Iowa baseball lands bullpen arm through transfer portal
As the long and winding offseason continued for Iowa baseball, the Hawkeyes made some moves on Thursday by gaining the commitment of former Illinois State bullpen arm Joe Husak through the transfer portal.
While the right-hander had a standout sophomore season with the Redbirds in 2024, posting a 4-2 record and a 2.55 ERA over 42.1 innings, his 2025 campaign saw a bit of a downturn as his ERA landed at 6.11 in 28.0 innings with an 0-2 record.
During his 2024 season with Illinois State, Husek was named Honorable Mention to the All-Missouri Valley Conference team and closed out his tenure as the second all-time leader in saves with 14.
Before his two seasons at Illinois State, the senior native of Cambridge, Iowa, made a previous stop at South Dakota State in 2022.
For Iowa's sake, the addition could be extremely helpful if the Hawkeyes can get the 2024 version of Husek next season as the closer has shown the potential to be consistent and reliable.
With the Hawkeyes roster still somewhat in flux, the additions and subtractions to the team will be something to watch as the offseason moves along.

Kate Martin reveals skeptical Caitlin Clark first impression
The post Kate Martin reveals skeptical Caitlin Clark first impression appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Indiana Fever are lucky to have Caitlin Clark as the leader of the franchise. Clark is currently recovering from a quad injury but she is expected to return to the lineup soon. One of Clark's college teammates shared her first impression of the future superstar in a recent interview. Advertisement Valkyries guard Kate Martin shared her hilarious first impression of Caitlin Clark on Bird's Eye View on Tuesday. 'So I had heard about this Caitlin Clark and I was like watching videos of her just like having like 40 points, like averaging a million in high school,' Martin said. 'And I was like oh this girl thinks she's going to come here and rule the world you know like whatever. And there she did, came in right away and ruled the world and I was like alright here we go.' Martin joined the Iowa basketball program in 2018, but was redshirted during her freshman season while she recovered from a high school injury. Clark first came onto Martin's radar in 2020 when Clark joined the Hawkeyes as a freshman. Advertisement Martin grew up in Illinois, so she was not aware that Clark's AAU team was a big deal. That is, until she saw highlights of Clark and the 'All Iowa Attack.' Martin was clearly skeptical that Clark would dominate the college basketball scene during her first season. Of course, Martin could not have been more wrong. Clark ended up scoring 26.6 points per game as a freshman. Caitlin Clark would go on to become one of the best collegiate athletes in NCAA history. Her crowning achievement was breaking Pete Maravich's all-time scoring record. She is now the all-time leading scorer, among both men and women, in NCAA history. Advertisement Both Clark and Martin have had success in the WNBA as well. They have even played against each other a few times throughout their young careers. Clark and Martin will face each other once again when the Fever play the Valkyries on June 19th. Texas surging with elite edge Jamarion Carlton after recent visit
Texas surging with elite edge Jamarion Carlton after recent visit Texas has picked a few huge commitments over the last week for their 2026 recruiting class as four-star defensive lineman Dylan Berymon and four-star defensive tackle Corey Wells made their pledges to the Longhorns. They have another blue-chipper in their sights as well and that's four-star edge Jamarion Carlton. The 6-foot-5, 240-pounder named Texas in his top five schools last week and also set a July 10 commitment date. Carlton was back in Austin last weekend to see the Longhorns, and he got to take in a bunch of what the program has to offer and what they have in store if he commits. "This official visit was amazing," Carlton told Rivals earlier this week. "Just to be able to chill with the players, get some good advice and then being able to know what plan they have for me. At Texas, the plan to develop me into reaching my highest potential as a player and as a person was great. The time with the players and the coaches was pretty fun." Carlton had a productive junior season for Temple High School. He amassed 57 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, five sacks, and a forced fumble. Rivals has Carlton ranked extremely high in their rankings. In addition to being the No. 46 overall prospect he's also the No. 4 edge rusher and the No. 4 recruit in the state of Texas. Texas Tech hosted Carlton at the end of April and LSU in May. He still has official visits to Texas A&M and Baylor before he commits, so last weekend was immensely important for Texas and their chances to land Carlton. After spending time with players on the Longhorns roster as well as edge coach LaAllan Clark, Carlton can envision himself playing in Austin. "I can see myself there," Carlton said. If Texas can snag Carlton, they'll inch closer toward a top 10 class for the 2026 cycle. Elite 2026 4-star Edge sends message after his Texas A&M official visit
Elite 2026 4-star Edge sends message after his Texas A&M official visit One of Texas A&M's first 2026 commitments in the 2026 class has now made it known to the rest of the country that he is 100% locked in with the Aggies, as four-star defensive end Jordan Carter will reportedly shut down his recruitment during his recent interview with TexAgs recruiting analyst Jason Howell, who has been steadily tracking Carter's recent uptick in outside attention. Coach Mike Elko has continued to impress both the fan base and the Aggie media with his ability to recruit the state of Georgia, which began with the landing of 2026 four-star Aaron Gregory, followed by Jordan Carter in late October. After shutting down his recruitment last weekend, Gregory could end up being the program's highest-ranking commit by the end of the year. Carter's ascension as a pass rusher has led to Tennessee and Florida State making strong pushes over the last two months. While he took unofficial visits to both programs in late March and early April, Carter's official visit to Texas A&M last weekend sealed the deal for the standout versatile defender. "Aggie fans, I'm locked in, and I'm ready to work! Gig 'Em!" While he has yet to post on his social media (X) account, this essentially solidifies his standing as a "hard" commit, which will be finalized during the Early Signing Period on December 4. During his 2024 junior season with Douglas County HS, Carter recorded 62 tackles, 35 solo tackles, 13 sacks, and 17 tackles for loss. According to 247Sports, Carter is currently positioned as the 114th-ranked prospect in the 2026 class, the 14th-ranked Edge, and the 10th-ranked prospect in Georgia.
