prevent illegal cattle transportation, 24 checkposts have been set up by the police department, and offenders involved in such activities can face up to 7 years of imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 10 lakh. The DC advised public not to believe any fake news on social media that could incite religious sentiments, and encouraged them to contact the district administration and police control rooms for accurate information. She urged people of all faiths to engage in peaceful and harmonious celebrations of Bakrid. District police superintendent Narayan M mentioned that peace meetings have been conducted in all police station jurisdictions to maintain peace and harmony during Bakrid. Leaders of Hindu and Muslim organisations present at the meeting emphasised that the district is known for its peace, and will not allow any untoward incidents during Bakrid. Deputy commissioner Divya Prabhu orders shifting of stray cattle
Dharwad: Deputy commissioner Divya Prabhu has directed the HDMC and other local bodies in the district to initiate action to remove the stray cattle occupying the roads and other public places and send them to goshalas. Taking a serious note of the report, DC Divya who chaired a district level meeting of officials from the police, veterinary, revenue and HDMC said the stray cattle should be sent to goshalas. "If the cattle found occupying a road or public place belongs to an owner, he should penalised and punished as per the law. The Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020 stupulates imposing a fine of Rs 3 lakh and imprisonment upto five years" the DC said. The DC directed the officials to ensure that animal slaughter is done in places that have been permitted as per law and not at unauthorised places. Task force formed The DC also constituted task forces under the chairmanship of tahasildar's of respective taluks to oversee the proper implementation of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020 during Bakrid which will be observed on June 7. The meeting was attended by all the tahasildars, veterinary department officers, police officers and others.
