Sambhal land records ‘missing, forged, tampered with'
They said an FIR had been lodged after a lekhpal found the discrepancies at the land record room in Moradabad. They suspected these manipulations might have been done so that the actual landowners could not be confirmed.
The Sambhal district was carved out of the Moradabad district on July 23, 2012, after a formal announcement was made to this effect on September 28, 2011. The district was formed largely from the Sambhal region of Moradabad and some areas of the Badaun district. The old land records were preserved at the Moradabad land record room.
A senior administrative official said the incident came to light when the Sambhal district administration needed some documents, for which the archive records at the land record room in Moradabad had to be searched. He said records pertaining to Sambhal Khas, Sultanpur Bujurg, Tashtpur, Sarai Tareen, Mandalai, Dalavali, etc., had been destroyed. These villages come in Sambhal's urban area, he added.
He said Sambhal Khas lekhpal Gyanesh Kumar lodged the FIR in Moradabad under Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 324 (4) (mischief and causing loss or damage to property), 336 (3) (forging records) and 303 (2) (stealing records). He said other lekhpals, including Rahul Kumar Dhariwal, Sparsh Gupta, Champat Singh, Sandeep Kumar and Mukesh Kumar found out that the records pertaining to their jurisdictions had been forged or tampered with.
Regional inspection officer (RIO) Shiv Dayal Singh alleged some of the records were intentionally torn, partially damaged, made unreadable, forged and stolen. He added the disappearance of land records would make it difficult to prove land ownership, leading to legal battles and disputes. He said investigations were ongoing and legal actions would be taken against the culprit/s.

Retired banker from Kalina loses ₹4.6 crore to online investment fraud
MUMBAI: A 58-year-old woman from Santacruz East, who had retired from a leading multinational bank, was cheated to the tune of ₹4.6 crore by cyber fraudsters posing as executives of a wealth management company. The police said they befriended her in June via WhatsApp and phone calls, promising handsome returns. Retired banker from Kalina loses ₹ 4.6 crore to online investment fraud The complainant retired as a manager from the bank and lives with her husband in Kalina, Santacruz East, where the two survive on pensions. According to the police, one of the accused sent her a WhatsApp message on June 28, 2025, claiming to be the personal assistant of the founder of a leading wealth management firm in the city. The accused offered to facilitate her stock market investments and asked her to install a mobile application, then join a WhatsApp group. After seeing the 103-strong group chat flooding with screenshots and messages claiming to have profited from the tips given by the admins, the complainant was convinced. 'After analysing and seeing the profits, the complainant began to 'invest' from June 30 onwards,' said the officer. He added that every time she transferred money to the accused, the exact amount was reflected on the mobile application, so she did not suspect anything amiss. Spreading around 18 transactions from June 30 to July 22, the complainant sent around ₹4.6 crore under the impression that she was investing in stock markets and IPOs through a genuine wealth management firm. Her balance displayed on the application was ₹27 crore on 23 July, when she decided to withdraw money, and that is when her suspicions began, as she was not able to. When she put in a request for withdrawal on the app, another person called her, persuading her to purchase 15% more shares to qualify for withdrawal. The complainant then visited the office of the firm only to realise those who called her were not even a part of it. Realising she had been cheated, she approached the Western Region Cyber police station. 'We have registered the offence on Thursday under sections 340 (forged documents and electronic records), 338 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc.), 336 (forgery), 319 (cheating by personation) and 318 (cheating) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and under various sections of the Information Technology Act,' said the police officer.

(Shutterstock) On July 27, the stray bullet hit Sarvar Banu Shaikh, a resident of 90 Feet Road in Dharavi, while she was talking to her friend outside her house. She did not know what had hit her shoulder, but when she began bleeding profusely, she was taken to the Sion hospital, where an X-ray revealed the presence of a bullet, said a police officer. The Shahu Nagar police initially registered a case against an unknown person under the Arms Act and for attempted murder of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. CCTV footage led the police to the suspect, Mohammad Ajju Yakub Shaikh, a resident of Cheetah Camp in Trombay. The police traced him and questioned him. 'Shaikh was running a lottery shop, due to which he used to carry a lot of cash. So, he decided to keep an illegal country-made weapon with him for safety. In the past, he was also booked for illegal possession of a weapon,' said the officer. Yakub Shaikh told the police he was at his sister Mumtaz's house to resolve a dispute. He had taken his gun with him, and while cleaning the pistol, a bullet which was stuck in the pistol chamber shot off and injured the woman. 'We have arrested him and got his police custody to find out where he got the illegally made country-made pistol from,' said the officer.
