No permanent faculty & VC affect work in Khallikote univ
Currently, guest faculty run the show. With no permanent faculty, research could not be started in the university.
The century-old Khallikote Autonomous College was upgraded into a cluster university on May 30, 2015, by taking five colleges from Berhampur University. Later, it was converted into Khallikote Research Intensive University. The govt again renamed it as Khallikote University. Finally, it was declared Khallikote Unitary University on Aug 1, 2021, without having any affiliated colleges.
"Even the University Grants Commission (UGC) got confused after finding several forms and names of a university. It could not issue recognition under section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956 for quite some time. Finally, it got this recognition in August last year after submission of proper documents. But it is the most neglected university of the state," said a university official.
The tenure of Prafulla Kumar Mohanty, former VC of KUU, ended on Jan 30, 2024.

Berhampur University vice-chancellor Geetanjali Dash was appointed as in-charge of this unitary university.
Mohanty told TOI that a land patch given for KUU's campus was surrendered to the govt. "Now the university is functioning from the erstwhile Khallikote Autonomous College campus. The existing campus does not have enough space for expansion. If the govt hands over the OSRTC depot of around two acres beside the college, it will immensely help KUU.
We wrote letters to the govt about this, but nothing materialised," he added.
He said an acute shortage of non-teaching staff is another problem of the university. "Research is a non-starter here due to lack of permanent teaching staff. It is relying entirely on guest faculty members and teachers from the erstwhile Khallikote Autonomous College. Infrastructure inadequacy should be resolved too," he added.
Dash said the university needs to get recognition under section 12 (B) of the UGC Act to receive central assistance.
"But there is a problem in this. This university has to get NAAC accreditation to apply for this recognition. Before we submitted the proposal, the NAAC closed its portal for receiving applications," she added.
She said a big PG hostel having 28 rooms is in a dilapidated condition. Its roof and walls have cracks. "We have taken a decision not to allow any student to stay in the hostel from this academic year. We have some old buildings, and they need renovation," she added.
