Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose confirm Ryder Cup spots
The Southport golfer went into the final round of the FedEx St Jude Championship with a one-shot lead, looking for his maiden win in his 162nd event, but a poor finish saw him miss out on a play-off by a stroke.
That play-off was won by Justin Rose, who also booked his place in Luke Donald's side, with his opponent US Open champion JJ Spaun guaranteeing his spot in the United States team despite losing at the third extra hole.
Two-time major winner Xander Schauffele also booked his spot for the United States with his joint-22nd finish.
Rose, who will make his seventh appearance for Europe, posted a picture on Instagram of him celebrating holing a putt from a previous Ryder Cup with the caption: "Reporting for duty Captain!"
Fleetwood, set to make his fourth consecutive appearance, did similarly, writing: "Yes!! Very proud."
"I'm delighted to welcome both Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood to Team Europe for Bethpage," said Donald.
"Justin's experience, leadership and proven Ryder Cup pedigree will be invaluable and his recent victory in America underlines the form and confidence he will bring to New York.
"Tommy brings passion, consistency and an outstanding match play record, and he has shown time and again that he thrives in the team environment of the Ryder Cup."
Scotland's Robert MacIntyre, Englishman Tyrrell Hatton and Austria's Sepp Straka currently occupy the final three automatic places for qualification, which ends after the Betfred British Masters in a fortnight.

Cristiano Ronaldo engaged to long-term partner Georgina Rodríguez
Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his engagement to long-term partner Georgina Rodríguez after nine years together. Rodríguez, 31, shared the news on Instagram on Monday with a photograph showing a large diamond ring on her finger, resting on the hand of the Portugal football star, 40. She captioned the image: "Yes I do. In this and in all my lives." The couple have two daughters together – Alana, seven, and Bella, three – while Bella's twin brother Angel died during birth. Rodríguez has also helped raise Ronaldo's other three children – Cristiano Jr, 15, and twins Mateo and Eva Maria, both eight. The pair met in 2016 when Rodríguez was working at a Gucci store in Madrid. Speaking about their first meeting, she previously said: "I was finally able to leave the shop to go home three hours later than I should have, and as I was getting ready to leave Cristiano came in with his eldest son and some friends. Tommy Fleetwood 's glass-half-full attitude after slipping up again in his quest for a first career win on the PGA Tour will see him move on to this week's BMW Championship at Caves Valley in Maryland for what will be his 163rd attempt to finally crack the winning code. 'You just have to keep (going), all these experiences and these close calls, there's no point in making or allowing them to have a negative effect on what happens next.
