Aussies issued terrifying warning about this cemetery - and why you should think twice about visiting it
An Aussie has lifted the lid on the terrifying folklore surrounding a cemetery, with other visitors claiming to have had chilling encounters with the supernatural. Marcus Sutherland, who is known to his followers as OzCamper, shared the haunting rumour circulating about Toowong Cemetery, in Brisbane 's CBD. He explained in a TikTok video that it was believed a 19th-century vampire had been buried in the grounds and been perfectly preserved in her coffin. Social media users shared their own experiences, with some claiming to have seen mysterious figures walking throughout the night. Mr Sutherland explained the Toowong Vampire Grave was a folktale that had been haunting locals for decades. According to the story, a beautiful vampire is said to wander the headstones along Avenue 12 within the cemetery grounds. Mr Sutherland recounted an unsettling version of the legend in which the woman's grave was dug up. 'Apparently there was a figure in this coffin when they opened it up,' he said. 'She had been there for years and years. She had not decayed whatsoever.' He added that when someone reached out to touch her, the vampire suddenly opened her eyes and stared straight at the man. 'When she smiled, blood came out of her mouth,' Mr Sutherland said. Despite the hair-raising tale, Mr Sutherland conceded that it is only folklore. 'There is no evidence to back this up,' he noted. Another tale is about Walter Thomas Porriott, one of the cemetery's residents, who was rumoured to be Jack the Ripper, the London serial killer who murdered five women in 1888. Perhaps the most famous of all is the legend of Spook Hill, a spot within the cemetery grounds said to defy the laws of gravity. The area is near the graves of two young women who tragically died in a car accident. Local lore claims that if you park your vehicle in neutral at the base of the hill, it will slowly roll uphill, drawn by an unseen force toward their final resting place. The Museum of Brisbane has acknowledged the myths, noting that the cemetery's 'wild and wonderful tales have been a fixture of slumber party gossip for years.' A number of people came forward to share their own eerie experiences at Toowong Cemetery, with some saying they were so spooked they'll never return. 'Toowong Cemetery is eerie as hell. I have been there at night, it's a scary place,' one person wrote. Another added, 'When I was told the story of the vampire while at the cemetery, I saw a shadow.' Someone else said they had witnessed the 'Spook Hill' phenomenon. 'We used to go to the cemetery as teens. There is a place you can drive and put your vehicle in neutral, and it will roll up the hill. It is the freakiest feeling.' Others spoke about chilling moments during one of the cemetery's guided ghost tours, which are offered by local haunted tourism companies. 'I went on a tour a few years ago, walked a bit down the path by myself (at night), and could hear footsteps directly behind me. I started recording behind me to make sure it wasn't a person,' one person shared. Officially opened in 1875, the cemetery is now heritage-listed and closed to new burials. It remains the final resting place of many prominent colonial-era figures and, according to urban legends, a number of restless spirits.

