Barbie Forteza garners praise for professionalism, punctuality: 'Artista na nauuna sa staff'

Barbie Forteza received praises for her exceptional professionalism and punctuality during the production of her latest film, 'P77,' which made a significant impression on both the director and network executives. At Tuesday's media conference for the horror movie, director Derick Cabrido expressed his admiration, noting that the Kapuso Primetime Princess consistently arrives on set even before the crew. 'Ito 'yung artista na nauuna kaysa sa staff. Maraming time na nakaka-receive ako ng tawag, tumatawag sa 'kin, nagda-drive pa lang ako. Imagine mo, call time namin, mga 6:30, 7:00. Tumatawag na sa akin 'yung PM namin o kaya 'yung mga staff. Sabi 'Nandito na si Barbie,'' he said. He would ask why she was there so early, and the crew would inform him that Barbie went directly to the 'P77' shoot from another project, which was 'Pulang Araw.' 'Direk, hindi pa naka-set up ang tent,' the crew would tell him. Direk Derick shared, 'May time na parang parang nando'n na siya nang 5:30, pero 7:00 dapat siya dumating, 7:30. For me, alam ko na talagang sobrang ano siya doon sa work niya.' GMA Public Affairs Senior Vice President Nessa Valdellon further echoed these sentiments, explaining why Barbie is such a favorite to work with. 'She's such a pro,' she said. She shared that at 2:15 p.m., she came in to check the setup for the press conference, and she was surprised to see that Barbie was already at the venue when the event was scheduled to start at 3 p.m. 'Nauna pa siya sa akin. So, ganoon siya lagi. She is always early. She is just so prepared. She is so professional. So, why wouldn't we want to work with her?' she said. The network executive added that Barbie is always willing to do anything. 'As in, no weirdness, no freak-outs. She doesn't disappear in the middle of a shooting day. So, we love Barbie. And she acts so well, ever since bata pa na siya.' Also present at the press event was GMA Network Senior Vice President Annette Gozon-Valdes, who commented on the significance of 'P77.' 'Matagal nang hindi gumagawa ang GMA Pictures ng horror na movie, na nasa horror genre, at ito 'yung comeback namin sa horror kaya pinaghandaan talaga 'to at gusto naming magbigay ng kakaibang type of horror na tamang-tama naman sa mga panahon ngayon,' she said. 'P77' also stars JC Alcantara, Euwenn Mikaell, Gina Pareño, Carlos Siguion-Reyna, and Jackie Lou Blanco. The film is coming to cinemas on July 30. —JCB, GMA Integrated News

Mela Habijan earns two master's degrees in Spain

Mela Habijan has earned not one, but two master's degrees in Madrid, Spain! The Miss Trans Global 2020 titleholder shared on Instagram that she has officially graduated from Spain's IE University, with a Master's in Business Administration and Master's in Creative Direction, Content, and Branding. Mela also shared that she is an IE Asia Pacific Scholarship Recipient, a Nominee for Best Student, a Dean's Lister, and a Blue Torch Awardee for Academic Excellence. "After 19 months, we finally earned two master's degrees," she wrote. "But what's more meaningful: I, a trans woman from my beloved Philippines, was loved, embraced, and cheered on by my IE University community," she added. Mela said that the university gave her a "true sense of belonging" that every member of the LGBTQIA+ dreams of. "During the ceremony, I wore the dress gifted to me by the incredible trans icon, Miss Cheetah Rivera," she said, adding that she had her makeup on, her long hair down, and wore a pair of six-inch pageant heels. "They even called me by my name on stage thrice," she added. "And for the first time, I got to see the name I wish, hope, and pray to see in my passport and legal documents." However, Mela clarified that the name on her diploma is still her government name, but "it was the best and most rewarding award that I have received to date." "For now, I am rejoicing — hoping that this honor and privilege can be a universal experience for trans and queer people," she said. "Beloved Philippines and my queer community, I hope I made you proud!" she added. Mela flew to Spain in January 2024 to pursue her master's. In 2023, she flew to New York to take a modelling masterclass under the mentorship of supermodel Coco Rocha. She previously appeared on GMA Network shows, such as "The Better Woman" and "Asaawa Ko, Karibal Ko." —Hermes Joy Tunac/JCB, GMA Integrated News

5 times Nico Waje made typhoon coverage a little less gloomy

Nico Waje of GMA Integrated News has been going viral for his typhoons Crising and Dante videos on TikTok. Posting updates from town situations around the Philippines, Nico's comment section is filled with netizens calling him 'love,' 'babe,' 'the king of updates,' and the 'pambansang boyfriend.' They've also been reminding him to take extra care. Covering typhoons and disasters is never an easy thing — both for the news team delivering the information and for the audiences watching them. So thank heavens for someone like Nico Waje who is able to make delivering the news seem a little less difficult, and receiving the news a little less of a gloomy experience. Here are five of Nico's best moments: 1. From Brgy. Sapang Bayan, Calumpit, Bulacan Nico updated netizens about the situation in the Brgy. Sapang Bayan in Calumpit, Bulacan as he waded through a flooded area, jacket zipped up and umbrella in tow. While his TikTok video showed homes and townspeople in knee-high floods, netizens reminded him to take care. 'Gusto ko talaga yung nag uupdate sakin eh, sige love ingat ka,' a netizen said. 2. From Taft Avenue corner United Nations, Manila Nico's situationer between Taft Avenue and United Nations in Manila is quite the popular video as he explained how clogged drainage systems resulted in floods. As he gave updates on how the local government unit of Manila was in the area to clean out the gutters, one netizen hilariously said, 'Nico, ako naman nasa Antipolo. Baka gusto mo din mag-report from here.' 3. From Brgy. Saplad David, Macabebe, Pampanga On GMA News' TikTok page Monday, Nico reported from a bangka in the already-flooded Brgy. Saplad David, Macabebe, Pampanga. Netizens couldn't help but swoon over the journalist, who was drenched wet, thanking him for updates and once again telling him to take care. A netizen even called Nico the Pambansang BF. 4. Live reports Nico also posts his live reports on '24 Oras" like his situation report from Macabebe, Pampanga, for which fans thanked their 'babe.' 'Ingat guys! Masama ang panahon hanggang Thursday,' Nico said in his TikTok caption. 5. Offcam outfit checks @nicowaje Before diving into the flood outfit check????????Thanks for the rain gear GMA Integrated News ????? ? original sound - Nico Waje Nico gave a glimpse of what happens behind the scenes during a typhoon coverage with fit check video. A barefooted Nico was seen dressing up in waterproof pants and GMA Integrated News' waterproof jacket. To top it all off, he also wore a waterproof jumper and rainboots. With another filled comments section, Nico told supporters, 'Guys! I'm trying to read all your comments. Please know that I appreciate you all! Mag-ingat please! Lab u!' In its early Wednesday bulletin, PAGASA said Tropical Depression Dante is maintaining its strength as it moves northwestward over the Philippine Sea. Rains brought by Habagat is also forecast to continue bringing moderate to sometimes intense rains over Metro Manila and several provinces. As always, a reminder to keep safe, mga Kapuso. — LA, GMA Integrated News
