Punjab's top-performing Class 10 and 12 students recently got a unique opportunity to spend a day with senior district officials as part of a new initiative by the state government. The programme, titled 'Ek Din, DC/SSP De Sang' (One Day With DC/SSP), aims to provide meritorious students from government schools with a first-hand experience of public administration, discipline, and service.
Under this initiative, toppers were invited to interact with high-ranking officials such as Deputy Commissioners (DC), Police Commissioners (CP), and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSP). On Monday, the DCs of Amritsar, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, and Kapurthala, along with the CP of Jalandhar and the SSP of Kapurthala, spent the day with their district's top students.
In Jalandhar, DC Himanshu Aggarwal spent time with Class 12 (Non-Medical) toppers, Madhavi Salaria (99%), Sakshi (98.6%), and Amanpreet Kaur (98.4%). The students were taken on a guided tour of the DC office, SDM court, Seva Kendra, and the sub-registrar's office, where the administrative processes were explained in detail.
Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur met with Class 10 toppers Preeti Kumari (97.85%), Navneet Kaur (97.54%), and Neelu Kumari (97.54%), offering them insights into police work, law and order, and public safety.
Amritsar DC Sakshi Sahni hosted Class 10 toppers Mehrpreet Kaur (99.38%), Arnoorbir Kaur (98.30%), and Arshdeep Singh (97.84%) for lunch at her residence. Sharing her journey into civil services, she advised students to choose careers based on passion, not pressure. 'True happiness lies in helping others and contributing to society, not just in earning a salary," she said.
In Hoshiarpur, DC Ashika Jain met Class 10 toppers Mehakpreet Kaur (98.46%), Surekha (98.3%), and Mantavy Singh (96.61%). She spoke to them about leadership, the functioning of district administration, and the value of serving the public.
Kapurthala DC Amit Kumar Panchal met with Class 12 toppers Ankita Sharma, Ravneet Kaur, and Tania. He encouraged them to remain dedicated and to never give up on their goals. SSP Gaurav Tura, who interacted with Class 10 toppers Manpreet Kaur (96.77%), Kamaljit Kaur (96.46%), and Anjali Kumari (95.84%), also motivated them to continue striving for excellence in their chosen fields.
This initiative by the Punjab government aims not only to honour academic excellence but also to inspire the next generation of leaders by giving them a glimpse into public service and governance.

CM Siddaramaiah to launch infra projects in Belagavi next month: Minister Jarkiholi
Advt District minister Satish Jarkiholi announced that chief minister Siddaramaiah will lay the foundation stone for several key infrastructure projects in Belagavi next month. These include a Rs 200 crore flyover, a Rs 55 crore deputy commissioner's office complex, and a Rs 10 crore Patrika Bhavan for the media media persons on Friday, Jarkiholi detailed the scope of the flyover project, which will span 4.5 km from Sankam Hotel in Gandhi Nagar to Bogarves, passing through Ashok Circle, RTO Circle, Channamma Circle, and College Road. Jarkiholi also highlighted the urgent need for a new district stadium, as the existing facility will soon revert to the KLE Society upon completion of its lease period. "The new stadium will be built near Kanabaragi, with Rs 20 crore sanctioned in the first phase. We aim to have it ready by next Independence Day," he minister confirmed that CM Siddaramaiah will not only launch new projects but also inaugurate several completed ones, including those initiated during his previous tenure. Regarding the development of the Renuka Yallamma temple in Savadatti, Jarkiholi said the state govt has already sanctioned ₹215 crore for its comprehensive development. Tourism minister HK Patil is overseeing the progress of the project.

