Apple's Foundation Sets Season 3 Release Date After 2-Year Hiatus — Plus, Watch a New Teaser
After nearly two years off the air and a number of behind-the-scenes snags, Foundation will be back at last this summer.
The sci-fi epic will return to Apple TV+ for its third season on Friday, July 11, the streamer announced Wednesday. The 10-episode season will roll out weekly on Fridays through Sept. 12; you can watch a teaser for the new installments above.

Foundation, which last dropped a fresh episode back in September 2023, follows a band of exiles on their journey to save humanity and rebuild civilization amid the fall of the Galactic Empire. According to the official synopsis, Season 3 picks up 152 years after the events of the sophomore finale, and The Foundation has become 'increasingly established' while the Cleonic Dynasty's Empire has dwindled.

'As both of these galactic powers forge an uneasy alliance, a threat to the entire galaxy appears in the fearsome form of a warlord known as The Mule (now played by Game of Thrones alum Pilou Asbæk), whose sights are set on ruling the universe by use of physical and military force, as well as mind control,' the logline continues. 'It's anyone's guess who will win, who will lose, who will live and who will die as Hari Seldon, Gaal Dornick, the Cleons and Demerzel play a potentially deadly game of intergalactic chess.'
Foundation initially scored a Season 3 renewal at Apple less than three months after Season 2 ended, but the series hit several roadblocks during Season 3 production. Filming was first paused due to the dual Hollywood strikes in 2023, then was delayed a second time due to 'issues with budgeting and physical production,' per our sister site Deadline. Additionally, series co-creator David S. Goyer stepped back from his duties as showrunner during the hiatus, with executive producer Bill Bost overseeing production instead; Goyer remained creatively involved, though, exec-producing Season 3 and contributing scripts.

