He also unveiled a statue of tribal icon Bhagwan Birsa Munda on the occasion, an official release said.
The Miyawaki method, invented by a Japanese botanist, involves planting a variety of native trees and shrubs close together to mimic a natural forest system.
The urban forest has been developed over 4,464 square meters at a cost of Rs 55 lakh under the public-private partnership model, and houses some 8,000 indigenous trees including teak, khair (Cutch tree), bamboo, siris (Albizia lebbeck), sissu (Dalbergia sissoo) and arjun (Terminalia arjuna).
It also includes a 250-meter walkway.
To transform Ahmedabad into a green city, the municipal corporation has launched the campaign `Mission Four Million Trees 2025" with a target of planting 40 lakh trees, and 27,11,443 trees have been planted so far, the release said.
With 66.77 per cent of the target achieved, the AMC is set to complete the remaining plantation work in the coming days, it added.
The corporation has so far developed 198 `oxygen parks' or urban forests using the Miyawaki method and dense plantation techniques.
Ahmedabad has a total of 310 public gardens. The Garden Department has planted more than one crore trees across the city in the last six years, said the release. PTI PJT KRK

The project, the mayor and the students involved in the initiative have been included in the London-based World Book of Records, according to Rajendran's Facebook post. She said that all the 6,000 students who participated in the project would receive certificates in their names from the World Book of Records. Rajendran received the certificate for 'organising Seed Ball Movement aimed at promoting reforestation, biodiversity and community-based environmental action by dispersing four lakh seed balls with the participation of 6,000 students in three hours on August 9, 2025 at Putharikandam Maithanam, Thiruvananthapuram". She shared a photo of the certificate along with her Facebook post in which she also mentioned that the Thiruvananthapuram corporation had received the UN Habitat Global Award for sustainable development activities last year. CBSE To Introduce Open Book Assessment For Class 9 From 2026-27 Session
Last Updated: CBSE will start open-book assessments for Class 9 from 2026-27, per NCFSE 2023 and NEP 2020, aiming to shift from rote memorisation to competency-based learning. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has approved a proposal to introduce open-book assessments (OBAs) for Class 9 students starting from the 2026-27 academic session. The decision, approved by the board's Governing Body in June, is in line with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE) 2023 and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aim to shift the focus from rote memorisation to competency-based learning. What's In the New System? Under the new system, OBAs will be integrated into the three pen-paper assessments conducted each term, covering core subjects such as Language, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science. Students can refer to textbooks, class notes, and approved resources during the assessments. The Pilot Study The move is based on a pilot study that excluded additional reading materials and assessed cross-cutting themes from the syllabus. The idea was first reviewed by the CBSE curriculum committee in November 2023 and received approval later that year. To assess its feasibility, the board conducted a pilot project in select schools. Student scores ranged from 12 per cent to 47 per cent, revealing 'challenges in effectively utilising resources and grasping interdisciplinary concepts." The study showed that teachers are open to supporting such assessments. 'Despite these hurdles, teachers expressed optimism about OBAs (open-book assessments), noting their potential to foster critical thinking." CBSE To Develop Sample Papers To ensure quality, CBSE will develop standardised sample papers and provide structured guidance to help students navigate reference materials and apply knowledge contextually. The board expects the initiative to reduce exam stress, encourage real-world application of knowledge, and strengthen conceptual understanding. This is not the first time CBSE has experimented with this. Between 2014-15 and 2016-17, it introduced the Open Text-Based Assessment (OTBA) for Classes 9 and 11, which was later discontinued after mixed responses from students and educators. 404 sheep killed by train while fleeing wild animal attack
Ara: A flock of sheep fleeing an attack by wild jackals and stray dogs died after being struck by a train near Sikariya Halt, between Banahi and Bihiya railway stations in Bhojpur district. Our flock of around 600 sheep, belonging to seven shepherds from Bankat village under Bihiya police station, was tethered in an agricultural field. When heavy rain began, wild jackals and stray dogs attacked. Frightened, the sheep bolted towards the nearby railway track. More than 400 were run over by a speeding train, and several others were injured," said shepherd Bharat Pal, speaking alongside six other affected herders. The shepherds estimated each sheep's value at around Rs 8,000, meaning the loss from the death of 404 animals was substantial. Sheep rearing is their sole source of income. Shahpur MLA Rahul Tiwari visited Bankat village, promising to seek compensation for the affected families and offering them some financial assistance. A govt veterinary doctor from Bihiya treated several injured sheep on Saturday morning and carried out a post-mortem on one. A team from Ara railway police also visited the site and began an investigation.
