Sambhal land records ‘missing, forged, tampered with'
Several revenue records of land in the urban pockets of Sambhal, which has remained at the centre of a controversy following court-ordered surveys of the Shahi Jama Masjid there, were found to be either missing or tampered with and forged, confirmed senior administrative officials on Tuesday.
They said an FIR had been lodged after a lekhpal found the discrepancies at the land record room in Moradabad. They suspected these manipulations might have been done so that the actual landowners could not be confirmed.
The Sambhal district was carved out of the Moradabad district on July 23, 2012, after a formal announcement was made to this effect on September 28, 2011. The district was formed largely from the Sambhal region of Moradabad and some areas of the Badaun district. The old land records were preserved at the Moradabad land record room.
A senior administrative official said the incident came to light when the Sambhal district administration needed some documents, for which the archive records at the land record room in Moradabad had to be searched. He said records pertaining to Sambhal Khas, Sultanpur Bujurg, Tashtpur, Sarai Tareen, Mandalai, Dalavali, etc., had been destroyed. These villages come in Sambhal's urban area, he added.
He said Sambhal Khas lekhpal Gyanesh Kumar lodged the FIR in Moradabad under Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 324 (4) (mischief and causing loss or damage to property), 336 (3) (forging records) and 303 (2) (stealing records). He said other lekhpals, including Rahul Kumar Dhariwal, Sparsh Gupta, Champat Singh, Sandeep Kumar and Mukesh Kumar found out that the records pertaining to their jurisdictions had been forged or tampered with.
Regional inspection officer (RIO) Shiv Dayal Singh alleged some of the records were intentionally torn, partially damaged, made unreadable, forged and stolen. He added the disappearance of land records would make it difficult to prove land ownership, leading to legal battles and disputes. He said investigations were ongoing and legal actions would be taken against the culprit/s.

The Himachal Pradesh Police arrested a vegetable seller in Paonta Sahib, Sirmaur district Sunday on charges of sedition for allegedly posting anti-national content on his Facebook account following the air strikes in Pakistan. A case has been registered against Suleman Khan, 45, a native of Saharanpur district in Uttar Pradesh, under section 152 (sedition) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Paonta Sahib police station. On Monday, Khan was sent to four days' police custody. The police said he has been residing in Ward Badripur, Paonta Sahib, for the last 15 years. According to officers, Khan's antecedents are being verified, and his mobile phone has been seized for forensic examination. Manvinder Thakur, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Paonta Sahib, said, 'A delegation of local residents filed a police complaint against Suleman Khan. The delegation submitted a printout of one of the posts shared by the accused, in which he criticised the Indian military action against Pakistan following the Pulwama terrorist attack. We found that the post had been deleted a few days ago. In the deleted post, the suspect had also praised Pakistan. The matter is under investigation.' According to the First Information Report (FIR), 'Khan indulged in anti-national activities by criticising India's military response to Pakistan following the Pulwama terrorist attack. He also made derogatory remarks against the Prime Minister of India and posted the slogan 'Pakistan Zindabad' on his Facebook account.' Members of the delegation that lodged the complaint include Abhishek Verma, Amarjeet Singh, Kapil Sharma, and Vinod Kaushik. In the last week of May, the Himachal Pradesh Police arrested a 21-year-old man from Kangra for allegedly keeping 'sensitive and objectionable material' on his phone, and being in touch with individuals in Pakistan through online platforms. After the arrest, Mayank Chaudhary, Superintendent of Police (SP) Dehra, told The Indian Express, 'Indeed, sensitive and objectionable material was found on the suspect's mobile phone, which could endanger the sovereignty of the country. However, we have not yet found any conclusive evidence that he was directly involved in acts of spying'.

61-year-old Worli man shoots wife while sleeping, later kills self; suspected domestic dispute
MUMBAI: A 61-year-old man allegedly shot dead his wife before turning the revolver on himself at their Worli home early Sunday. Police said the man, Rajmanohar Naampille, and his wife Lata, who was in her early 50s, used to have frequent domestic tiffs. The couple's 32-year-old son was asleep in another room when the incident occurred. Worli police said Naampille, an electrical contractor, used an unlicensed countrymade firearm. Police are trying to find out where he procured the weapon from and will be making inquiries with the couple's son and daughter-in-law. The incident occurred between 5.30 and 6.15am at their 2nd floor Pankaj Mansion flat. Lata was sleeping when her husband allegedly shot her in the head. He then went to the building's staircase where he shot himself too in the head. His nephew, who was in the house on Sunday, heard the shots and called police, who rushed the couple to a public hospital where they were declared dead. Worli murder: Cops probe if couple had financial issues| Naampille's relations with his wife had soured. He believed that his son supported his wife during arguments,' a police officer said. Investigators are probing whether there were any financial issues in the household. Worli police have registered a case of murder under provisions of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and have also applied sections related to firearms.

Customs informer attacked by contract killers in Mazgaon
MUMBAI: A businessman from Mazgaon was attacked by unknown people on Thursday, purportedly because he had given a tip-off about illegal smuggling rackets operating out of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) that resulted in several arrests by the Customs department. Motorists on the Bhagwan Adinath Road in Mazgaon alerted the Byculla police on Thursday evening of a group attacking a man who laid in his blood. The victim was identified as Mohammed Aslam Patel. When constable Uday Vichare, attached to the Byculla police station, reached the spot, he saw Patel suffering grievous head injuries and bleeding. There was also an iron rod lying next to him, said a police officer. The police team, with the help of a patrolling van, rushed him to the JJ Hospital. His family later shifted him to the Saifee Hospital. 'We have been told that the complainant had given a tip-off about a few people who smuggled cosmetics and gold from foreign countries. He had given a tip-off about their businesses after which the Customs department seized their consignments and made arrests,' said the police officer. The accused allegedly hired a contract killer. 'Patel's condition is not good. We have registered an offence and are tracing the accused through CCTV cameras,' said a police officer. A case was booked under section 109 (attempt to murder) of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 against the accused.