'House of the Dragon' season 3 will go experimental with a concept episode
Westeros fans are already excited about the promise of "House of the Dragon" season 3, the next installment of the "Game of Thrones" prequel series. Alas, we still don't have a release date (we'll keep you posted the second we hear!), but news of filming kicking off in England and new actors joining the cast should be enough to hold George R. R. Martin stans over for awhile. Still, we're chomping at the bit until Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy), Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) and the rest of our favorite "House of the Dragon" characters are back on screen. That's especially so now that showrunner Ryan Condal has teased a special high-concept episode to come in the new season. While speaking to Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the showrunner revealed that one episode of the third season will be a more "conceptual" and "character-driven" installment than "House of the Dragon" fans have seen from the HBO fantasy series so far. 'We got to have a little fun this season, and there's a conceptual episode that I'm really excited about that [Sara Hess] wrote, and that's all I'm gonna say about it," Condal shared during the podcast appearance. "It isn't in the traditional vernacular of what we have laid out. It's very character-driven, I think it's really great and I'm really excited to see it rendered.' Exactly which character's journey will be on the receiving end of this more experimental narrative style in the new episodes is so far unknown. Condal played coy when it came to naming names, as well as how that treatment will play out visually onscreen. But it will be interesting getting a more introspective and emotional look into a character's mindset, especially as the turmoil of a major war rages around them. Outside of the more focused, interior look into the personalities of "House of the Dragon," the third season is set to go bigger and better with its storylines. In a previous interview with Gold Derby, Condal said: "Season 2 is huge. Season 3 is huger, in many ways. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. "There are, by my quick count on stage, four major events from the book that we get to adapt and realize in three dimensions in this season. That's really exciting on a scope-and-scale perspective, and I think it's the thing the show does really well." EMERY KNOWS |Early in the episode, Emery lets Joe know that he's very aware of the youngest Stabler brother's contact with Elliot. So he makes sure Joe is present when Emery has his thug kill a man who reneged on a deal. The unspoken message: Fear my wrath. On Emery's orders, Joe trashes the place afterward, but makes sure to leave a little clue for his brother before he goes. Det. McKenna is first on the scene and finds the foil-wrapped packet of drugs Joe placed at the scene. While McKenna doesn't know the ins and out of Joe's involvement, he knows enough to call Elliot to let him know what they found. The substance is something brand new, and when Det. Tanner gets wind that McKenna gave Stabler a heads-up, she wants to know why. Oh, and she also informs him that they're now working the case together. Stabler makes reference to his confidential informant being on the inside of whatever's going down, but when she presses him for more information, he's squirrelly. Eventually he lets her know that his CI is his brother, and I'm grateful for her very important reminder that THIS IS A TERRIBLE IDEA. Law & Order: SVU Season 27: Everything We Know So Far View List WHO'S USING WHOM? | Joe calls Elliot to give him a heads-up about a big drug deal that's about to go down, but after they get off the phone, we see that Emery is forcing Joe to feed his brother misinformation. There is, indeed, a drug operation at the address Joe gives Elliot. But when the New York Police Department rolls in to shut it all down, it's not quite the huge deal Joe implied. Tanner quickly realizes that Emery used them to take out his biggest competition in selling the new drug, and as much as Elliot doesn't want to admit it, it seems like his brother is playing him. 'COME HOME' | Meanwhile, Randall finds out that Joe called Elliot — thanks, Kathleen — and storms down to the office to yell that he's having premonitions that something bad is going to happen to their little brother. Elliot lets him know that Joe is back in town, and tasks him with telling Joe to call Elliot the next time he rings Bernie's cell. Randall does as instructed, which leads to Elliot and Joe having a rooftop meet-up. Joe gives El the location where Emery is going to seal a gigantic drug deal the next day. El gives Joe a medallion — likely the same one Bunny gave him in the season premiere, no? — and says that Bernie wanted him to have it. Joe desperately wants his mother to know he's clean, but Elliot reassures him that she never knew he was using heroin in the first place. They hug before they part, with Elliot telling his brother, 'Come home.' GOODBYE, JOE | Thing is, Joe lied to Elliot to keep the cops away from where the deal is actually going down, in a whole different borough. But ANOTHER thing is, Elliot is a lot smarter than his Guy Fieri-haired sibling. And when the cops creep in with a caravan of backup, Emery figures out that Joe's new medallion has a tracker on the back of it. An incensed Emery, Joe and Emery's thug make a run for it; Elliot is desperately searching the warehouse when he gets a call from Emery. The rich Brit, who has a gun on Joe, offers a deal: 'Remove the APB on me,' which will allow him to leave town unencumbered, 'or he dies.' Stabler stammers that he'll work on the situation, but as a helicopter circles overhead, it's too late. Emery hangs up, and Stabler hears a gunshot in the vicinity soon after. He runs to find Emery gone and Joe bleeding out from a gunshot wound to the chest. 'I mailed it,' the younger Stabler gasps, blood trickling from his lips, as Elliot pulls him close and begs him to stick around because 'Mama's been waiting for you.' But things are going downhill very quickly. 'Tell her I was clean,' Joe whispers, then he's gone. Elliot puts his face very close to his little brother's and sobs. 'LET'S GO FOR A RIDE' | Later, Stabler breaks down again when another officer asks if he moved the body. 'I held him,' Elliot barely gets out, crying as he looks down at Joe's blood on his hands. Tanner arrives and sits with him, telling him to go be with his family. We watch (but do not hear) as a montage shows him telling Randall and Kathleen. (But not Eli and Becky? Or BERNIE?) Then Stabler pulls his car into an alley where McKenna is waiting for him… with Emery's thug tied up in the trunk. 'I was going to book him, but then I heard about your brother. So, we can take him in, or we can go for a ride,' McKenna says. He's barely done speaking when Stabler makes his choice: 'Let's go for a ride.' Now it's your turn. Will you miss Joe? Exclusive: Sophie Turner on Her Travel Style: ‘I Look Like Hannibal Lecter on the Plane'
Sophie Turner's breakout role as Sansa Stark on the hit fantasy series Game of Thrones made the British actress a household name. And while the HBO show is still binge-worthy years after its finale, Turner is watching something a little lighter when she's in flight. 'If I'm not sleeping, any Real Housewives —I'm binging the whole way. You have to watch it!' she said, listing the Salt Lake City franchise as her favorite, though she's also partial to Potomac and Beverly Hills. Turner sat down with Travel + Leisure to talk about her other travel essentials (beyond the Real Housewives ), her jet lag hacks, and her favorite filming location. Though the Emmy-winning Game of Thrones ended in 2019 after eight globe-trotting seasons, Turner's love of shooting in beautiful, far-flung locations has endured. She has gone on to star in many films, including "X-Men: Dark Phoenix" (2019) and "The Dreadful" (2024), requiring her to travel all over the world. For Turner, one location still stands out: Iceland (one of many notable Game of Thrones filming locations). 'I just found Iceland absolutely astonishingly beautiful, like the landscape with northern lights. It's also that I shot there in the summer when there's something like 22 hours of light, and it was a very bizarre experience. It was just beautiful.' As for other dream filming locations, she would love to work on something in Norway. 'I've never been to Norway, and I would just love to go there. I just think it looks beautiful.' Even though I go to sleep immediately, I need something to rest my head on, if it's not a recliner. Go-to plane uniform? It doesn't matter, just comfy. Hoodie and sweatpants. There is a brand that I've been wearing recently called Akimbo Club. What's an item you can't travel without? Compression socks. Even when you're not pregnant, they really do help. Oh, sometimes I bring face masks, like chin masks and lip masks. I look like Hannibal Lecter on the plane, but whatever. Ideal co-star to travel with? That would probably be the entire X-Men cast [which includes James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult]. We just had the best time flying all over the world on press tours. We had too much fun. Trip you want to take? I've been so lucky to travel to so many places, but I haven't ever gone to New Zealand, and I would love to go there. So, how does she survive an intense travel schedule often packed with long flights? Her moisturizer ("my Weleda Skin Food") and a dip in the closest body of water, she told T+L. 'Whether it's a bath, a pool, an ice bath, whatever it may be. I think it just calms my system down. It also really helps me with jet lag as well. I'm a Pisces, so I just need to be in water. It's like a rejuvenation. It feeds my soul.' For hotel pools, she recommends the Corinthia Hotel in London, but she also loves swimming out in the open, like when she went to Egypt last year and hopped into her new favorite body of water. 'We were on the River Nile, and we all jumped off the boat [into the river], and I think that was probably my favorite.' Another travel must for Turner? Immediately ordering room service when she checks into her hotel room. 'Listen, my go-to order will always be spaghetti with butter and cheese. Kids food, man, it's the best!' the mother of two said with a laugh. Though she orders off the children's menu, she does the very adult thing of immediately unpacking after her room service meal—both routines help with a sense of normalcy. Her final travel staple? A Hugo spritz. 'It absolutely is the spirit of travel,' Turner said. She is such a fan of the cocktail that she has partnered with St-Germain for the second year in a row on a new campaign called 'Sip Into Something Fresher.' 'I can have it anywhere, any time of day. It could be morning, evening, whatever. There's no bounds on where I drink it,' she said, noting she would love airlines to start making this drink part of their cocktail programs. The campaign touts the St-Germain Hugo spritz as the official cocktail of summer, and the brand will have activations in St. Tropez and Cannes. The South of France holds a special place in Turner's heart. 'I've spent a lot of time there. Actually, I got married there [to ex-husband Joe Jonas]. I've got a lot of great memories there, and I really love it. I love the landscape, I love the people, I love the food, I love the drink. I just think it's such a romantic, beautiful, idyllic place.'