Morabadi ground ready to host Independence Day event
1 2 3 4 5 6 Ranchi: The final dress rehearsal of the Independence Day parade was held at Morabadi Ground on Wednesday under the supervision of deputy commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri. This year, governor Santosh Gangwar will unfurl the Tricolour in Ranchi as chief minister Hemant Soren is away at Nemra in Ramgarh for the shradh rituals of his father, Shibu Soren, who passed away on August 4. The rehearsal included all formal activities planned for the main event, with both the DC and SSP taking the salute. The participating platoons are CRPF, ITBP, SSB, CISF, Jharkhand Jaguar, Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP)-1, JAP-2, JAP-10, Ranchi Police (male and female contingents), Home Guard, NCC (boys and girls), and Bihar Police. Assistant superintendent of police Shruti will serve as parade commander, with probationary deputy SP Dusruwan Singh as second commander. Addressing the briefing for deputed magistrates and police officers, Bhajantri said, "All officers must have full knowledge of their duties and deployment points, and ensure arrangements for the timely arrival and departure of dignitaries." SSP Chandan Sinha emphasised strict security protocols, instructing that "all visitors must be thoroughly screened and no unauthorised person or objectionable item should be allowed into the venue. " South Chhotanagpur divisional commissioner Anjani Kumar Mishra and the DC formally invited the governor as the chief guest for the I-Day celebrations. In the run-up to the celebrations on Friday, a group of youngsters took to the streets on Wednesday carrying a massive 300-ft-long Tricolour. The procession, which started at the Morabadi ground to the Albert Ekka Chowk, passed through prominent roads of the city. "We are training to join the armed forces and serve the nation for as long as we live. This rally is our way of expressing our respect and love for the country. We hope this march will inspire more youths to join the armed forces and nurture a sense of pride for the country," said a young participant. Ranchi CRPF group centre also took out a 350-feet tricolour rally from the camp, where family members of the jawans, students, and commoners actively participated. The camp took initiatives to distribute tricolours among the public in cycling, biking, and marching through the city. "Independence Day is an opportunity to celebrate the valour and patriotism exemplified by our forefathers and reminisce about their contributions, for which we are now living in a free country. Like every year, this year also we observed the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign and distributed tricolours to instil patriotism among the commoners, especially the youngsters," said DIG of the group centre D N Lal. Fatehpur land dispute: Temple or tomb? An exclusive report based on official records
A ruckus broke out in Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur after a group offered prayers at a tomb, considering it a temple. The Hindu side claims the land belongs to Hindus and houses a temple dedicated to Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva. The Muslim side, on the other hand, insists it is the tomb of Aurangzeb's Faujdar Abdul Samad and his son Abu what is this dispute really about? How was this tomb declared national property? This exclusive report is based on historical documents and official records related to the dispute traces back to the British era. In 1927–28, a case was filed for the division of 28 bighas of land in Fatehpur between two landlord families — Lal Girdhari Lal Rastogi and the Mansingh family. On 14 August 1928, the court under the then British government allotted Gata numbers 751, 752, and 754 to Lal Girdhari Lal Rastogi and Gata number 753 to the Mansingh family. Gata number 753 measured 1.7650 hectares (1,89,983 square feet). On 30 December 1970, Shakuntala Mansingh, wife of Nareshwar Mansingh — a descendant of the Mansingh family — sold this land to Ramnaresh Singh. Singh later divided the land into plots. According to an SDM Fatehpur investigation report dated 10 July 2014, Singh plotted 1.5890 hectares and sold it to various 2007, the Muslim side, claiming the site as the tomb of Aurangzeb's Faujdar Abdul Samad and his son Abu Bakar, filed a case before the SDM court (Case No. 26/2007). Mohammad Anees filed the case against Ramnaresh Singh. On 20 April 2012, the court ordered the removal of Singh's name from the records and registered the property under 'Mangi Maqbara (National Property), Mutawalli Mohammad Anees' of Abu Gata number 753 is recorded in Fatehpur's land revenue records as belonging to Mangi Maqbara (National Property), with Mutawalli Mohammad Anees as its 2019, the property was formally registered as Waqf land with the Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board. It was listed as Waqf No 1635, Fatehpur district, in the names of Abdul Samad and Abu Mohammad. After Mohammad Anees, his son Abu Huraira became the turning point came in 2013, when Mohammad Anees petitioned the Allahabad High Court, claiming illegal encroachment on Gata number 753. The then Chief Justice, DY Chandrachud, directed the Fatehpur district administration to investigate and prevent illegal SDM's investigation revealed that before the legal dispute, Singh had already sold plots carved out of Gata number 753.