Shocking moment stabbing victim pleads for help on quiet Australian street: 'I'm going to die'
Confronting neighbourhood CCTV footage has captured the moment a man ran door-to-door down a quiet street, begging for help after he was stabbed in the back. Neighbours in Adelaide 's inner-north suburb of Devon Park were woken just after 4am on Monday by a man yelling for help. One doorbell camera from a home on Bedford Avenue captured the man running with his pants around his ankles, clutching at his back as blood poured from his leg. 'I'm going to die, I'm going to die,' the man screamed. In other CCTV footage, the man was heard yelling for someone to 'call an ambulance' as he hobbled down the street. Eventually, a number of residents who heard his desperate pleas for help left their homes to assist the injured man. The residents immediately called Triple-0 and tried to stop the bleeding while they waited for emergency services to arrive. When police arrived at the scene at 4:30am, they found the 28-year-old with multiple stab wounds to his leg, chest, and back. The man was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in serious condition; however, police confirmed his injuries were not life-threatening. Detective Acting Chief Inspector Jeff Lang said on Monday that the man owed his life to the neighbourhood's Good Samaritans. 'Luckily he came to an address where somebody was willing to help. If that didn't occur, then this could have been a very different press conference,' Mr Lang said. Mr Lang said police did not know what type of weapon was used but believed it was 'some kind of bladed weapon'. He added that the 28-year-old was known to police, with investigators believing the stabbing was a targeted attack. 'The behaviour in this attack indicates to police that those involved are known to each other,' Mr Lang said. 'The community should be reassured that we believe this is an isolated incident. 'I want to reassure the community that while this type of attack is serious, we will respond rapidly and appropriately to ensure those involved are placed before the court.' Neighbour Raymond Griffiths explained that he heard the commotion, which was out of character for the area. 'It's normally a quiet area, not much happens here but last night it was different, so one can only hope he's all right,' Mr Griffiths told The Advertiser. 'Yes it's upsetting anyone's been stabbed. I mean that's upsetting enough but these things are going on all the time now.' The stabbing is believed to have occurred in front of a Devon Park business before the 28-year-old walked 200metres into a nearby neighbourhood for help. Police established two crime scenes, with forensic officers seen examining the evidence on Monday. Detectives closed off a large section of Belford Avenue between Bolingbrook and Berwick roads. Parts of Bolingbrook Avenue and Alexander Avenue were also cordoned off as police traced a long blood trail to determine the exact location of the alleged attack. A pool of blood was also seen at the front doorstep of the home where the man sought help. Anyone with information, dashcam or CCTV footage in the vicinity of Devon Park at 4am on Monday is being urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

BREAKING NEWS Chilling development after two people were tortured, stuffed alive into a toolbox and dumped in a lagoon near Brisbane
Three men found guilty of the 'horrific' murder of two people who drowned in a toolbox have been given a 30-year life sentence. Cory Breton, 28, and Iuliana Triscaru, 31, were killed at Kingston in Logan, south of Brisbane, on January 24, 2016. The pair had been beaten, stabbed and choked before they were stuffed into a two-metre-long toolbox. Stou Daniels, Davy Malu Junior Taiao and Trent Michael Thrupp were found guilty of the pair's murder for a second time following a retrial. Justice Glenn Martin said they had engaged in 'appalling conduct' when he sentenced the trio in the Queensland Supreme Court on Thursday. 'It is difficult to imagine the immense terror they felt in the hours leading up to their deaths,' he said. Justice Martin accepted crown prosecutor Nathan Crane's submission that the three defendants should serve 30 years instead of the mandatory 20-year minimum. All three defendants have already spent more than nine years in custody, which was recognised as time served. Mr Breton's partner, Miranda Parkinson, said in her victim impact statement that she knew he was dead as soon as she got a call from detectives asking to visit their home. 'I lost any hope I had held onto after 17 painstaking days that Cory was missing,' she said. 'The man that I loved, that I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with, no longer exists.' Mr Breton's sister Tamara Kazim-Breton told the defendants about the person they 'threw away so easily like they were nothing'. 'Your actions didn't just take Cory, you tore us apart', she said. 'None of us living decent lives should be forced to relive this horror.' Ms Triscaru's mother and family members said in a joint victim impact statement that she was cherished as the heart of the family. 'Her senseless killing has left wounds that continue to bleed,' the family members said. A jury returned its verdict on June 20 after deliberating for more than two days. The trio faced a retrial in Brisbane after the Court of Appeal set aside murder convictions in July 2024. Mr Breton and Ms Triscaru had been lured to a Kingston unit before being attacked by a group of men over a drug-dealing dispute. The men drank whiskey and played video games for hours after torturing the pair and forcing them into the toolbox. The terrified pair made so much noise as the container was being moved, music from an awaiting ute was turned up in a bid to conceal it. Thrupp either threw the toolbox, weighed down by concrete, into nearby Scrubby Creek or was present when it happened, Mr Crane told the jury. Daniels and Taiao were also liable for murder by forcing the victims into the toolbox hours before their deaths, he said. Police divers found the bodies locked in the toolbox submerged in the lagoon two weeks later.
